NativeNewMexican it is his voice, simply "warped" or slightly changed to make a different sound in the back ground of his normal singing voice for the use of sound effect. Warping ones voice and looping it in the background doesn't change the fact that the initial sound IS his voice
So many people saying it’s unfair because he gets to bring up his own equipment. Ugh! How is it unfair? The other contestants don’t even play their own instrumental; the band does it, so 50% of their performance is not them; whereas Sam plays his own music so he is active 100% in his performance. The other contestants can bring up their own instruments and play themselves, but they don’t because they rather take advantage of the band to do it for them.
@@matthewallred2166 George kept suggesting he was not right for the show and it was unfair to the other contestants. I dunno, all the other singers get a band to play why can’t he be his own accompaniment?

Well, Kelly was his coach throughout the competition. She coached him and oversaw his rehearsals personally before any of his live performances. So, she already knows how the performance is going to look like such as the beat and the melody he'll use during his performance also the timing of certain parts of his performance like when he'll sing high, when he'll sing low, when he's going to play each sounds in loop, when he'll do this and that throughout the performance.
Sam is absolutely amazing. There’s similarities between him and my boi MB14, but Sam definitely focused a bit more on the loopstation track than using his pure singing talent to impress the coaches. I expect that in the next round or the round after that, he will have to perform a song without the loopstation. He needs to show to Boy George and the audience that he is a talented singer as well, and can’t be categorized as a DJ instead. Sam deserves to be here, and he just needs to showcase more of it.
I think no matter what happens he's going to have a brilliant future. I don't even think the voice here in the States has ever had a contestant like this.
That's no doubt because The Voice is supposed to be about actual vocalists, not so much about performers who use lots of technical 'wizardry' to perform and who barely actually sing during their performances! The guy is definitely good at what he does but is he actually a great vocalist and better than the other contestants who do actually sing and don't have to rely on lots of equipment to make their performances stand out? They really need to show off his singing more. He's forcing himself to condense a 5-8 minute routine into less than a minute and a half long music clip. No wonder people are so upset, you don't even get to really hear him sing. I mean he was only singing, in the classical saying words to a rhythm, for about 25 seconds of standard singing and 50 seconds of vocal looping. That ratio needs to be flipped if people are going to get to hear you really sing. Then as you get more time you can show everyone the whole package. They've heard what you can do while looping, now people need to hear you sing. ( By the way, if you're on the fence about Sam or want to hear what his real voice sounds like go here. Anyway, this link starts the song a second or two before he starts singing, check it out. ruclips.net/video/8OoqUxjtuMA/видео.htmlm29s )
I agree. He needs to show more of his vocal talents as well as his looping, etc. What he does is great but the show's not called The Voice for nothing. There should almost be a different category of show for what he does. I could see the other contestants looking so nervous because he was taking everything over but I bet vocally they probably outshone him.
Ah, I think you missed something in my comment. I want to show people his singing, not that he can't sing. That box doesn't help with is pitch, tone, or volume when he's singing and it doesn't help make the loops sound any better when he's done. Singing wise he's freaking amazing and is just as good as the other contestants. But you're right, this is called The Voice and not The Singer so I suppose he doesn't actually have to sing at all now that I think about it.
Every time Sam sings and produces that unique sound I get goosebumps. It's better than anything any of any countries Voices has produced and should be the winner. His career has now BEGUN! If people doing know him and his sound soon, they will very shortly. A genius in the making! Amanda from the u.k
And everything he is doing is created with his voice....he's just using a loop pedal to be a one man show where as the rest of them have a band and backing tracks he creates his own with his voice...
Jenbug0402 There’s nothing wrong with the fact that he makes his own music but he focuses way to much on it and only sings a couple of lines. He should focus more on singing as the show is about singing.
Woah Bro the show is about the voice as the judges have said he has changed the game. If it wasn't allowed or wasn't what the show is about then he wouldn't have been put through the producers before even getting through to the judges. Creating music with your voice is more than just singing. The voice globally has had rappers before they are still musicians. He's beat boxing he's creating melody for the entire song with his voice! He's a musician using his voice the show is called the voice you said that yourself. He is doing 100 times more what any of the other artists are doing just because lyrics aren't coming out of his lips doesn't mean he isn't singing to sing is to keep within a tune and rhythm correctly and he does that in so many ways. Singing isn't just about lyrics on your logic jazz singers who do scat aren't really singing because they aren't using lyrics aren't singing "properly"?
Jenbug0402 No doubt he’s unique and all but I feel like the producers are keeping him around because he’s very controversial. People will definitely be talking about him haha
He obviously has a good voice and the argument has been made repeatedly that it is his voice he uses to make the beats and background. Yes, BUT, he loops it so he records one word or phrase (a few secs of vocalizing) and it keeps going so it isn't the same as singing the whole way through a song. If we consider this as the music provided by instruments or the band, ok but, he should at least sing the same amount as everyone else. As it is, he spends, half the time or more building up the backing before even getting to the meat of the song and then it's over. How much time does he actually spend vocalizing? And even when we were hearing actual singing you could barely see so I couldn't tell if he looped it again or if he sang that one short chorus at the end the whole way through. His initial vocalizations with the sustained notes were great but he only did a few seconds then he loops it so is that on par with someone who is giving the effort of singing notes the whole way through. I wouldn't consider that as singing then but same as someone playing the guitar and killing it. No one disputes his artistry and even his vocal skills are apparent but it is unfair to those who join the contest and vocalize for the whole song and not just phrases here and there. To even the field, just make sure he sings the same amount as everyone else, he can still do his thing but he must vocalize the same amount as everyone else.
cdcotr completely agree. I don't understand how people don't see the unfair advantage he has over the other contestants with that machine of his. It basically gives him what autotune or any other effect gives: artificial enhancement and a mask to hide vocal flaws behind. He's bringing a bike to a foot race, a bionic arm to an arm-wrestling match. Say it with me...unfair
"How much time does he actually spend vocalizing?" Are you nuts? That's _all_ he's doing! Everything he does on-stage is vocalizing! The show is called "THE VOICE" and you simply cannot call your show that if you would disqualify someone who layers---LIVE---seventeen distinct vocal tracks on top of each other... LIVE! (Did I mention he's doing this LIVE?) I think you have an unfairly-narrow definition of "vocalization". Sure, he's doing something different, but it's _all_ about _his voice._
Ryan West The thing here is other contestants would exert more effort in their vocal chords to be able to give a jaw-dropping performance because they have to sing throughout the song. It can be strenuous, which makes their voices more likely to falter. That is the unfair advantage. But really, props to this guy, cause his voice is awesome. Wish he will sing a full song next - or at least more.
You're not wrong, but my point is that your argument isn't relevant. Yes, he has an _advantage,_ but it's only an _unfair_ advantage if it's against the rules. It isn't---indeed, it invokes the spirit of "The Voice" by being a surprising, unique and excellent use of one's _voice._ I mean, you could argue that people who play their own instruments are wielding an "unfair advantage" by bringing a guitar or a piano onto a show that is supposed to be about a person's "voice". Every sound Sam makes is his _voice,_ which is absolutely not true of contestants who play instruments.
Ryan West That is a very good point, now that you mentioned it. I really do root for this guy for being brave and I am interested to hear him do a stripped performance with all the vocal looping. That might change other people's minds.
What are you on about? While the other singers have background music to make their voice more radiant, he entirely makes his own. That is a true display of "Voice". The singers simply use different tech.
it was all done with his voice though he is the perfect example of the voice all the other singers have instrumentals but his is literally only his voice
Natasha Harrington then, it seems our buddy here has a tad bit of an unfair advantage. Since everything is his VOICE they might as well just give him the award already, if what determines victory is the amount of voice a contestant uses
Your first comment says he shouldn't be in the competition because he wasn't singing enough then your next comment says he should get the award for using more voice than anyone else. Make your mind up.

Singing isn't just about lyrics on your logic jazz singers who do scat aren't really singing because they aren't using lyrics aren't singing "properly"?
ruclips.net/video/9CbVy1NnB4g/видео.html two of the greats "not singing" as they aren't using lyrics and "singing"
Jenbug0402 No doubt he’s unique and all but I feel like the producers are keeping him around because he’s very controversial. People will definitely be talking about him haha
This guy have the all package. Amazing. 😮
That might change other people's minds.
when the judge said let's go he totally went beast mode hh
His place is in Got Talent....
Heisenberg but at the end he would have to contest with other singers...
What are you on about? While the other singers have background music to make their voice more radiant, he entirely makes his own. That is a true display of "Voice". The singers simply use different tech.
His place is … WINNER The Voice Australia 2018 as of 6/17/2018
He is extra talented with a great voice. I hope he goes all the way to the end. it's something refreshing, interesting and NOT BORING..
Singing competition? Funny how the show is about the voice and we can’t hear his voice for 3/4 of the performance
He's making the whole track with his voice. What re you listening to?
nethe0 he must be using those cheap ass headphones....
The WHOLE TRACK is his voice! No musicians like the other competitors, nor autotune. Just acapella with himself. Awesome.
Christian Kelly yeah, but no on his singing part
Victor - simply put - YOU'RE AN IDIOT!!
The ONLY thing you hear is his VOICE - no instruments, just his tracks laid down of HIS VOICE!!
Wow azming ..Respect from Malaysia
This shoudnt be in this competition... He literally spent over half the video making the beat, not singing
it was all done with his voice though he is the perfect example of the voice all the other singers have instrumentals but his is literally only his voice
Make your mind up.
nethe0 oh man you’re right! I forgot what I said, thanks man
LOL I thought that too! And he sung like what 2 lines? haha. He's good but I thought that was a bit BS.
