    This was genius marketing on the part of Ferrari. The Testerossa instantly became the rival of the Countach for premiere supercar.

      First we shall file a Trademark infringement lawsuit for using Daytona replicas. Then well shall give them our brand new Testerossa to use instead. And to make sure they never do it again well require that the Daytona is blown up for all to see

      Ferrari never cooperated hence the replica Daytona. The testarossa was not provided for by Ferrari, so no brilliant marketing here. Not from Ferrari anyway.

    I watched Miami Vice from 1984 to 1989 every Friday night and I will tell you: When the Black Daytona got blown up, I was actually pissed off! That car made the show! So in Season 3 when Crockett got the White Testarossa, it took a while for me to get used to it. The reason why the Daytona was destroyed was because it wasn't a real 365 GTS/4 Daytona. Ferrari threatened to sue the show for copyright infringement if they didn't stop using a Ferrari replica (A bunch of BS if you ask me) It was actually a C3 Corvette made to look like a Daytona. So they offered to supply the show with a REAL Ferrari only if the fake one was destroyed. And that is why that God damn Jeff Fahey blew my beloved Black Daytona to pieces with that Stinger Missile!! :-) Miami Vice is hands down one of the best crime/drama shows ever created.

      Absolutely true - The Testarossa was a replacement for the BB Boxer V12 and the purists didn't like the new vision of Pinninfarina with the multiple side strakes. Yet, that white Ferrari in Miami on that show showcased the car in where it should have been seen.

    • @Windupchronic
      @Windupchronic 6 лет назад +27

      Olmos tells a good story about that. It's a long story about the first day shooting in Castillo's office. Olmos had creative control over his character, per his contract. He thought Castillo would have the door closed in that situation. He's new, doesn't know anybody, the last guy in the job was killed. He's not going to keep the door open. Johnson gets pissed. Olmos tries to explain to him his reasons, that it's based on character and has nothing to do with the two of them, but Johnson's not having it. He storms off the set for two hours, keeping the cast and crew waiting. Finally, Johnson returns to the set, they start the scene. Johnson knocks on the door, and then immediately, before Olmos can respond, throws open the door and slams it into a cabinet. They do the entire scene, and not once does Olmos look up at him. He just stares off into the distance.
      For ten episodes, Olmos did all his scenes like that, not looking at Johnson.
      Thing is, Olmos is a very serious actor who puts a great deal of thought into every character he plays. He refused to accept the part, no matter how much money they offered him, until he had creative control, and a non-exclusive contract so he could work on other projects, like Stand and Deliver. I don't think Johnson knew how to work with someone like that, who was taking the work that seriously.

    Actually 2 Testarossa’s were used in the series and were originally black. However, black didn’t look good during the night shots so they painted them white. One is up for display somewhere in Miami and the other one was owned by a guy in The Netherlands who recently sold it (completely restored) to someone in the US for 1.5 million dollars. This Testarossa is a ‘Monospecchio’ with only 1 mirror halfway the a-pillar.

      How about the fact that they were supposedly driving a Ferrari (in the previous case the Daytona Spyder)- a classic, limited production model- every day, using it on high-speed chases as well as just rolling around? Imagine the maintenance bill or the mileage if the Daytona was real? It would bankrupt the department- belt services, oil changes, etc. no to mention ruin the car.

    J'ai enfin eu l'occasion de regarder cette série, j'y songeais depuis des années. Et je l'ai adorée, sans doute l'une de mes préférées.
    J'attendais en particulier l'arrivée de cette fameuse Testarossa qui dans la mémoire collective semble être LA voiture de miami vice alors qu'au final je trouve la fausse daytona bien au dessus.
    Déjà c'est un cabriolet, pour moi c'est bien plus sexy et cool, notamment à miami, de plus son style est bien plus intemporel que la testarossa ancrée dans les années 80.
    Ensuite le noir je trouvais ça parfait, les scènes de nuit étaient superbes avec elle, je me demande ce qu'aurait donné la testarossa si ils l'avaient gardée en noir, comme dans l'épisode précédent sa remise, cela aurait sans doute été mieux.
    La daytona à eu aussi bien plus de scènes mémorables, le pilote avec in the air tonight, la scène de nuit avec dire straits, la poursuite finale de "little miss dangerous". Bref la daytona c'est les saisons 1 et 2 qui sont des classiques. La saison 3 avec la testarossa était encore très bonne, même si on commençait à perde l'esprit de la série, notamment au niveau des costumes. Les saisons 4 et 5 étant très moyennes avec quelques épisodes horribles.
    Et pour finir, on voyait beaucoup moins la différence entre les différentes répliques de daytona pour les cascades, alors que la testarossa c'est une catastrophe, proportions différentes, pare-chocs manquants... On a vraiment perdu en qualité à ce niveau...
    Bref pour moi fausse Daytona >>> Vraie testarossa

      Not until Crockett marries Sheena Easton. Or Trudy and the aliens. In Season 3, they still had some great episodes left in them. But the shark was eventually jumped in the Testarossa. The fugazi Daytona went out on top.
