    Lionel, you CRUSHED it. I have been with you since I started my triathlon racing at the ripe age of 57, now 61. I admire the way you decend into the world of pain and can stay there for so long. Arena was another example of this gift that you possess; discovering how to suffer. Your evolution as a triathlete, like another world class performer Lucy Charles-Barclays, continues; BRILLIANT!

    exactly 30s down after coming out of water as LS estimated in the pre-game interview, man’s a calculated machine!

  • @Ivan_Nano
    @Ivan_Nano Год назад +34

    LS finished 38 seconds behind, losing 30 seconds each time he swam, so at a 1:30m total disadvantage. That’s pretty amazing! If he would improve 10 seconds per swim (only 5s per 100m) he could’ve competed for the win. Come on Lionel, put all your effort into swimming better, you can do it!
    Unbelievable an Ironman elite can compete at this level at this ultra sprint distance.

    • @veganpotterthevegan
      @veganpotterthevegan Год назад

      Sure and if the other athletes biked better, that swim wouldn't matter as much. These "ifs" are pointless. Lionel isn't a beginner that's going to make huge gains in the water.

      @@veganpotterthevegan Hey Coach, maybe you know better, but my comment was not a "what if"...it was a fact. Compared to my 10 year old, he is a beginner. Just watched 20 200 freestyle races last week and every swimmer did at least 2 underwater dolphin kicks off the wall. Not hard to implement, just something he has never has to think about before. Everyone here is a LS fan.

    Amazing performance from LS after being so far behind after the swim.
    Just wondering if it is possible for an athlete who takes up swimming in their adults years to reach elite level? See there are some really big engines in long distance, Sam Long, Joe Skipper who struggle on the swim.

    As I am not aware of the rules here: why does the winner of round 2 get such a headstart into round 3? Then I think its no suprise who wins

    • @fastantio
      @fastantio Год назад +2

      In round 3, the headstart depends on the previous 2 rounds, so it is pretty fair. Like in a real event, the fastest one is ahead of x seconds. You need to perform in all 3 rounds to win at the end

    • @covboy70
      @covboy70 Год назад +1

      You earn the gaps across the first two legs. Then they restart in the 3rd leg based on these. That way you know that the first across the line after 3rd leg is the winner. It makes for better spectator event in the final (3rd) leg.

    Congratulations on securing as big a name as Lionel to this event. It would have been great to hear all the commentators pronounce his name correctly (Sanders not Saunders, it’s not difficult) from the start, this unfortunately seemed a bit demeaning given how much you put him in the spotlight. Great to see non drafting on the bike too.

  • @Liane-jp3yr

  • @ericasample8377
    @ericasample8377 Год назад +9

    As Lionel has been the big marketing push to this event it’s really annoying to hear the commentators ( Tim and Annie) constantly mispronounce his surname; it’s not like he’s new to the sport; nor they!🤷‍♀️ you need to respect these athletes by learning their names. Otherwise a great event!👍

    • @rogerc23
      @rogerc23 Год назад +2

      I thought it was pretty cool actually. You are truly finding out who is the best. Not about weather conditions, equipment or drafting. I don’t see this as a separate series though. I’d love it if the top pros got to qualify and do one or two races a season.

      I think it's just as fun to watch but not the same to do. But these guys make money off of us so it's good. I do wish they had a place metrics for all of them on the screen though

    • @veganpotterthevegan
      @veganpotterthevegan Год назад

      @Roger C whoever does the best outside is the best. This has it's merits on its own but it's ridiculous to count out athletes having to tend with outdoor conditions. That's part of what makes the sport great. As for equipment, some is also personal choice and risk like using ultra fast but more puncture prone tires. It also rewards people that work hard on having more aero positions on the bike and this negates that hard work. And they're all getting the added advantage of riding in a position that only rewards power, then the bigger riders don't have to contend with getting as beat up on the run since they benefit more from the treadmill.
