Intermezzo is possibly my best read of 2024. I was very affected by it. In Ascension has moved to the top of my pile. Thanks for the reminder. What a good list, thought provoking and well considered.😊
Thank you Eric. I greatly appreciate your highlighting and summarizing Obama's favorites! I'm adding several to my 2025 TBR. Orbital seems especially appealing to me. Also, in general, I want to say Thank YOU for your always thoughtful videos.
I still want to read "In Ascension". A long while after it first came out, it was not available on Kindle. I gave up after a while, assuming that author did not favor that medium. This reminded me to check, and now it is :)
“…how we got to this point” indeed. I always enjoy your thoughtful and astute reviews. I’ve gone into “head-in-the-sand” mode since November, but once I’m ready to reengage I’ll be picking up Obama’s non-fiction recommendations to help me wrap my head around how we got here. Thank you, Eric.
I'm particularly interested in reading Stolen Pride, I've got Barbara KIngsolver's new non-fiction book about Appalachian women and their role in the minors strike, on order from my library, and I've just ordered this one after reading about it on here. Addiction and shame are both areas of my work that I have a keen interest in. I still haven't read in Ascension, and will order that one from the library when my TBR has gone down a bit, sounds like it would be a lovely contemplative read for the new year/ transition period. Thanks for another great list Eric! 😊
I don’t agree two….Intermezzo & Orbital….am interested in reading the others. Perhaps given the current landscape of the word, I had no patience for this Rooney book, I’ve really enjoyed her other books so who knows? Just finished OUR EVENINGS, which I loved. 🤷♀️
Stolen Pride is a depressing but accurate look at the rural reactionary psyche. I didn't care for The Anxious Generation, though. Haidt really comes off as a centrist Boomer and is fairly insufferable at points. A better thinker and writer could have done justice to the subject.
I miss having a president so thoughtful
❤
😭❤️
patriot is a terrific book. surprisingly positive
😂
Me too, I miss having a president who reads.
I think it’s important to read to expand your world view beyond your own limited experience bubble.

Thanks! Hope you enjoy In Ascension
In ascension moved me profoundly. My best read in 2024. I enjoyed your interview with Martin Macinnes.
Thanks! 💙
Interesting selection of books, Orbital and The Anxious Generation have been on my radar.
👍📚

Haven’t read them but I always enjoy hearing about them. Thanks.

Thank you! 📚💕
I loved In Ascension ❤
✨
Greatest President US ever had.
Hep according to the media, not according to results. No legacy and useless lectures
How ironic that you make a shallow and insubstantial comment like on a topic about books. It’s obvious you’ve barely read any books in your life.
In Ascension!😍

I stood in awe of Navalny
Thanks for the video. Obama's picks are always interesting. Merry Christmas and a fantastic 2025!
Happy Christmas to you! 🎄📚
Wow. A President who reads books. Some great choice. Orbital is splendid, as is In Ascension.
What are Big Micheal’s favourite?

I think Orbital was written beautifully.
I thought it was like a bittersweet eulogy to earth and its inhabitants.
Orbital is beautiful ,surprisingly calm .

What! A President who can read books? I remember him! From Australia, miss you, Sir.
I think obamas favourite book is play girl magazine
That’s a gross comment 😮
Who cares what Obama's top ten list is? Why is he important?
Because he’s a former world leader and avid reader. The question is who cares what you think?
@@rgb3071Yeah, Obama just looooves him some Sally Rooney. 😂
He was the sort of President the US so badly needs.
@@rgb3071Yeah, he just loooves him some Sally Rooney!
Because he was one of the best American presidents and one that Americans themselves didn't have any reason to be ashamed of.
