In the 1990s Russia experienced the growth of its video game industry. The first console to ever gain popularity in Russia was Dendy - a Russian bootleg version of the Nintendo Entertainment System. Hope u like and sub thx xoxo

I remember being at friends' home watching neighbor playing Tanks. You could pick up the signal, because these consoles were plugged in as antenna and, amplified by the TV itself, emitted some of the signal to the area around- so you just tune in and watch. So yeah- Eastern Block invented Twitch .
I had one chinesse clone of Dendy, that called "Haili 777" in my childhood and it wasn`t necessary to connect through antenna input, because it has a small antenna inside of it and broadcast reciver, so you just need to tune your tv and find your broadcasting console. Just magic:)
We use to do that here in Costa Rica, the signal even reach several houses down the street.
It's not like twitch, more like cuckolding

I'm from Brazil, and I owned a Russian Famiclone called "Mega Power" back when I was a kid. I eventually moved on to an original SNES, but that console is what started my long lasting love for video games that persists to this day. I played tons of those bootlegged "100 in 1" cartridges in it. While most of the stuff on those cartridges was crap, I did own one with Super Mario Bros and Contra, so it wasn't all that bad. Oh, there was also one with Hogan's Alley and Duck Hunt. Both contained Battle City, if I recall correctly.
All in all, I had a lot of fun playing tons of bootlegs as a kid, and I have some weird nostalgia for those days nowadays. The idea of getting a cartridge without really knowing what you're getting into, and playing a console that's literally just a bootleg Famicom clone. I dunno, I kinda miss it.
Oh, and we also refer to copying machines as "xerox" here in Brazil.
As a fellow Brazilian, I bet your pretty good English is also largely on account of growing up playing video games

We had the "Pegasus" model here and let me tell you, it was the HOTTEST SHIT in my city.
Nobody else even heard about it, so when I told my friends to come by and play some games together, they were so blown away by the console we literally had kids from my school coming to play something every single day.
One might say, my parents were angry with that... but they were super cool with it, since both of them were playing Battle City (Tanks) or Contra, OG Mario Bros, Donkey Kong and other games together.
It was even decided who will clean the dishes or takes out trash by who will loose in 1v1 in some of those games (ofc who had the higher score)
Man I love these memories, when we finally had a PC, my parents were playing all kinds of games (esp. RPGs) and the most popular game here was Might & Magic 6.
My mom drew a map of every location and even drew a map of all the locations connected together.
My dad then wrote all the potions effects, all the trainers and skills, all the quests and to this day we have that huge book of maps, potion recipies and quest guides in my parents living room stored right next to the VHS when me and my sister were born and our family photos.
All thanks to my uncle who went to Poland BY MYSTAKE and needed an excuse for the travel so he bought Micro Genius IQ-502 (Pegasus) as a gift for us (because it was not possible to get your hands on it in my country at the time)

I've also watched Kinamania's series on Dendy called "Curse of the Grey Elephant". I find it hilarious that on TV shows like Novaya Realnost Dendy, the host would say things like, "Joe and Mac is just a rip off of Super Mario 15", since there had already been released earlier in Russia a pirated version of Joe and Mac, with Mario and Luigi sprites swapped in. When the ACTUAL game Joe and Mac was finally released in Russia, the original version was accused of being the pirate copy! Comedy gold!

It seemed like it had some common titles like the Dendy from what you were saying, but I felt the connection was weak as it wasn't the same thing as a Dendy. Some additional elaboration might've helped there. Also, listing some sources (maybe in the video description) would give you more credibility and let viewers research the topic some more. Otherwise, I really liked this break in style from some of your other videos. It's nice to have a little variety. I enjoyed learning from it. Good job!

PS. A small trivia for ya: the Eastern-European bootleg of NES/Famicom, Pegasus, was made by a bogus company BobMark, founded by a guy who had preciously imported used clothes from Asia to Polish second-hand shops... however, the mid-90s amendments to Polish Copyright Law - more specifically, 1994 update to _Ustawa o prawie autorskim_ - turned out to be a "little" obstacle to his business.
BobMark didn't share the fate of Steepler and go bankrupt, though, and continued to stay in business; and that's because they just ditched video games & started to produce fizzy, carbonated drinks licensed from the West.

Translated, that would be "Video Ace Dendy".
"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.", however is "Агенты Щ.И.Т.", pronounced "Aghenty SHIT" (yes, "shield" in Russian is "shit" [щит])
@@Booruvcheek shield in my language (Czech) is štít, which is pretty similar 😁
@@FilFee 🤝 Common Slavic root, I guess
@@Booruvcheek to be fair, щит would normally transliterate as "shchit" and not "shit", though it is pronounced similarly
@@JosephRobinsonSMBX These transliterations never seize to irritate me. For instance, why Хабаровск would be transliterated as Khabarovsk? This word does NOT start with K! Just because French can't read a good honest H at the start of a word, sacre bleu.. (alsoKharkov, kolkhoz).
Same thing with words starting with H transliterated as starting with Г (Henry -> Генри, Hamburg -> Гамбург).
Woow good job Roman, really informative and professional video!
Canadian kids played that tank game game too. We had multicarts in every mom and pop store and that was on each and every one of them. It was a japanese game called Battle City, never came out officially outside of Japan.
It's funny that someone took up this topic on your part. It is always interesting to look at opinions from a different perspective. As for “even sold now”, it’s funny to go to the electronics store and see Dendy with a few unknown games uploaded to it, and the NES Mini is nearby. Logically bought NES at the time, and laughed at Dendy. But for the older generation, this thing was extremely nostalgic, as there were no alternatives, or they were extremely expensive and no one could afford them. Nintendo and Sega also fought here, only they took on the appearance of Dendy and Sega Genesis and Sega won. It is still strange to look at the generations of that time, which grew up on Dendy games and still do not know that it is pirated. In addition to this, we really liked the games from Nintendo that got to us, but for some reason today for many people their games are considered childish and not worthy of attention, unlike some kind of COD or Dota :( .
It's kinda interesting to hear that another country also uses the word xerox to describe any photocopying machine... I actually didn't know it was a brand until now tbh, cool story bro
I think that most of East Europe does it
Wow 😮 great job! I love these “history” videos!
That is pretty cool that the new one has an SD card slot so that you can download rams and play them on a consul. Very interesting about Dendy, growing up in the west I had never heard of one of these but I do remember when the original NES was something a lot of rich kids head and my uncle finally bought one so every time we went to visit my uncle I would get to play it which was a very big deal! Even as middle class in the United States in the early 90s that was a huge deal to me at least… Thanks for the videos, cheers!
the constant inclusing of Battle City in famiclones has got to be due to it using one of the simplest NES mappers, i can't imagine those are too hard to recreate with minimal NES-on-a-chip hardware
Wasn’t expecting a Scott the Woz reference.

Cant believe i just found your channel!
11:56 The speed and animation at which Mario throws the crates leads me to believe this is a Sega Genesis version of Chip & Dale. See the NES version for a comparison.
