The filter base consists of two plastic parts that snap together. Between these two parts is the locking/release mechanism and two springs. What happens most of the time is you used too much muscle inserting or removing the water filter and the back comes loose and a spring pops out. Before you spend $40 or $50 on a new one, inspect it and make sure it hasn't come apart. It's very easy to reassemble. That was the problem with mine and I fixed it myself.

Thanks John you just saved me time and money. You are right there are some tabs in the back that unsnapped, I just snapped them back in place and back in business. I notice a problem when I bought a aftermarket filter on Amazon made by Waterfallfilter it just never felt right when I installed it. I am sticking to Frigidaire for present and futute filters. Thanks again.

Do the springs sit on each end of the plastic, serrated nylon center part to keep it in the center, so the springs go in the round-cut area of the plastic housing? Mine was already opened up and one spring was out and the other was in the plastic housing standing straight up. I would imaging they go into the housing quite easily??? If anyone could help, it would be appreciated!

Happily will buy replacement part, then saw a comment about DIY to reassemble .....and it worked, tricky one of springs jumped out and landed somewhere in a tray far below mixed with some lemons and limes! Probably took me longer to find the screw, read comments, and reassemble. If it fails again, no problem will buy a new part from RepairClinic!

Did this easy fix. It works. Just removed the filter holder as shown and re assembled it. It worked after my disassembly and reassembly. GREAT VIDEO.

Thank you so much for this video. It is not the first one I have used to fix my fridge. I'm a retired (70 year old woman) and, although I am fairly handy I wouldn't have known where to begin. This fix was easy for anyone with the most basic tools.

Thanks!. Took filter out to get model number off of it to order new one and could not get it back in. Removed everything like video. Ended up being the plastic teeth on filter. Was easier to see what was going in outside of frig. If it slides easily it won't catch teeth inside the frig. Used pliers squeeze plastic to make tighter. Works great now. PS....water will not come out of tubes even with frig left plugged in.

This guy makes it look easy, my water lines inside the fridge don't have anything to grab onto to take them out. Took off the whole unit and still can't get the water lines disconnected.

Push up on the blue and pull the line out. Mine didn't have the little connector either.

One thing that is critical is that once you have the housing off, when you push it in to release, you have to LIFT UP on the front of the filter. That is the whole problem, the housing can prevent the filter from being lifted up in the front when removing. Hope this helps, it looks like many people have this problem with this fridge. My solution now that I've got it out is to leave the screw off of the housing, so I can just remove it easily.

I just replaced mine but was able to figure out why it failed in the first place.
On some FAKE filters that plastic lock in piece with the teeth is sort of loose, it will slide out of position. When it does this and you push in they don't line up and you end up pushing the back out of filter base. The back just snaps on, when I took it off i snapped it back in place and it still did not work. The culprit was the loose piece with the saw like teeth on the filter.
I had a new filter so just used that and it snapped in place. The bad one could be fixed if I silicon the teeth piece so it would not slide out of position.
I can't prove the new filter is a fake but the differences were.
    1. The fake filter had 2x the flow of the REAL one. Almost too good to be true flow, as if there was no filter inside it. Then you get max pressure.
    2. The center teeth portion was a different shade and much looser than the REAL filter.
So either frigidaire changed its specs or it was a very good fake. All the printer on the box and filter were the same are original.
Anyway before you order a new part, take it off (you don't need to pull the power, water does not fly all over) And see if you can't snap the back plate back into position. You can see the little plastic tabs that slide into slots. If you push the filter in too hard (and the teeth don't line up) it just pushes the backet out.
I'll just keep it as a spare part.

@@repairclinic I did get a part and the part is fine. I was discussing how to fix that part and why it fails in the first place. The culprit is the water filters. That plastic piece on the filter is not molded in but a pieced that slides on. Sometimes it does not align properly so when you push to insert the filter it does not go into the lock slot. When you push it puts force on the housing of the locking slot and it can snap out. Its a two piece part held together by plastic spring clips. I was able to press it back together. I had two Frigidaire water filters and one of them that locking piece was loose (it slides into place) and it would move when you tried to push in the filter to lock in. It would not lock in. The next push it would not be aligned because it moved, then it pops the backside of the part out of position so it will never lock with any filter.
I think the filters are built to poor tolerances plus there are very good fakes where that part is slightly different and looser than original. I compared a filter from Home depot to one off ebay. They looked 90 percent the same except the ebay filter had a loose locking piece, and it had better flow (means less filter media usually) .

Why would you want to replace this part? Does it affect water pressure when you use the water dispenser? I’ve noticed a drop in the pressure even after replacing the filter and checking the line for kinks

I have a Fridgidaire refridgerator with water and Ice dispenser. I have changed the Puresource 3 filter but had no idea about the filter base. Why does the filter base need to be replaced? When do you know that the filter needs replacing? The light turned from green to amber; will it turn red? In the video there was a Puresource filter not #3. Does that make a difference. Model #
FFHS2622MBPA Serial #4A50502360. Which filter do I need? ULTRAWF or WF3CB; there are several.

The water leaked out behind that water filteration system when I turned on the water valve below the kitchen sink after I’ve tried to get water from the water dispenser on the Frigidaire. Is this the reason why it leaked or something else?

Do you need to turn off the water supply before doing this? I don't think the video said. I'm not familiar with those type of fittings for the water supply, and want to make sure they don't start pouring everywhere.

@@JoshuaNelson0140 don't know if you already worked on it, but I ended up just going for it without turning off water anywhere. Some will spill, but it's not a live flow of water that won't stop.
