When I was in high school, I watched a kid burn up 3 brand new starters on a 318 in his Cuda. I finally couldn't take it anymore, went to looking and he had it 180° out of time. He'd just dropped it in because it only had 40k on it when the car it came from got rolled, and his 318 that he took out had the blues. I kept telling him, you can't run a Chrysler starter that long, he was ready to put the old engine back in.

Good ol' 318, mom's 68 Barracuda had that motor. She bought it new, after she passed it came to me, I drove it for another 10 years so 30 years on the road with no motor problems ever. It was her daily driver to school and back and the winters in Ohio did take an eventual toll on the frame. Sold it to a guy who wanted to take it back to factory condition. Probably still runnin' somewhere.

I concur using starting fluid on engines with little compression. Starting fluid has more oomph and that helps getting the engine to crank over faster until it takes off. Then I use gasoline. My MO. The only thing I ever hurt with starting fluid was a V4 Evenrude that had set. One of the sparkplugs popped out. The owner just JB Welded it right back in and since it had run ee switched over to gas. Good Video Dustin. Thank you. "That's Entertainment." ben/ michigan
