- When people have a major milestone to celebrate, they choose sparkling wine to commemorate the moment. And when only the best will do, they choose Champagne. But why is that? Marc Supsic, DipWSET and WTSO partner wine expert explains!
Let’s talk about what makes Champagne the best and most famous sparkling wine in the world, the different types and styles available, and then we’ll talk about a few other high quality sparkling wines that are a great alternative to Champagne, including Prosecco, Crémant, and Cava.

I’d rather have a Cava than a Prosecco!! Just bought some less expensive Champagne 🍾 at the store yesterday and have them in the wine fridge to try some day!!
Us too! Thanks for watching!
While prosecco generally isn't very interesting, though cheap, Italy has something way more sophisticated to offer. And that is Franciacorta. What a wine. Forget about Cava, Creman and other Sekt wines, you can legitemately compare Franciacorta directly to Champagne and the outcome isn't always easily predictible. But it is also quite expensive, at times even more expensive then a champagne from the same league. So I usually prefer spending my eurocents on the latter.
@@barmalini Wow!! Definitely learned something new today!! Thanks 🙏
Very educational; as someone who does not know a lot about alcohol in general, I find these videos quite useful.
Thank you for watching, Daniella! Come check out our selection of wines at wtso.com and let us know if you have any questions.
Nice explanation of what each of the three varietals bring to the mix
Thanks for watching! Happy holidays, Nick.
Trader Joe's used to sell a nice bottle of German sekt at a low price.
Hi everyone! What's your favorite Sparkling wine? Is there one I didn't mention here? Let me know in the comments.
Hi there, just stumbled upon your vids.
Enjoyed your clear & succinct explanation of wines , & their nuances & their historical back stories. However, in this particular episode you omitted to mention English sparking wines that are increasingly thought superior to modern appellations of champagne. Hence, champagne producers are now purchasing land in southern England.
Thanks for the comment! We're actually covering an English Sparkling wine in our next video, so stay tuned for that; it's a great wine!
