2007 Polaris Hawkeye carborator and ignition issues solved

- The new to me ATV was running rich and would foul a plug in about hour of riding, so I decided to rebuild the carborator. Well in the process of doing that I also found some issues with the ignition system. After fixing that it still didn't work. Finally today I got it running, and thought I would share what I learned.
My 06 Hawkeye sounds exactly like that when running.Even my 2015 sportsman 800 sounds a little like that,no where as bad,but a little like that...I am currently going through the exact same starting problems as all you guys below.Had the stock carb rebuilt, TWICE,& only got about a 1 day run time but with idle problems the whole time.It is a local ATV shop getting a valve job/check/service done to it.I may buy a new CDI as well & have them install it while they are there & everything is removed.
And as soon as I get it back & it's running good, I'M SELLING IT,DAMMIT!!!!

It's a crappy design. They should have recalled it.
Every one does the same , even my self ,this type of carb Is called Cv carb , if you don’t have Restriction at the intake side (filter) you won’t have enough vacuum to open slider so even the filter cover must be installed it is all calculated with filter and cover for proper vacuum and I think on top of the cover there is little knobs you remove to fine tune , hope it help other ,I’ll keep that in mind if I have spark issues thanks 👍
Yep, scooters have CV carbs as well, and people often buy a carb with cone style air filter and then they won't run...without the stock airbox, the carb would need much bigger jets to let the engine run.
When you address moving the horseshoe clip up or down on the shaft, which movement makes fuel more lean? Up or down?
Did it have air intakes right and left atop the carb ?
I adjusted the air mix screw- had to make a tool for it. The top jet I moved around until I got power back. Seems to run well enough now as opposed like total shit before.
Have you considered a dynojet kit? I’ve heard it really makes a difference on the Hawkeye
I’m having ignition issues I’ve done got all the right parts done what you said still no spark any ideas
Check that the spark plug cable is not faulty. I was working on it so much that mine actually failed, and I had to buy a new one.
Also pick up a spark plug tester (the one that goes inline and just shows a light when it sparks. That helped me a lot.

Update: I brought it to a shop and they are currently putting in a new CDI.
Having the same problem. After rebuild of the cleanest carb I've ever seen, it ran for almost a week. Mid range was kinda draggin.
Still running rich, and fouling the plug in about 1 hour. I decided to park it for the winter and try and adjust the carborator in the spring to see if that helps.
Let me know if you get it figured out.
I did the same. Into the shed for winter. Just took it out yesterday. Will see what happens this go round .
Polaris did noone a favor in this design.
I have a Hawkeye 300 that won't rev up. It will idle only sometimes when it gets warmed up, but then backfire through the carb when I give it throttle. Replaced the carb, set the valves and spark gap. Honestly at a loss, any help is appreciated.

Installed a new carburetor on mine but underneath the carburetor there’s a hose that i cant find where to put to connect it
Put a new CDI (I went OEM) and the atv runs like a top now.
How much does it cost to replace the cdi, got same problem with mine I got no spark, I just need to know if is worth to put any more money on it, went by polaris on Saturday and they told me the hawk eyes are discontinued know and parts are kind of hard to get
So what does it mean if u disconnect the black wire and it has spark
That the safety switch in the throttle housing on right hand grip is mis adjusted.
Worst atv of all time, thought it would be a easy to ride atv for the wife and kids with the fully automatic and 4wd but definitely was the worst purchase I've ever had
What kind of problems do you have with the ATV? how many miles has?
I agree. Same junk. Mine has ONLY 204 TOTAL MILES ON IT.

I've never seen anything go to sh!t without much use at all like the HawkEye. Basically it's their poorly designed problematic low end lemon. Shameful.
They say they will give me 1k for it in trade.
I think it was an embarrassment to Polaris.
My advice- get it running and get out of it.
No decent power, and nothing but trouble.
I realize some people have them that run fairly well- but my guess is that it won't be for long.
I'm a career E.O.D. man and it's really hard not to just set up a demolition shot with it and vaporize it !😡
