Hello y'all it seems I made a teeny tiny mistake! You cannot actually start as a fighter if you want your starting feat to be warcaster. HOWEVER, if you would still like to start as fighter you can always take the resilient feat at level 1 and get warcaster at a later level. You also could always start as a warlock and use the resilient feat to get the constitution proficiency at a later level. A small mistake, as this build is still entirely possible, however its worth mentioning.
Resilient would have to be used on a save like Wisdom or Dexterity, however, since Fighters are naturally proficient in Constitution saves. If anything, I'd recommend the Fighter-starter taking Skill Expert to buff your Charisma and gain expertise in Athletics. This way you can crowd control people with Shove and Grapple while you wait for Eldritch Blast to come online. (Or better yet, take Bludgeoner! A Dao Genie Warlock will get 5ft of forced movement in any direction due to dealing bludgeoning damage on their blast!)
Hey, ever thought of adding sentinel as a feat so you can get them as they come into your range (which you can set up as a wall) Ontop of that, if you can find a way for movement, you can also use your action to E blast to make an endless barrage of pushing power to obliterate their movement and keep sending them back until you start to combo them into a wall

As a Dao Genie, you also add proficiency bonus bludgeoning damage to one blast. If you set your dex to an odd number, you can take the Crusher feat just after maxing Cha, for +1 reflex TS, CA, Initiative, and the possibility of moving around further the opponents. Depending on the table, could be a nice option.
One problem, you can’t start as fighter vuman and get war caster. War caster prerequisite requires you have the ability to cast one spell which you won’t meet. You need to either take your first level in warlock or play a race that can cast a spell, but the latter will mean you can’t get war caster at lvl 1 (unless you play in a free feat game). (Also while I’m here I may as well mention that Crawford said the echo was intended to be an object so it’s not super up for debate)
Valid, in that case swap around to warlock and instead of using the resilient feat to get wisdom saving through proficiency, use it to get constitution 😎👍
Also fun: mystic arcanum are technically not spell slots (if it were, you could up cast your spells, but you can't). That means your simulacrum gets it back with a long rest. So you can then use wish to make infinite simulacrums on day 2, per RAW.
So make a simulacrum with wish. Wait til the next day. The mystic arcanum refreshes for both you and simulacrum because it isnt a spell slot. Simulacrum uses wish to cast sinulacrum on you. Making another Simulacrum who still has the 9th level mystic arcanum. Go infinite?

I made a way less optimized version of this with pole arm master, warcaster and pact of the blade. Basically cast darkness and move the enemy around inside of it while using either PAM or the Echo to proc reactions of booming blade depending on what I need. Didn't even think of using eldritch blast and spike growth. Now to change some things around and make my DM's eye twitch.
I had a version that was a Bugbear with Polearm Master and Sentinel. I didn’t know about Echo Knight at the time, so I used Cavalier. Vigilant Defender from 18 level Cavalier on a Polearm Master, Sentinel, Bugbear is so annoying. There was a time when we had to defend against a horde of goblins and not a single one got into range to make a melee attack at me.
Do remember that the echo is an object. And so most spells DO NOT affect it unless it specifically states that it affects objects. Which is like 4 spells.
If I were a DM having to deal with this kind of character, the solution I can think of is lots of minions. You can only use your reaction once, and if there are 5 guys coming, atleast one will get past. Granted the spike growth is a pain in the butt, but unlike plant growth, spike growth can be dispelled.
I like the build, but I would add Polarm Master. Using the genie vessel as a spellcasting focus (ring is my favorite), warcaster to negate need for somatic gestures, you need only hold a glaive or other appropriate weapon to ensure that no one enters your space. If you're feeling extra mean, add Sentinel. Feel free to bounce back and stop anyone entering your space dead in their tracks, then hit then next closest guy using Lance of Lethargy and Repelling blast. Stop one entirely and limit the others movement, while pushing both back? Brilliant. Then bonus action to summon your echo, move it (which costs no action to you) behind the enemies, and now they either hit it, or you hit them. Can't touch this.
Seems like an interesting AOE Control build. I can get behind it. Level 6 non-concentration Flight + Grasp of Hadar seems like it was made for this build. On the Dao's expanded spell list: Meld into Stone is ok, in practice, but Plant Growth at 3rd level would have been uber bonkers to have, in order to pair with Spike Growth. If WOTC were kind enough to let us have Plant Growth, instead of Meld Into Stone (something of which is a bit situational), I'd play this genie variant. For now though, I'll just sit here happily with an Efreeti build and toss Fireballs at passing idiots, while flying around like a bat drunk on absinthe. (For The Fireball.)
Another fun addition: 1. Use summon greater demon to summon a Dybbuk 2. Use wish to planar bind the Dybbuk 3. Wait a day and let your simulacrum summon a Dybbuk and use wish to planar bind the 2nd one Dybbuks can cast dimension door at will. Have fun getting your dybbuks to reposition you and your simulacrum every turn and blasting enemies into spike growth / sickening radiance / maddening darkness from both sides. Also, both genielocks and dybbuks can fly and hover. If an enemy is flying away - no worries, just DD above and blast them down.
Gloomstalker, Shadow Monk, Fighter build. Varient Human with Eldritch Adept and Devils sight. You can cast darkness you can see through and others can't. Make 3 attacks with advantage and some extra damage, then attack two more time with your bonus action, maybe stunning a creature and then you run 50 feet straight up the side of a building for shits and giggles with your movement.
Wishing for Find Greater Steed can give you some more meat shields to put places where you don't want your opponent to go. They are easy to kill at this level, but any turn not spend attacking you is a win.
IMO there is another option to build this - Echo Knight 3 / Warlock 2 (Blade) / Shadow Sorc - this allows for Polearm Master / Sentinel Shenanigans and Darkness (very funny around the Echo). The huge weakness is the lack of wish and generally high lvl spells, but the cool things are metamagic, shadow magic..

I think you can't cast spells through the echo, I think the war caster lets you cast a cantrip instead of making an opportunity attack. So instead of making an opportunity attack you cast a spell through yourself. I think you can see through the echoes senses so spells that specifically require line of sight could be triggered by the echo seeing them even if you can't see it. Really I think all of this echo Knight bs just depends on your DM and how they decide to rule it
I know for a fact that this build annoyed my DM because he suddenly allowed a Giant Ape to Dash and the. leap some 50 ft to get into melee range of my character after 3-4 rounds of getting Eldritch Blast’d again a wall 90 ft away 😂
I have a Ancestral Guardians Barbarian build who will make regular use of the Maul + Crusher feat for pushing enemies around... Good for control and damage. Not anything crazy but I think it will be fun if I ever get the chance to play him. Also fun dwarf name I created by accident for this build: Yholic. It just sounds fun 😄
Wish is also a good buff and get out of jail free card using the listed effects in the spell description. Additionally, you can strait up shut down an opponent.
yeah, ghostlance sounds amazing and incredible but my friend group is way more casual, I don't think anyone except me could account for or have fun with this pc in a game. Still, I really want to try it some day
Why does Eldritch blast cast by a reaction attack from the echo force the opponents away from you? The reaction attack wouldn’t happen until they had past the echos which means they get blasted towards you don’t they?
Curiouse question... but would the sentinel feat be relevant to this build. Considering if you make an attack of opportunity while having the feat you initially stop the enemy in their tracks... and it diesnt state it needs to be melee... only from the attack of opertunity... as well as if they try to disengage you still get the attack of opportunity...🤔

You make this choice for each attack.” Other possible issues Echo knight “When a creature that you can see within 5 feet of your echo moves at least 5 feet away from it, you can use your reaction to make an opportunity attack against that creature as if you were in the echo’s space.” War Caster “When a hostile creature's movement provokes an opportunity attack from you, you can use your reaction to cast a spell at the creature, rather than making an opportunity attack. The spell must have a casting time of 1 action and must target only that creature.” It could be argued that the war caster ability to cast a spell instead of attacking does not combine with the Echo knight. Just because you can use your reaction from the echo knight does not mean that Someone has moved within 5 feet of of the character. The question is does the echo count as you for the war caster. I think rules as intended you should be able to use your reaction to cast a spell but rules as written there is a question. If you went wild with this character the GM might put an end to it. As always mad respect for you and and that beautiful lizard.

That is not how that works. The opportunity attack would only originate from the echo’s position if it was a melee attack, spells cannot originate from the Echos position. If it did that would actually make it more broke

I would still argue due to the clause at the end of the echo knight ability saying "as if you were in the echo's space" that it could be ruled that you could only take a melee attack with that action, or that for that reaction an exception to the echo not casting spells would be made to have it cast from it's space. The former would break the reason the player may have made the build for, and the latter would undermine the echo not using spells but could result in some interesting new strategies on the player's end. While the way you describe using this build in the video fits with the rules as written, the intention of the opportunity attack effectively made by your echo seems to fall apart when mixed with war caster. I'm not certain if clarification has been given on this because I don't keep up to date on the places where the writers would post much of this, but barring that, I would choose to let opportunity attack reaction spells and only those come from the echo.
So the phylactery of this build is the 3 levels in fighter and the 2 in warlock. That gives 15 levels to play around with. For sure cheese grater is a good build, but maybe you Swiss, and not sharp cheddar. Play around with it, make it your own.
Would this be worth using without the simulacrum? I've seen several variations of this and i like the overall concept but my DM doesnt like playing around simulacrum, clone, etc.
thats standard. The PHB says "on hit, you can knock the creature back ten feet". As opposed to lance of lethargy which specifies it can only be activated once per turn.
How are you dual classing as eccoknight and warlock at lvl 5 and getting your second beam? Last I checked you would have to be 8th lvl minimum to do this.
Wouldn't the reaction from you echo using eldritch blast be at disadvantage because it's still within 5 feet? Your sword doesn't magically grow to a 10 foot reach when you make a melee reaction
My question is, on the topic of having yur simulacrum use limited wish, wouldn't you and simulacrum both have to do a 1D4+1 if you both used it and potentially you and the simulacrum could then have different timeframes to wait,but wouldn't that still not mean every day? Maybe I'm looking at this wrong (and I hope I am because that's broken and I'm GUNNA use it if I'm wrong)
Stop at level 2 fighter, hit level 4 warlock for the Charisma bump, take all the levels in sorcerer for Quickened spell. Eldritch blast as an action, action surge eldritch blast as an action, bonus action eldritch blast each beam for 10 more feet of get the fuck away from me. If range becomes an issue a 1 more level dip into warlock for eldritch spear, but at that point, you should be bullying ancient dragons for their lunch money.
Damn, that's just objectively worse at early levels and in no way unique! Good job! You have one extra eldritch blast per 2 levels of sorcerer per day (unless you want to burn all your spell slots), whereas this build has unlimited extra blasts.
Warcaster specifies “targets only one creature” this is different from a feature like twinned spell which says “CAN target only one creature”, therefore, as long as every beam targets the same creature you can use Eldritch blast as a reaction

lmao, lockdown one melee target and we need to assume the attack will hit is just too much to consider reliable. Eldritch blast already has good range, repelling blast ignores sizes, mixing them with metamagic while having good pacing and it will be way more reliable than whatever Echo nonsense this is
Another variant: Echo 3 / Dao 2 / Aberrant Mind 15. Take Quicken, and you can Dissonant Whispers in-between your EB's to force the enemy to use their own reaction to run away from you in addition to using your own reaction and action to shove them further and further away. You can also snort coffee if you like lol EDIT: and with War Caster, you can actually use the spells as either reactions or bonus actions to flavor.
Warcaster DOES NOT work with echos. "When a hostile creature's movement provokes an opportunity attack from you" is what warcaster needs, the echo is not you. Its the same reason you cannot warcaster with Polearm Master feat
Also,I think you could successfully argue that since you are casting a spell as your opportunity attack as if you were in the echoes space, you would have disadvantage with eldritch blast and repel the creature towards your main body. I do also think it could be successfully argued to work the way you say it does. Interesting idea all around.

If your starting fighter might as well grab sentinel first since your going echo knight anyways and it's going to really come into play at level 3

I was jamming out to Meta Knight da Bess today while thinking about people complaining about broken dnd characters

I'm convinced the warlock is the best class for manipulating enemy movement until late game.

Me and my buddy had a 3 day long txt chain a couple weeks ago about this, just nerding out over the possibilities.

hmm, repelling blast says "away from _you_" and not away from the origin of the eldritch blast, so I guess it checks out

Instead of tough, you should take pole arm master, since they'll allow you to attack people that approach you, even if they bypass your echo.

I believe he is casting it from his actual characters position, not the echos position
the eldritch blast is not cast from the echos position as the echo cannot have spells cast through it (trust me it would get worse if it could)

While the way you describe using this build in the video fits with the rules as written, the intention of the opportunity attack effectively made by your echo seems to fall apart when mixed with war caster. I'm not certain if clarification has been given on this because I don't keep up to date on the places where the writers would post much of this, but barring that, I would choose to let opportunity attack reaction spells and only those come from the echo.
So the phylactery of this build is the 3 levels in fighter and the 2 in warlock.
That gives 15 levels to play around with. For sure cheese grater is a good build, but maybe you Swiss, and not sharp cheddar. Play around with it, make it your own.
I would like to see how a one shot would be handled with all of the most annoying builds, thus creating the theoretical most annoying party.

Would this be worth using without the simulacrum? I've seen several variations of this and i like the overall concept but my DM doesnt like playing around simulacrum, clone, etc.

thats standard. The PHB says "on hit, you can knock the creature back ten feet". As opposed to lance of lethargy which specifies it can only be activated once per turn.
How are you dual classing as eccoknight and warlock at lvl 5 and getting your second beam? Last I checked you would have to be 8th lvl minimum to do this.
Cantrips level up with overall character level, not class level
Wouldn't the reaction from you echo using eldritch blast be at disadvantage because it's still within 5 feet? Your sword doesn't magically grow to a 10 foot reach when you make a melee reaction
Your echo isn’t casting Eldritch blast, you are. The echo just triggers the opportunity attack

How are you getting Spike Growth? Are you using Limited Wish to cast a level 2 Druid spell?

My question is, on the topic of having yur simulacrum use limited wish, wouldn't you and simulacrum both have to do a 1D4+1 if you both used it and potentially you and the simulacrum could then have different timeframes to wait,but wouldn't that still not mean every day?

You yourself never use your limited wish, meaning only your simulacrum ever casts it, meaning they are the ones who expend the resource, not yourself

Stop at level 2 fighter, hit level 4 warlock for the Charisma bump, take all the levels in sorcerer for Quickened spell. Eldritch blast as an action, action surge eldritch blast as an action, bonus action eldritch blast each beam for 10 more feet of get the fuck away from me. If range becomes an issue a 1 more level dip into warlock for eldritch spear, but at that point, you should be bullying ancient dragons for their lunch money.

You have one extra eldritch blast per 2 levels of sorcerer per day (unless you want to burn all your spell slots), whereas this build has unlimited extra blasts.

Warcaster specifies “targets only one creature” this is different from a feature like twinned spell which says “CAN target only one creature”, therefore, as long as every beam targets the same creature you can use Eldritch blast as a reaction

lmao, lockdown one melee target and we need to assume the attack will hit is just too much to consider reliable. Eldritch blast already has good range, repelling blast ignores sizes, mixing them with metamagic while having good pacing and it will be way more reliable than whatever Echo nonsense this is
Another variant: Echo 3 / Dao 2 / Aberrant Mind 15. Take Quicken, and you can Dissonant Whispers in-between your EB's to force the enemy to use their own reaction to run away from you in addition to using your own reaction and action to shove them further and further away. You can also snort coffee if you like lol
EDIT: and with War Caster, you can actually use the spells as either reactions or bonus actions to flavor.

Warcaster DOES NOT work with echos.
"When a hostile creature's movement provokes an opportunity attack from you"
is what warcaster needs, the echo is not you. Its the same reason you cannot warcaster with Polearm Master feat
Nope, the echo Knight says "you can use your reaction to make an opportunity attack"
Build doesn't work at level 5 unless you start as warlock. You can't take Worcester unless you can cast spells.
Also,I think you could successfully argue that since you are casting a spell as your opportunity attack as if you were in the echoes space, you would have disadvantage with eldritch blast and repel the creature towards your main body.
I do also think it could be successfully argued to work the way you say it does.
