I've just read that and I don't think it said the differences were huge, mainly the exhaust added more character but with a video you can hear that for yourself rather than trust the subjective opinion expressed in words. It also mentions a "track mode" and new steering wheel which it doesn't have. I probably could have written that without driving the car and assumed the Akrapovic had got to sound better (but it doesn;t)
Watch the video again slakka he drives them differently so the comparison dosent compare at all their is a massive difference! Watch from 9mins on he also give the grey more blip on lift off to make his pop more! Bias review in my opinion
Sorry about the audio quality in places, rest assured this is being looked at. I suspect the GoPro USB port is on the way out which isn't easy to fix as Hero 4s are only available used and changing GoPro model means changing lots of accessories. I've had a Hero 5 waiting in the wings for nearly a year but just don't trust it.
I feel your pain! I also use Hero 4's and on occasion I find that the sound can drop out if there is more than one 'strong' sound (as in my voice and seagulls in the background)!
After rewatching this videos he’s bias to the silver car! Maybe you didn’t know about the 45 when you got your gti! On the drive he had the red 45 he accelerated differently to the silver so their is no comparison on exhaust note! In my opinion the video dosent show a true comparison! Plus when the 45s exhaust settles in it will pop and bang more! Is he upset the 45 is better I think so! He won’t be buying one as he bought the normal club! Every one has their opinion
Previous anniversary models were a bit more special. Last one that was just trim was Mk3 and nobody was that fussed about it even in the following years when they went out of production
@@volkswizard was anyone that bothered about the Mk3? Apart from the VR6 which didn’t drive as nicely as the 16v… the added kudos of having an anniversary, having the titanium exhaust which you can’t option on a clubsport, will be enough to hold residuals up. As you have shown with your current series, looking at the anniversary models rather than just the production ones!
I've been waiting for someone to compare the CS and 45 edition. For me, I'm pleased I kept with the CS. The only thing you are gaining is the akrapovic exhaust system and after hearing both the 45 edition and CS exhaust, I'm surprised that I can't notice a huge amount of difference....each to their own I guess! Thanks for this!
Hope it was worth the wait! I had my suspicions about Ed45 once I knew there was no performance gain and saw those wheels. I approached with an open mind and the Kings red did tease me somewhat BUT no getting away from the fact that a £2750 of useful extras on base CS makes it a far better car.
Hi..enjoyed your video...cant wait for you to do a CS ED 40 vs CS ED 45..like you have done before CS vs CSS and CS vs TCR...odd that no one has even mentioned nor compared the ED 45 against the ED 40...
Funny you should mention that as I've got an Ed40 as a project car and I did consider comparing it to Ed45 but I didn't because there really is no comparison! I think Ed40 would make Ed45 look even more weak. The only thing in favour of the newer cars is that they do drive better, chassis is better sorted and on 19s they ride better than a CS Ed40 (passive dampers vs passive dampers)
Somebody asked that before but here in the UK the Clubsport gets IQ light as standard as does the base 245 GTI too. I’ve visited Cologne many times, great place 👍
@@volkswizard even if the IQ lights weren't standard, it makes the point that you made - that the Ed45 can be replicated on a Clubsport with a few options
Given the choice I'd still go for the 45. The small changes improves the look quite a bit. And even the exhaust is just a small improvement, but it's a small improvement that it needed.
Great vid as always. For me the ‘45’ is just a nice version of clubsport, which is already a fantastic car. I love cars, but, my missus thinks I’m stupid, so the fact it came with the Akrapovic without me having to say “honey, I’m saving up for a new exhaust” is perfect 😂. I got a very good deal too, kings red, DCC, winter pack and Harman Kardon…. It’s just the wait and the delays now, predicting October delivery 🙄. I agree with what you’re saying about this not being special. Back in 2006 (long before kiddies and the need for rear seats) I had a Mini GP1, that was a true special, limited numbers and all identical except the side of the steering wheel and unique number decal/plaque. I do hope that VW do something extra special for the 50th birthday and probably the finale of all things GTI.
R isn't really the same kind of car as this review explains www.autoexpress.co.uk/volkswagen/golf/354514/volkswagen-golf-gti-clubsport-vs-volkswagen-golf-r
@@volkswizard OEM and yes I suppose, although my TCR with Akrapovic sounds a lot better now than when it was brand new. The sound is much deeper and refined. Do you know how long the edition 45 will be sold for?
Love your content man and I like your video. But it's tough to watch as you don't have stats display on your video, and your mic probably makes your voice sounds monotonous.
No but I am glad it did it! I could have driven pretty much any GTI you could think of but it was a half day event and the only decent video that could be made to in the time available to justify the time and effort was on one car and it had to be the most newsworthy.
Well done getting your video out so soon, this is the first UK review I've watched and may I say I thought I was really going to want a Ed45. I'll stick with my TCR for a bit longer, I'm sure this won't be the last MK8 special edition.
Thanks! Left event at 1730, got home 8pm after a bit of editing in a layby. Edited until around 11pm. Couldn't sleep (no surprise) so up at 0130 to finish off an upload, sent live at around 0750. Worth the effort as a rare chance for me to post an early review of a model since VW told dealers not to lend me cars without calling them first.
I like 7.5 R but if it's a good choice, it depends on your needs and desires. Also depends on spec and how good a deal you got as Rs have been silly money since summer 2021 but hopefully calmed down and you did get a deal. 9k is low mileage so you can go and use it and it won't lose much money. Enjoy!
It’s all about the weight. The difference in cloth vs. faux leather for the center console armrest thereby making the CS45 edition .00000001 quicker in the 0-60 sector, thereby justifying it’s increased price. :)
That's not VW's way, they'll delete items to make a car lighter but still charge you full whack for it - the accountants prefer that method of lightening to the exotic materials version.
Was not much to think about for me, bought my ED45 for 430,000 Swedish kroner (36275 £) I am lucky enough to work at a VAG company and got a good discount!
I was actually suprised by your conclusion - but I agree. I hate those wheels on the Ed45 - just looks tacky. The Akrapovic exhaust is ok (and will probably last as long as the car🤣), but is hardly practical - I've never liked cars that have "snaps & crackles" exhausts. Totally agree with the interior verdict too - could VW not have put in part leather seats? Or even embossed the standard seats with "45" instead of "GTi"? Just seems like minimal effort went into it. I suppose the Ed 45 is good value in some ways, but if I was buying a Clubsport (which I wouldn't - I'm an R guy), I'd do what you suggested - I'd never buy a Mk 8 without the Harmon Kardon system (for the sound, not the looks). You'll know more about this than me, but I wonder how the Ed 45 value will hold up in the future? Might it be worth more as a special edition? I suppose you could buy an Ed 45 & run your own wheels on it (to keep the original ones pristine), but that's a faff.
I'm not an out and out fanboy which I hope means people trust my verdict. Experience has taught me to be a bit cynical about VW especially in a post dieselgate/pre EV limbo where there heart isn't it any more. In the past the Editions have offered something special for their increased price, not things an owner can do with bits off ebay like Edition 45. You shouldn't be able to replicate it on a Clubsport with bolt on bits. So I don't think they will hold their value any better, they are £2750 more and I doubt this gap will get bigger as they get older.
@@volkswizard VW's heart isn't in it is pretty clear, definitely. I'm thinking of the video you did a good while ago, comparing the standard Mk5 GTi with an Edition 30 - that was more like it! Most people who subscribe to your channel do so because your verdicts are always well thought out & reasoned (even if your verdict isn't one I'd necessarily completely agree with!).
If you really wanted you could put an Akra exhaust on the standard CS, hmmm so its basically a Clubsport with some different wheels and a few 45 badges. . . .not that special then!
They don't list Mk8 as yet which is probably to give the OEM parts some exclusivity but a Mk7 GTI slip on system is £1800 and not subject to the drive by noise restrictions of whole cars.
I guess that by buying a standard Clubsport and retro-fitting options such as wheels/tyres, you avoid the luxury car tax that continues for 5 years with £40K plus cars. The edition 45 with a paint option will incur that. It is not much of a penalty but it still niggles.
Spot on David - you can get a pretty damn good CS for under £40k (and a bit as first year tax isn't included in £40k threshold - I've finally had this confirmed after someone corrected me incorrectly!). So that something like £40600 on the road.
Glad you liked it! I am fully aware my videos can go on a bit but there really wasn't much to talk about here so that helped a lot! I think 10-15 mins is ample and I'll work on that in the future. With this series I am trying to get all the facts in one place so some can get quite lengthy but should be quite interesting still. 2 car tests are headache for filming, editing, processing and uploading due to complexity and file sizes but this was easy. New mics for next time BTW
I would agree with you Andrew would rather have the standard club sport don’t like the red on the wheels but do like the contrasting red roof but you could have a club sport and spec it up to your liking a great review as ever
There are more with the sporty gaping front bumper that without which confirms my suspicions the car was designed around this rather than base models first R line GTE GTD GTI 245 GTI CS GTI CS Ed45 R
I like to think I was behind Vw's Black and red themed Anniversary as mines been like that in the 12/13 years I've owned it 😂😂... or the person to blame from another Angle Andrew haha!
Love the kings red colour on the ED45 but not fussed on the wheels, although they are better than Richmonds! Disappointed by the exhaust sound, I guess OPF has negated its advantage? Does the ED45 sit slightly lower than your CS @10:30? Great video as always!
It's true, they are better than the Richmonds! I don't think OPF is the issue. OPF came along at a time when manufacturers were subject to ever more stringent noise regulations and it was useful for quietening down a car but with a properly tuned exhaust it can still sound good as the standard car does. Problem is the Akrapovic also needs to comply with exhaust regs when it's been homlogated for OEM fitment so ultimately it can't be any louder than the standard car if that's pushing the boundaries.
Looks like a driving school car with alloy gaiters on. I had a 25th and the ball burnished BBS were really nice. These are a bit motorworld multi fit to look at.
Those BBS were lovely but corroded very badly very quick. I don't think the warranty claims department would like to see a ball burnished finish used again 😁
Hey Andrew, hope you're doing well mate. How and/or why is the rear view camera staying out on 9:20 despite the fact that you are obviously driving forward? I've seen this on a bunch of occasions with several VW cars and i always wondered what's up with that.
Easy answer. To stop it going in and out all the time, they delay folding in for a set amount of time. I'd just done a 3 point turn literally just before flooring it and it was out when I reversed then. Perfectly normal
@@volkswizard Yeah, thought about something like that, i mean that you probably just have done a turn and the camera just stays out for an certain amount of time, makes sense... Anyway, thanks for clearing things up on my end Andrew and sweet video as usual, looking forward for more.
I see they carried over the red stripe wheel from the 2019 Mk7 GLI 35th Anniversary edition .. it has mixed reviews, I go back-n-forth on how I think it looks, somedays I like it, other times I don't 🤔 I think it looks pretty good on this GTI 45 with the red painted body
I specifically chose this car as I felt it showed the Edition 45 bits off as best as possible. I think pin stripe wheels are in dubious taste but I understand how defining the edge of a black wheel before it meets the tyre is an important design feature. For years German cars with black wheels always had a polished edge to do this which was inoffensive. I guess it's less offensive here as the red body reduces its visual effect somewhat. It's kind of annoying that it's actually a different red though!
can't say I noticed much of a difference in exhaust note and the red stripe on wheels is a no from me. Anyway only 7 days to go in the longest wait ever for a car!!
David I thought you changed your order to an R? Is that your original order in the Frank Keane showroom, silver with black wheels? I have one ordered since May. Due to be built first week in July 🤞
@@JoeGTI5 yeah switched to R and was to be built beginning of May which never happened and pushed back to September now. I ordered cs last November and it only appeared a few weeks ago. I think it's worth the extra for the DCC, wheels and Akrapovic. Also likely to hold its value better. But still a missed opportunity by lack of attention to details.
DCC isn't standard on Edition 45. Value will be defined by how many they sell but there really isn't any better value buying the Edition 45 so unless you really want the extra bits they give you like black roof and wheels, it's got more money to loose for not a lot of gain. I don't think Edition 45 will be seen as a desirable special like the Edition 30 or Edition 40 was and in both case they struggled to sell those and they only went a bit nuts value wise once they went out of production.
@@volkswizard In that case, it really is just down to whether someone wants the better wheels and the Akrapovic; good value package if they do, but the first box I'd tick would be the DCC.
I won’t be buying any Golf mk8 and will stick with my 7.5 pp. I could get it tuned up to 300bhp and it would be as good as a Clubsport but I like the balance of performance and economy in the 7.5. as it is, I’m very happy with it. Putting 19” wheels and low profile tyres on a sporty car ruins the potential handling and won’t be best on the road or track. Oh yes and where’s the refund for the standard exhaust that you’re paying for as well as the Akrapovic?
7.5 PP is good but Mk8 GTI & Clubsport chassis a lot better if a little firmer. The Mk8 is no worse on fuel than your car but has 55 PS more. 19s actually improve handling (as long as road isn't too bumpy) but reduce the ride quality, there is no way they can be worse on a track with 19s as the tyres are wider (225 vs 235) which is exactly what you need with a power front wheel drive car. I agree 19s with 225 tyres (like Brescia on Mk7) are not a great idea.
@@volkswizard Volkswizard I forgot to take the opportunity to say how I agree with you entirely on the ‘kick down’ it’s dangerous. I also don’t like the way the gearbox changes down automatically in manual mode it confuses things, when you think you’re in 4th but out of sight it’s changed down to 3rd, you change down to what you think is 3rd and end up with the engine screaming in second.
No it's not bad. Watch my DCC vs Passive video. The Mk8 Clubsport without DCC even on 19s is better than the Mk7 7.5 on 19s without DCC. It these older cars that made me think you really need DCC on 19s but the Mk8 while firm isn't as crashy once you get up to speed. Also Mk8 on DCC in comfort mode is still a bit too firm around town which is what I'd normally order DCC to resolve. However the 'ring mode is really rather good when attacking a British B road and it's for this reason that I'd always order DCC. The passive damper car is still good but the way DCC soaks up bumps is sublime.

Thanks for the detailed review as always, loved the editing (cheeky sad face) - I was debating one of the mk8 Golf variants for some time, but I ended up going for the Cupra Formentor as it comes as standard with all the options I would have included in the Golf. Have you had a go with the Cupra Formentor?
@@volkswizard Not 100% sure where you are based but they have Cupra dealers in Bristol, Swindon and Reading. I was lucky enough to have a 6 hour test drive so if you reach out, I am sure they will do something similar. I would love to see a video with your thoughts! It would have to be the 310ps variant though. If you choose Swindon let me know, I have been speaking with the specialist there and they are very accommodating :)
Love both cars ! But they both should have had a touch more power. Currently got a cupra 300 looking to upgrade think ill have to go with the R but prefer the look of these 2
That was the official line from VW but it's another I'd take with pinch of salt. Dolphin is a weird one as it would work with a black roof and mirrors, just like Edition 40 in Carbon Steel grey did.
As a mk5 ed30 and mk7r dsg owner you would be mad not to have the 45 over the standard CS all day... it looks better and you have the quedos of a proper special edition.... and better residual values etc...
What if you find red stripes on the wheels and numbers on the doors not to your taste? I wouldn't go assuming that residuals will be any better, for a start it costs £3000 more to start off with and there isn't an awful lot of difference between it and a Clubsport. Also previous special edition like your Edition 30 had more power, the perfect seats and a different 'bodykit' so there is a tangible reason why these are sought after. Having said that in 2008 they were struggling to sell them when new.
@@volkswizard agreed! I don't like the red stripe... don't mind the 45 badge too much however... some wheel force alloys would look great on the car or concavers..... the alloys on the ed45 do look a bit like a cheap ...but maybe they are flowformed/hybrid forged? similar to what you have on your CS. Vw have seriously confused everyone.. they release the standard mk8 gti... then immediately offer a cs version as they realise the standard car is underpowered and is a car in no man's land.... then they release the ed45!... we all thought the CS was basically the new name for the anniversary car!!!!! I'm still waiting patiently for a Golf RS btw....come vw!
Go into the Mk6, notice how well made and classy it looks. Jump into the Mk8, it feels like a huge step down. You would think VW would have built on the Mk6 strengths
VAG prices have increased way above inflation since the dieselgate scandal. Quality and spec has also dropped. I have bought about 10 new VWs since 2014, but will buy no more.
I can see where you are coming from. Meanwhile Kia/Hyundai don't have any baggage like that and are creating decent product and hacking away slowly but surely at VW's dominance. If it wasn't for the switch to electric I'd say VW were in deep trouble, now it's a full on war with Tesla as well as the Koreans and it could go either way.
I don’t get it. I think the problem is Clubsport is not seen as very special, it’s just a faster GTI Performance which was a low key car, cloth seats and door cards, no GTI on its seats. But then again it didn’t have decals on the doors and a huge spoiler. Or cost £37000
Have to agree with your conclusion, the Edition 45 is just not special enough. VW should have given it at least 10 horses more and a much better interior (different seats, Edition 45 stitching, alcantara steering wheel and DSG knob). As you mentioned, it is indeed a mess how they executed the Clubsport design elements. Nobody is waiting for a Volkswagen etching into the B-pillar, and even less people want to see a Golf logo on the ash tray cover.. The red pinstripe on the rims will only appeal to the 25 year olds, but they couldn't possible afford one.. With the end in sight for the IC engine, I hope VW can get a grip on themselves and start thinking about the Mk9 Edition 50, which would be the last petrol GTI, dropping in that 2.5 liter RS3 engine, would be a good start..
I'd be happy with the 333 PS engine that's in the owners manual but hasn't been deployed yet. I think with base CS they gave it special edition power but wanted to keep it quite low key which is cool but they could have stitched GTI into seats in grey or just embossed it. Then the Edition 45 should have had 45 in the seats and sill covers and mats plus pin stripe seat belts. The pointless Akrapovic money would have gone a long way to funding this and all they needed to do was black tip the OEM exhaust to match the wheels to make it standout. If there was cash left, chucking in DCC would have been nice too especially as 19s are standard as passive damper ride won't suit everyone.
@@volkswizard Couldn't agree more! With that Akra money, they could have done so much more and make it a more desirable car.. So far only Audi offer black packs, I guess VAG management wants to maintain the hierarchy
Hey Kev, Clubsport is an awesome car, it's just that the Edition 45 isn't much better and could be seen as inferior by some especially if you spec a Clubsport with DCC and don't like pinstripe wheels
Different strokes for different folks Jason. The fact you'd buy an R instead of the best driving GTI with back seats just shows we have very different tastes.
To be fair you didn’t really do a great exhaust comparison , I am 99% sure the akrapovic will sound much better with a louder tone, and better pops and crackles
I think VW have totally lost their way making the Golf line-up far too complicated, they should have just stuck with GTI, GTI Edition & R. I saw an R with other day and actually actually mistook it for a GTE, the blue accents on the R are identical to that on the E 🙄 oh dear.
Hello volkswizard! Love the content! Quick question for you. Im in Ireland and just bought a 2017 Mk7 facelift (it was a UK import). I keep reading (in Reddit mostly) about various different specs (s/se/autobahn) but I've no clue what spec my car is. Do the UK variants have these different specs too and how would I find out? I've tried various VIN websites but still none the wiser. Appreciate any help you can provide 👍
Thanks Allan! I don't recall S/SE/Autobahn here in the UK for 7.5, Match and R line were pretty common though. I'd bet yours is a Match if it's not obvious, here is some more info on it; www.carbuyer.co.uk/news/166590/volkswagen-golf-match-2018-prices-specification-and-on-sale-date
Yes, OPF really isn't the problem with noise, it's noise laws that new cars have to comply with. If you take an exhaust off and leave OPF on, a car is REALLY DEAFENINGLY LOUD!
I'll be completely honest, I don't like the Mk8 Golf much. I don't really like the front or rear fascias, I think the interior is inferior to the Mk7.5 in nearly every way, especially when it comes to infotainment and seating. Both Volkswagen and BMW seem to be going in reverse now, and it makes me a bit sad. Of course, that's just my opinion. I'm sure it'll sell well, they always do. That being said, I do quite enjoy the new Jetta.
Nice video but while im 51, i still would take those wheels with red line lol. And BTW, its very expensive here in fuck country belgium and DCC isnt even included, its still a 850 euro option
In Belgium, new laws apply and red pinstripe is OK for over 50s 👍 DCC is still an option here in the UK where the roads are probably worse than yours. It's OK for the ze Germans with their super smooth roads though 😉
The red on the wheels is a rubber insert from bbs. Those are bbs wheels. Oem bbs wheels. Man you hate on it I'm in America where we get literally no special editions.
It's all subjective but it's generally seen as no no in fashion to mix blue and black. Plus I think VW wanted the roof to contrast so colours like blue and dark grey well pulled as they were too close.
When was the mk8 GTi released? And how many variants have we had in say eight months? In six months time their will be the VW Golf Gti Clubsport edition 45.1. 😂 I honestly can’t keep up. Marketing department need bloody shot!!!! Joke of a car.

Hope it was worth the wait! I had my suspicions about Ed45 once I knew there was no performance gain and saw those wheels. I approached with an open mind and the Kings red did tease me somewhat BUT no getting away from the fact that a £2750 of useful extras on base CS makes it a far better car.
Completely agree. With my preferences a 45 would come out just over 40k margin, whereas the Clubsport under. If I’m going to go over I’d go for the R.
The only thing in favour of the newer cars is that they do drive better, chassis is better sorted and on 19s they ride better than a CS Ed40 (passive dampers vs passive dampers)
..guess u cant fight progress and tech...
project ED 40 car...cant wait to see u share dat...
Those wheel are 100% better than your wheels volkswizard
If everyone likes my wheels I’ve bought the wrong wheels.
maybe i missed it but the 45 edition has the IQ light standard too.
greetings from Cologne, Germany :)
If it doesnt have extra power, its not worth it.
VW seems to have gone downhill in terms of wheel design. I loved the Prets… but ever since then… not much
lost count of these GTI variants. for the price just get an R.
R isn't really the same kind of car as this review explains

Great video. But please stop reading from a script. You can hear the paper rustling as you speak
It's do that or don't make the video on this occasion under a lot of time pressure. I'm not a pro, never will be.
I own GTI MK8 19inch wheels with adaptive dampers . Thinking to change to 18 inch as I find the ride stiff. Would you recommend me to do so ?
To get the best sound out of the Akrapovic the car needs to be run in to at least 3k miles
frank keane has 2 ed45's due in August but will probably be August 2022 the way things are going!!
Is that for aftermarket or OEM? If the car has to meet noise regulations, it will need to meet them after 3k miles too won't it?
@@volkswizard OEM and yes I suppose, although my TCR with Akrapovic sounds a lot better now than when it was brand new. The sound is much deeper and refined. Do you know how long the edition 45 will be sold for?
Love your content man and I like your video. But it's tough to watch as you don't have stats display on your video, and your mic probably makes your voice sounds monotonous.
I loved the subtle mk1 going past in the background, was that intentional?
No but I am glad it did it! I could have driven pretty much any GTI you could think of but it was a half day event and the only decent video that could be made to in the time available to justify the time and effort was on one car and it had to be the most newsworthy.
@@volkswizard it was a case of good timing then, as always, another great video I'm not sure I could justify that much money for the edition 45 though
Reflex silver would’ve been great
I just think it’s too classy to get the black roof treatment
Hi volkswizard. I’ve just bought a 2019 golf R. 9000 miles on the clock. Did I make a good choice? Thanks 👍🏻
Enjoy!
Shockingly small difference between the two exhaust systems
It’s all about the weight. The difference in cloth vs. faux leather for the center console armrest thereby making the CS45 edition .00000001 quicker in the 0-60 sector, thereby justifying it’s increased price. :)
I think that was 0-62 actually 😂
Doesn't need more power, lightweight materials should be the way forward, carbon roof, lightweight alloys and brakes etc
That's not VW's way, they'll delete items to make a car lighter but still charge you full whack for it - the accountants prefer that method of lightening to the exotic materials version.
@@volkswizard the problem is deleting stuff from a golf would never work. I'm optimistic for the ed50 vw needs to something truly special!!
Was not much to think about for me, bought my ED45 for 430,000 Swedish kroner (36275 £)
I am lucky enough to work at a VAG company and got a good discount!
Great price there!
That intro music was cold. Keep that ish!
Thanks! Video edit was a rush job and that tune was number 1 of the recommended for my channel so I just heard a bit and said "that'll do" 😉
If you really wanted you could put an Akra exhaust on the standard CS, hmmm so its basically a Clubsport with some different wheels and a few 45 badges. . . .not that special then!
I always think that stickers on a car this expensive is a bit sh*t
Another good vid Andrew....cannot wait for the updates on the Mk5,4,3 versions to follow 👍
Thanks Glen, yes looking forward to doing the oldies 👍
Great video! You kept it short and to the point 🙌
The standard exhaust sounded better 😂 how can that be?
I would agree with you Andrew would rather have the standard club sport don’t like the red on the wheels but do like the contrasting red roof but you could have a club sport and spec it up to your liking a great review as ever
Standard exhaust sounds better and prefer the standard wheels over these halfords job lookalikes.

I find the decisions in badging etc all very odd with the ED45, probably the least convinding 'Edition' model made over it's predecessors.
It's weird, because badges are cheap and simple and don't need R&D and are what make tepid special editions a little bit more special
@@volkswizard I agree - it's very out of character with the brand!
So good to hear the Daddy Performance Golf is the Mk8R with Performance Pack and Akrapovic exhaust.😀
In a straight line, yes 😁

What on earth is happening the exhaust? Considering the Akrapovic sounds incredible on the 'R'. But muted on the 45...
I've not heard it on an R but I am surprised it's fruitier? Maybe if you pay £3100 for it as an option, it's better?
@@volkswizard thanks volkswizard I enjoy your videos keep them going 👍
@@volkswizard Volkswizard I forgot to take the opportunity to say how I agree with you entirely on the ‘kick down’ it’s dangerous. I also don’t like the way the gearbox changes down automatically in manual mode it confuses things, when you think you’re in 4th but out of sight it’s changed down to 3rd, you change down to what you think is 3rd and end up with the engine screaming in second.
I’ve just bought a clubsport which I’m picking up tommorow without DCC please tell me it’s not that bad ?????

The colour of the official pictures is also moonstone grey, although it looks like dolphingrey. Its heavily edited though.

Thanks Keith. There really isn’t much to get excited about but on plus side Clubsport is so good anyway
@@volkswizard VW are rather lucky their electric range is decent, it’s also good for shaking off the diesel scandal I suppose
All these spec inconsistencies across the GTi suggests to me that the brand manager needs a Pan Whack

Nice one I had considered a new clubsport but after watching this I will have to think again have chat to my nearest dealer Food for thought
Hey Kev, Clubsport is an awesome car, it's just that the Edition 45 isn't much better and could be seen as inferior by some especially if you spec a Clubsport with DCC and don't like pinstripe wheels

@@volkswizard 😊😁
Used 7.5 Gti basic version and your choice of mods from Revo instead.
Mk8 chassis is a big improvement though over 7.5
@@volkswizard Agreed, but have you driven a Revo modded Golf? For me the touch system, inflated price and worse looks outweighs. I'd skip this gen.
The red on the wheels is a rubber insert from bbs. Those are bbs wheels. Oem bbs wheels. Man you hate on it I'm in America where we get literally no special editions.
You got the fahrenheit Mk5!
@@volkswizard well and the 2019 rabbits which I have a 6spd cornflower gti. But no power bumps.
Blue and black looking abit weird?? My old car had that theme and looked awesome
I honestly can’t keep up. Marketing department need bloody shot!!!! Joke of a car.
45 edition akrapovic, gti logo in seats, wheels, black roof, even door cards, centre console, ye that thing to rest your elbow on, it's just better, far better... Add Dcc, Pan roof & this cars residual value goes thru the roof!! Let's be frank john, your silver clubsport looks like a 'life' model compared to this red 45! There's only 1 clubsport to buy, the 45!!☝
At 9:15 .. Yet another video of the rear camera being deployed on a press car whilst going forwards ?? A VW security / insurance measure perhaps?
No, I'd just been reversing and it stays open for fixed time to stop it open and closing repeatedly when doing 3 point turns etc. This isn't new
Today, Golf 8 GTI Clubsport is the best hot hatch in the world
I can’t argue with that. Not everyone wants to admit it but considering the breadth of its abilities it’s a serious piece of kit
@@volkswizard Oh yea,no doubt...Maybe the interior isnt for everyones taste, but its a hell of car..But Im still jealous of your Clubsport S..That is my dream car..I wish VW makes it again for 8 gti
