    a pessimistic part of me can’t believe that there’s a market for assets, but numbers don’t lie! really cool work and, indeed, nice store pages that get to the point quickly! I’ve dabbled with the idea of selling assets since I love tiny art, and it’s really reassuring to hear that even 16px sprites get love and see life. congrats on the success and thanks for the inspiration!!

    • @Kenmi
      @Kenmi  Месяц назад +19

      yeah and mine are dirt cheap for what you get. The other thing is that not everyone is an artist and still wants to make pixel art games and ready assets aare cheaper than hiring an artist.

    • @albinalteborn
      @albinalteborn Месяц назад +12

      32x32 pixel art, in one tile that is 32^32 different combinations of pixels, that’s several billions times the amount of people on the planet. The more choice there is, the more satisfaction customers can feel, and as an artist you have your very own unique combination out of those 32^32 combinations. Your voice is irreplaceable. Not even an AI can generate that many tiles, and if it did it would take a lifetime to look through them all as opposed to making it yourself, directly manifesting what you want to see.

    • @4tarobyte
      @4tarobyte Месяц назад +4

      @@albinalteborn huh... you have a point. Thank you for the reassurance!! I've indeed been flip-flopping between being discouraged by and defiantly inspired despite AI slop taking over my image searches and feeds. @Kenmi  Месяц назад +8

      Oh I don't look at it that way. I made this cause this as a hobby and I didn't suspect to get anything out of it at all. The other thing is that for me 3.5k$ is like 3 minimal wages worth of money when i convert this into my currency so its kinda nice especially when I study and can keep paying bills with my hobby instead of the boring office work. So it really depends on the perspective and where you live.

    • @jeffstienstra3615
      @jeffstienstra3615 Месяц назад +1

      @Kosro its helpful to remember the potential for recurring revenue. Yes it is a huge time investment to make a new asset pack, but there is potential for the income to continue over a long period. I'm sure it will taper off over time, and will require well-planned updates to the pack to maintain interest, but if you're already making art as a hobby, this is a great way to make enough extra income to purchase items that make your hobby more fun. (or buy groceries)

      @@clray123 you do realize this is exactly the definition of passive income right? You create a thing, put it up for sale and over time it generates income. Even if he never spends another minute on these assets, it's still on the stores, earning (some) money while he sleeps. Sure it's not a lot right now, but as he adds more products to his library and a bit of promotion in the right places, the income will build on each other and multiply. You can't apply a $/hr metric to the work unless you apply it to the entire lifetime of the product on the store (also not witholding the fact that he's using the assets in his own game which will itself provide an income stream indirectly from these assets)

      @ghassensassi308 unless you have a huge following, I don't think you can rely on donations. I really like the free mage character. perhaps you could add onto it where you get the mage with several poses/animations for free, then the rest of the animations are paid. Or you could add accessories, like different robes, staffs, potions, etc that fit the mage theme. a few could be free, then the pack could be paid.
      Letting people use a few free assets gets their game/creation tied to your style and they'll eventually want to expand it with matching assets and (ideally) come back looking for more.
