    Check out texas toasts video. They use handles on their templates to give you total control over the piece while keeping your hands away from that large cutter.
    Congrats on the tool.

    For this tool would be a good idea to do a thicker template and add two handles on top, screwed from the lower face of the template to avoid having the fingers near the router bit.

    I have a Shopsmith machine. It has the shaper option. Overhead or under table set up.
    Was considering getting a shaper head and table insert. In convinced now, Derek. My variable speed control will need tweaking, I have the limit screw set now.

      I've got a ShopSmith as well. But I'm on the fence about the shaper setup. Those things seem freaky. 😲

    I have one that I am currently restoring that is older than yours, it was given to me for free. The only thing is the table hole on mine only goes to 3 inches wide so I couldn't use larger bits, I also dont really have the room for it but couldn't resist a free tool

      I’ve used a harbor freight engine hoist 😂 ive got a 1940’s devilbiss 90 gallon air compressor where the motor weighs about 400 lbs alone. Aside from having a shop gantry crane it’s your best bet

    I have been running a shaper for many decades and your stock handling is scaring the hell out of me. Either build your jigs with handles or at the very least use handled gripping pads. You might also consider a starting pin. Did not even finish the video.

      @@bigdguitars I understand that! You do have to build what sells. I do like your work and you have great insight. I build as well, not on youtube. I have only been doing it for about 4 years now. Been wanting to since I was a kid. I am not a master luthier by any means. I do like the Jack Daniels barrel builds!

    Nice machine. You got guts pushing that around with your hands like that. I'd make a template and put some handles on it.
    BTW I thought you said one time you have a CNC machine? So why use this? You going the Texas Toast route?

    • @LP5369GT
      @LP5369GT 2 года назад +1

      This is the one thing I hated about building guitar bodies and the main reason I don't do it anymore. You've got have a really good bit and router to do the sides and even then you can get tear out, and shapers are bad ass but scary as hell to use. Especially around those horns.

    • @SystematicMechanic
      @SystematicMechanic 2 года назад

      @@LP5369GT that's one of the reasons I switched to CNC router. I can only speak for myself but I really didn't like getting my hands that close to the bits. Also because I was terrible at it.
