DIY Off Road Camping Expedition Trailer Build 2019 - Part 2.2 SUSPENSION and TYRES. This build is from the ground up so what better place to start than with the wheels and tyres.
There are 3 main types of off road camping trailer, There has been a lot of research and decision making in choosing the design that im going with- for those of you 'in the know"- It will be a 10foot hard shell foxtail trailer made from composite sheet steel/foam core panels and a fully galvanised 3x2' chassis with coil over shock trailing A-arm suspension. Emphasis will be on storage space as i carry a lot of gold prospecting gear. 130watts of solar on the top and 120Ah lithium power cell will be powering simple led lighting and USB charge ports along with the small pump for the gold sluice. cooking and hot water and cabin heating will be provided by a selection of home made alcohol stove burners which swap about to provide heating cooking or hot water as needed. no gas bottles required. Water will be carried in 4x 5 gal jerry cans and a 20 gallon tank inside the body. The trailer will have its own creek suction and filtering system for filling tanks and wash down. There will be no built in stereo, no flat screen TV, gaming console, blue tooth air conditioning or ice maker. this is camping. Most of the body components are salvaged off cuts from bigger builds.
