That sticker on the speedo that says Car Kit? Yeah, in California, they actually demanded a retrofit to meet emission by way of reducing timing advance. The expensive kit (not this one) actually had a device that either allowed or did not allow timing advance based on engine temperature. This one? The Car Kt consisted of a blister pack containing two rubber caps - one for the distributor and one for the carburetor...yes, they did tend to run hot and doggy...
Also, just watched an Uncle Tony video where he was discussing the one-year oddities of the ‘67 big block engines and that weird alternator bracket came up.
About the the ground in the dizzie. Yeah. Got a '69 440 with points. It's in a truck. Won't run without the points post grounded. Don't ask me. But that's the way it is. And the big block truck brake boosters are just small enough to clear. Small block truck boosters won't clear the big block valve cover. It's also the same booster that's used on early 1st gen Cummins.
Roight. I’m familiar with the different truck booster diameters. Yeah… thaaaat shouldn’t be like that. lol. The distributor grounds to the block, just like the starter does, so if the block isn’t grounded… you’ve got bigger problems.

Howd you get it to run so nice ? Ive been learning on this 87 D150 I just bought and was doing the same thing I saw in your vid and I can not get it to run to save my life 👎🏽 if you could help me , that would be awesome !
Not running at all? Or running badly? I have a video called “The Five Minute Fix” where I try to explain the steps that I take to get things like this running nicely. I also released a video on a 1965 Dart convertible yesterday in which I went over some of that again. I feel like I left some useful information out of the first video and am planning to do another Five Minute Fix video in the near future. If it is isn’t running at all, I have a video on classic Mopar ignition systems in which I explain how they work, and give some tips for things to check. But if that was a lean burn truck… get rid of the lean burn.
I do think that’s correct on a factory HP / four barrel engine in a ‘67. These do have a date stamping for 1970 so I know they don’t belong there. Haha.
I've always liked the 67 coronet's but for some strange reason there's plenty of them in my area, which is a good thing, theres a 67 RT right down the road from me, I know a guy not far away in the next county that has 3 67 RT's theres 2 67 500's around here and a 67 wagon! And seems like theres always one for sale around here. But 68 to 70's are extinct around here!
Same here actually. Not R/Ts but still. I wonder why that is. I’ve seen exactly two ‘68-9s in person I think. Well and a super bee or two. Lots of earlier cars.
Wonder how a ‘67 Coronet from Iowa found its way up to your area. Sad to see the Simpson’s emblem was removed. Been a long time since I’ve seen one of those.
@@DeadDodgeGarage No sir, but I recognized the car dealership badge that was on the driver’s side of the trunk early in the video. Haven’t seen one of those Simpson/Waterloo IA badges in forever. If the owner doesn’t want it, and it’s still at the shop, I’d love to display it in my garage. Childhood memories and such.
Ok, fine… it might have been the ground, once. The year was 1977… ok seriously, yes, it happens, but I say this because “it’s a ground” is the generic answer I often see to electrical questions that are easily answered by people who understand the circuits in question. It’s not at all helpful.
No I explained the problem. Lol. The wires were on the cap in the wrong place - and the jumper wire that was being used to power up the ignition was also bad. Two problems… that’s always fun!
The clues I’m seeing say earlier engine. Haven’t crawled under it yet, and now that I think of it, I never looked at the balancer to check for a weight.
Only the finest… the rubber gas line and plastic filter are pretty standard issue, but I do prefer them over the valve cover instead of the exhaust personally.
Who, me? They just congregate around me… specializing in Mopars for over a decade has built me a good reputation, and working at a Mopar only restoration shop helps. 🙂
They are a pain to work on with particularly autopilot. One of the spark plugs has to be taken out from underneath and another can only be loosened by one tooth at a time on a ratchet.
Gotta stop watching you,you keep showing me cars I had and let go. Oh well, can't keep them all. My 500 had the 318. Kidding about stopping, too entertaining and informative. 👍🍸
Everybody grabs a point file i could never find mine, snap on tool man (old time Mopar mechanic said) use a new dollar bill doesn't remove metal and cleans the contacts I can always find my wallet
@DeadDodgeGarage I lament the passing of quality points manufacturers. I have a 64 426 Polara 500 and haven't been able to buy decent looking pairs of points for the dual point distributor in forever. Blue Streaks from Standard used to be good,,, Echlin used to be good and anyone who ever opened a box of Sorensen points in the maroon and white box,,, those were works of art!!
…does it? Lol. I’m doing what I’ve always done - post videos of myself fixing and reviving cars with commentary, give semi useful information, and explain how junk works.
@@DeadDodgeGarage just cranks and cranks and cranks but I will defiantly check them out ! Thank you !
Love it.
Don't know if it changed after 67 but I had a 68 500 factory original from the original owner with the HP manifolds. Bought it for $500 in 1979
I do think that’s correct on a factory HP / four barrel engine in a ‘67.
@@DeadDodgeGarage Must be the same nation wide.👍
Did I see the emergency brake down to the floor whilst you were driving it?
Yes… I set it for safety while getting it started and forgot to release it. Apparently it doesn’t do much, as I never noticed any dragging.
@@DeadDodgeGarage lol
Wonder how a ‘67 Coronet from Iowa found its way up to your area. Sad to see the Simpson’s emblem was removed. Been a long time since I’ve seen one of those.
😮 You know this car?
@@DeadDodgeGarage No sir, but I recognized the car dealership badge that was on the driver’s side of the trunk early in the video. Haven’t seen one of those Simpson/Waterloo IA badges in forever. If the owner doesn’t want it, and it’s still at the shop, I’d love to display it in my garage. Childhood memories and such.
Sweet
I have, on occasion, found that it was indeed the ground.
Ok, fine… it might have been the ground, once. The year was 1977… ok seriously, yes, it happens, but I say this because “it’s a ground” is the generic answer I often see to electrical questions that are easily answered by people who understand the circuits in question. It’s not at all helpful.
That thing just looks mean standing still
Wait a minute! You conveniently skipped over that part where you found the problem!
No I explained the problem. Lol. The wires were on the cap in the wrong place - and the jumper wire that was being used to power up the ignition was also bad. Two problems… that’s always fun!
Looks like grandpas axe this one.
Good project car. Im guessing that is a 400 under the hood.
The clues I’m seeing say earlier engine. Haven’t crawled under it yet, and now that I think of it, I never looked at the balancer to check for a weight.
This is what happens when a brand X guy ruins a Mopar.
Love the rubber gas line and rhe plastic filter over the hp exhaust manifold.
Only the finest… the rubber gas line and plastic filter are pretty standard issue, but I do prefer them over the valve cover instead of the exhaust personally.

Wear do he get those wonderful toys?
Who, me? They just congregate around me… specializing in Mopars for over a decade has built me a good reputation, and working at a Mopar only restoration shop helps. 🙂
Super cool car but that fuel line needs to be rerouted it's in danger of spraying on exhaust manifold when it breaksJust a suggestion🙃
There are *a lot* of things that need to be addressed here.
On the first 500, it looks like the carbon button in the center of distributor cap is damaged. It appears to be flat and pitted. 🤔
Yes, it is. That will definitely be replaced as we get into the car.
Yeah, where/how do you keep finding all these old Mopars? Lol😅
They just come to me 🙂
A pair of channel locks gets rid of locking gas caps
Interesting. I’ve removed them in several creative ways over the years.
That thing is oil pressure sending unit for the gauge

Don't ya just hate it when folks get in the wireing and ripe it to hell.
And think there mechanics also.
But a cool Mopar .
I sure do… that’s ok. One of my favorite and most satisfying things in this line of work is ripping shit like that out and fixing it. Haha.
Big blocks aren’t bad in a c body if you don’t have autopilot and auto temp.
Are they bad if you do? How so?
They are a pain to work on with particularly autopilot. One of the spark plugs has to be taken out from underneath and another can only be loosened by one tooth at a time on a ratchet.
Needs a 454.
What an intriguing world view.
Gotta stop watching you,you keep showing me cars I had and let go. Oh well, can't keep them all. My 500 had the 318. Kidding about stopping, too entertaining and informative. 👍🍸
Yeah. I can’t keep them all either. Nowhere near… but I’ll do my bestest

Real R/T?
Negative - real 500.
Unless I am mistaken, R/T would have been coded WS23.
Back in the day I had a ‘67 R/T. Great car as long as the motor didn’t blow. Went through two of them between 1969 and 1972.
Everybody grabs a point file i could never find mine, snap on tool man (old time Mopar mechanic said) use a new dollar bill doesn't remove metal and cleans the contacts I can always find my wallet
That’s a good one! I usually just scrape them with a flathead, but the file was handy.
Front seats are not correct they look to be early 70s
They’re not even Mopar seats. I feel like I mentioned that? But may not have said much about them.
Seems like your running out of material
…does it? Lol. I’m doing what I’ve always done - post videos of myself fixing and reviving cars with commentary, give semi useful information, and explain how junk works. As long as there are broken Mopars, I’ll have material. I also have a huge list of ideas that I haven’t even started on because there are so many projects like this and people really like them. It’s ok if you get bored of it.
