I'd like to thank you for introducing me to Pocky and Rocky. First time I'd seen it, but I have the entire SNES library on my PC, so I had to pause the video to check it out. Beautiful game, the sequel is really great too.
This was and is still my main gaming monitor for as long I can remember, someone trashed it in 97 or 98 and everything was working great, really love the render. Best monitor! Mine has a lot of BNC plugs behind it, never knew what is for
Love the aesthetic. I’ve heard that this monitor doesn’t have a high voltage regulator as all PVMs have, so you get blooming with bright areas, which similar to a regular TV.
Seems like a best of both worlds monitor, I got a 20” PVM years ago before the price fomo madness and I like it but it’s almost a bit too perfect and the thick scanlines are like window shades almost.
@@mikeg2491 you’re right about the scanlines, I prefer them not being too thick but I don’t like blooming, high voltage regulation is what sets monitors apart from TVs, the best of both worlds for me would be a monitor like the PVM 2030, and I have one.
This is basically an Apple RGB Monitor cripled down to low-res 240p ray control. It looks cool, but these do north of 500 bucks easily, so it is no display to hunt down. The Apple on the other hand can be found for just 50 bucks. If you get the Sony equivalent Multiscan, a GS100 or such that shares a similar tube, price again goes up crazy. So my advice, high res tubes of this size look nice, but get the Apple. Combine it with a 25 bucks MacMIni 2009, hunt down the needed conversion plugs to get 15 pin Apple style analog out, and install RetroArch, or go really vintage with a G4 Mini and MacMame, which is a retro emulator by itself, with super cool and easy controls.
@lovemadeinjapan Actually I have an old Mac monitor with the da15 connector, it's locked 480p/67hz and I'm trying to figure out how to get it to connect to my pc. Do you have any experience with those? One thing I haven't tried yet was a da15 to vga conversion with dip switch, but I'd be curious to know if anyone else has gotten a monitor of that sort to connect to pc without any funky software tricks
@@P-0-Seventeen That thing works, but make sure the signal is 640x480. The dips are to identify non-mac displays on a mac, so for use the other way around.
Did you calibrate the screen? One issue with the PVM 1390 is that the top right and left of the screen is consistently distorted (I'm not sure about the technical terms). I have three PVM-1390 units, but I haven't been able to achieve the same crisp top corners as yours.
I did, unfortunately there's no horizontal size to hide anything like that on the edges. Those edges tend to be curvy like that if you can see the edge of each side of the screen, but in particular these older sony's did it a bit more. The best I can do is adjust pincushion to try and even it out
Do you recall having examined a Toshiba 20AF42? One went up locally for $40, but I Dont believe it has a Toshiba picture tube. It may have a cheap Orion tube. I hear the general consensus is if your CRT says “made in Japan”, its probably quality. Do you have any idea of the tube and any opinions of Orion CRTs? I heard they have a softer more muted looking quality
It definitely is alright for its size and quality, orions are pretty average and same goes with their adjustability but it'll be definitely nice for what it is
This set has the best idea, put the inputs on the side rather in the back. way less hassle. Btw was the CRT damaged from before or was it cause of shipping?
why is it the least capable when it has svideo and still rgb. the kv-1311cr as you mentioned does not have svideo and has a tv tuner that effectively is useless now.

Congrats on the repair. That must have felt good to see it power up.
I've never seen a set with this aesthetic that also has RGB. That's cool.

Ayo. The latest P-0-Seventeen drop.
That side plug is awesome and the general design.
Oh my God, it's super beautiful!

i have the same with SCART

s-video looks amazing on a 13inch
Hi, can you show us the convergence grid on this PVM?
Can you make a video where you start all your CRTs at the same time and then shut down them at the same time?
I could for samsungs but it also might trip my circuit breaker LoL
jesus loves you bro. like the vids
you need to connect a PC to these CRTs you have and run PC games on them it'll attract many viewers since modern games look great on CRTs

It was damaged before shipping since I bought it as it was, but didn't know what the problem was before I opened it
where do u find this crts?

@@LanceHayabusa It's the least capable in adjustability compared to the kv-1311cr and the European brother the kx-14cp1
i've got a 1985
