My only buying regret was all the cheaper watches I bought to scratch an itch instead of waiting and saving for the bigger purchase that I really wanted.
Yeah alot of new collectors hate quartz because they think they have to like it's to be expected and probably read that stupid quartz movement's have no soul analogy somewhere lol. I collect both autos and quartz there's just more to enjoy when your into both. Also quartz analog movement's have plenty of mechanical moving parts so there's that some of my favorite watches ever made are quartz like my Heuer Coral 980 026, Heuer 981.006 and my Seiko Tuna Marine master Ninja SBBN035 with the Legendary 7C46 high torque movement
When I first started getting into watches, I purchases a whole slew of Invicta watches. So, as you can imagine, the regret I now feel after learning more about what quality timepieces actually are, is self-explanatory.
When did u get into watches? Back then(2007ish to 2014ish) was Invictas hey day. Solid watches for the price. Stupid sales tactics? Yeah. Where else could you get a Swiss Made COSC diver for $500? Invicta is a joke now. I agree I’ve been a watch enthusiast for half of my life(I’m 42). Brand bashing for the sake of getting kudos on social media is fucking stupid. I was never afraid to admit that I liked Invicta and Tag Heuer back then. Ohh, but it’s cool to like Heuer now because Nico says so…
Its wild that you paid $1100 usd in 2007 for a quartz Classima. I bought the same watch in leather last year 2nd hand for $280 cad or $200 usd!!! Insane!
My regret: Tudor Black Bay GMT. Tudor in general, isn't for me. Flipped and replaced with a Seamaster Planet Ocean, which has been my absolute favorite watch of all time.
Great video. I regret buying a watch which I believe you also owned: the PRX Chrono. Much like the quartz Baume & Mercier you bought, I thought it would scratch an itch but it never did.
It how we learn in this game. I've been collecting since high school in the 70's. Just got my school watch a Swiss Sentinel fully restored was a gift from my dad. It wears well for a 34mm due to the case design, pretty cool movement too as it hacks and has quick set on the date.
My regret: My first (high end Swiss watch: $2000? lol) I purchased in 1998 a 18K gold Movado 1881 automatic 35 mm. Its a beautiful watch white classic dial with fantastic lugs- and I still like it...But the purchase was before I was connected into the watch community- I could have purchased a steel Rolex. I still love it because she was my first ;^). 35mm is a small watch for today's fashion. Wasn't considered small back in those days. I will never sell it, it was the beginning of the journey.
Call me crazy, but I regretted getting the GS White Birch. Can never get a perfect fit on the bracelet, and what’s more, it felt unnecessarily heavy for its case size. I always thought the lack of loom was no big deal, but not being to properly see the time without much light didn’t seem that much of a good trade off regardless of its remarkable Japanese finishing. Sold it for a rather big loss and hope the IWC Pilots Watch Mark XX will be better for me.
My biggest regret so far in my watch journey was buying a Seiko SKX. When I bought it I didn't really have enough knowledge or appreciation for the lug-to-lug dimension, and I have 8"+ circumference wrists. I loved the watch, but it looked awful on me. I ended up selling it to another watch geek and it fits him really well. I'm so glad it found a good home and it will be enjoyed. I have also learned a really good lesson about watch sizing. Win-win!!
Kudos to Fed for actually listing the watches….very often these type of headlines then feature a bunch of situations rather than actual watches….i.e: ‘watches I regret buying’….’the watch other people think is cool’…’the watch you go in debt for.’….’the watch you bought as a his and hers with someone you are no longer with..’ …etc.
@@StanjaraI’ve actually had a lot of success doing this. It keeps my zelos HH2 in place and that’s much heavier than the seiko. I only speak from experience.
I mainly came through Omega marketing into the hobby. That's cool with me. Yet, the actusl products? Speedy is neat. But the PO? Bezel had play after two years, no crown guards, clasp opened itself during a dive.. better off with a Tudor FXD
Great video. The next one should be your biggest regrets that you sold in the past. I'm new into watches but been learning from videos like yours. I'm into higher end audio and I know that I have had a few audio components in the past that I wish I had back today.
I feel for you. Is a piece of garbage. Almost made the same mistake. 3 main reasons behind my decision: First, realizing that MB&f sells $70K watches with a Sellita movement helps you understand that MAD 1 has zero value. Second, it is unwearable. And finally, but most importantly I overhears Max Brusser talking privately to someone at his store while unaware that I was behind the column. He has no rrspect or even cares for the artists who privide products that he displatys in his boutique. They sounded as disposable and worthless people that he is just using to get attention on his otherwise underwhelming machines. In short he is the opposite of the nice and caring person he portrays to be.
I don't think the Baume & Mercier is a regrettable watch as much as it's not a good choice to buy retail. Beautiful quartz dress pieces like that definitely have a well-deserved place. We've all goofed up and overpaid before. The piece I overpaid most for is still a wonderful watch, the problem was me.
Thanks for sharing! Have you tried a stretchy parachute strap with your Seiko diver? Or a bracelet to help balance it out? Both of those setups help when I wear heavy watches.
Your baby tuna is probably top heavy because it's on a nylon strap. I think it really needs that thicker heavy rubber strap designed for it, to balance it out. I was quite surprised by how much the incorrect rubber strap impacts a Seiko diver - even among different rubber strap types. Could be worth trying a few more different ones before you sell it.
I have a solution for you for that Casio go to Zulu diver they have rubber nato straps. The rubber strap from the NATO will keep it from moving around because it’s a NATO you’ll have rubber underneath the watch.
You bought the wrong tuna, 300m quartz Marinemaster tuna wears alot smaller and is a much nicer watch or the titanium 1000m quartz tuna. If go up the range the 600m springdrive is amazing and titanium, even the 1000m auto emperor tuna wears smaller than the one you have. I have had a different colour variation of the one you have so talk from experience.
The Legendary 7C46 high torque movement is just amazing. It's definitely one of Seikos finest hours it was way ahead of it's time. I also have the SBBN035 Ninja and it's extremely comfortable on the wrist. There's just something super cool about the 7C46 and being exclusive for just the Tunas but wouldn't mind a 55th anniversary automatic Grandfather tuna aswell to pair with the Ninja
@lonewolfemcquade8133 I owned the sla041 for abit, also had sbdx011 auto, sbdx016 cermet auto and sbbn040...wish I had kept all of them currently just have sbbn031, sbbn025, sbdb013, sbdx014 which is basically one of each type - 300m and 1000m quartz, 600m spring drive, 1000m auto
My biggest regret is to buy a solid yellow gold sub with the blue dial in the AD with the retail price , thinking that I will be getting the steel Daytona soon ! I’m still waiting! 😤
I regret the spray and pray method of collecting/hoarding without any direction. Lots of stuff from eBay, Reddit, etc and a bunch of cheap vintage that is too small or unwearable or not working. They aren’t worth more than scrap value and I feel like a knob for even contemplating that fate for them. Adding up all of those mistakes, I’d have 2-3k over the years
If I would invest all of the money I spend on watches in bit coin, today I would buy that banana duct taped to wall but I think watches will still be more fun haha.
Mole skin patch under the watch creates hidden friction and that should restrict the watch turning over and not visible….use it on ultra thin watches that try to do the same…
I have always admired the Speedmaster Professional but was hesitant due to the price and manual movement. I already had a Seamaster and I wondered if getting another Omega made sense rather than venturing out for something totally different. Also, I like functionality and as such prefer a clean day date when I can find one. Finally after years of hemming and hawing bought a 2023 prestige mint condition box and papers for around $4k. Although 8I love how it looks and don’t “regret” buying it, I find manual winding quite annoying. Even the seamaster only goes a couple days before needing to be held.
Just by looking at the stock photo you had for Seiko Diver, it did not look massive. But seeing it on your wrist, or just about ANYBODY'S wrist, looks MASSIVE.
Now now, the Invicta Pro Diver with the Seiko auto has brought in a lot of non-watch people into the hobby. A lot of luxury watch sales have resulted from those early Invicta purchases. I keep my $90 Pro Diver next to my Red Letter Sea-Dweller as a reminder of how I got interested in these watches.

I regret every watch I've ever bought.
But the next one will be perfect.
Aint that the truth.
Any watch collector who says they have no regrets isn't a watch collector. We're always chasing!

Try a rubber strap with deployant clasp. That will help the seiko from sliding around as the clasp will stay on the inside of the wrist.🍻
