Do you have a left handed version of this video? If you are left handed, you can convert ANY video on RUclips yourself! Simply go to www.mirrorthevideo.com/ and follow the instructions to mirror flip any video to convert to left handed!
How much yarn will I need? This is a very tricky question to answer as there are so many variables! How much yarn you need will depend on which yarn you choose, the thickness of that yarn, your tension and how large you want your finished project to be. I suggest making a small sample first so you can gauge how much yarn you'll need. If making a crochet square, you can weigh your finished square to work out how much yarn it used!
How many squares do I need for a blanket? That all depends on the size of the square you are making and how big you want your finished blanket to be! I always advise making one square first then measuring the size of it. From there you can work out how many squares you will need to get the blanket size you want 😀
Do you have the written pattern? Yes! I have written patterns to accompany my video tutorials on my website here: www.hookedbyrobin.com The written pattern is generally released a week or so after the video tutorial to ensure there are no errors in the video itself and to make amendments in the written version if any are found. All the written patterns are FREE to access on my website
How can I print the pattern from your website? Do you have downloadable PDF's? Not at this time no. This may change in the future but for now, I only provide the written pattern directly on my website.
Can you remake this video so it is slower? If the video speed is too fast, you can slow it down! 😀 See this video on exactly how: • How to Adjust the Spee...
Why do you use American stitch terminology? I learnt using USA stitch terms, long before I even knew there was a difference between UK & US terminology! American terms are my "first language" so to speak. If you need a conversion chart, I have one here! www.hookedbyrobin.com/crochet...

Robin, you are amazing. I have a terminal illness which makes me home bound, and when I happened upon your tutorials, I cannot tell you the joy I’ve experienced. Your voice, your upbeat attitude and the quality of your instruction and stitch work are amazing. Thank you so much. God bless you.
I am so pleased for you that you get so much enjoyment from Robin, I am sorry to hear what You are going through, I wish you many hours of enjoying your craft. 🥰
I hope you're doing ok?
Hello Robin! Thank you so much for the video! Just want to let you know (or if it turns out you do know, anyone reading this) that by doing a 2dc, 1tr, 2dc in the corner stitch you can make a 100% solid square!
Thanks for that suggestion. I wanted to make one tight that my granddaughter couldn’t easily stick her fingers through. I made this, then added a US triple edging around the entire border and then a shell border of 5 dbc all around, added an Elmo soft topper in the middle, turned out to be an adorable lovey. Can’t wait to give it to her tomorrow. Thanks for all of your assistance ladies.🙂
This stitch makes a lovely, nearly hole free baby blanket... Your instructions are so clear... Thanks!
And... Yes... Your nails are always beautifully done!
Thanks for the amazing video. I have gone through many videos for this solid granny square but this one is completley satisfactory, very neat & very well explained.

I watched this video months ago, but saved it for future use. I'm going to use this to try and make a temperature blanket this year 😊
Hi Robin, Your tutorials are awesome. I'm sorry to say, I didn't believe you about the beginning CH2 for the DC, but I tried it because your squares are so beautiful. It looks so much better, I'm glad I followed your instructions. Camille
I have watched over 6 different videos on this, not happy with the results until your version. I like the CH 2 instead of CH 3. It looks very clean! Thanks for sharing and posting

You’re welcome Rebecca!😃
I ordered one of each color scheme in the Boho Spirit and got them in the mail today. THEY ARE GORGEOUS! So soft also! I can't wait to start on this pattern. 😍
Amazing yarn isn't it? I ADORE the Boho! 😍
@@HookedbyRobin yes! What size book do you use with it? I used a 4 mm but the hexes turned out small and I did 7 rounds. Thanks!
@@rebeccamiller8104 I used a 4.5mm hook - you can go bigger if you want! Sometimes I use a 5mm or even a 5.5mm :D
@@HookedbyRobin thank you! 🤗
Tnk u so much for making this so easy to understand ur a star ❤❤❤
My pleasure 😊
Hello Robin, I absolutely love all of your crochet videos 💕
Just wondering if you could do a tutorial with this stitch (and lots of others..😅) in a rectangle instead of a square please💖 my silly mind isn’t managing to figure out how to do them in a rectangle instead of top to bottom or instead of a square..😅
Thank you for all that you do Robin, you have no idea how appreciated your work is 🥰💖
Hi Angel, I have this one currently on my channel if that helps? ruclips.net/video/pJxU8B5feOc/видео.html
Thank you so much for your kind words too.😃🥰
I have never seen a granny square that has started by a magic circle. I love it. If i could manage a magic ring......lol. But i adore this!
You can substitute the magic ring for chains - I'm just a sucker for the magic ring so use it for everything 😂
@@HookedbyRobin i love the magic ring also. It makes projects look so much neater when you start with one. But they hate me. I have been crocheting about 7 years and it has defeated me since day one. 😔 but one day it will just click. I hope. 😊
@@gothgurl2809 have you tried my video? ruclips.net/video/qqOQR-49CxE/видео.html
gothgurl2809 - I could not do them either but DO check out Robin's video and it becomes very easy
I prefer magic ring for my projects that has a center hole. It makes it look very neat.
Love your nails!
Could you make a solid rectangle granny square video tutorial? You do amazing work and I love your tutorials 💖
Thank you for another great video, the colour of the yarn is beautiful, would love to know how you joined the solid granny squares, I'm really looking forward to your next tutorial on how to join as you go for solid grannies. I only know how to join them using the single crochet method and I'm really pleased that I finally managed to learn the continuous join as go you method from you video. I'm looking forward to your next video on how to join a solid granny.
I crochet joined them - the video for how I joined them will be on my channel next friday 👍 x
I am rubbish at sewing so always like to try and crochet join where I can! 😂
Thank you!
You are very welcome! :-)
Thank you!!
You’re welcome Rebecca! 🥰🤗
Execellent 😊
Thank you so much Nenita!🥰🧶
Thank you
You are very welcome! 😃
Thanks
Thank you so much for the support Susi!🥰🤗
Nailed it again Robin with your tutorials 👍. I can always crochet straight along with your tutorials with no problems. Is it weird that I sctually prefer doing this version of a Granny Square (maybe if I did a big version I might change my mind with the extra stitches though lol) The look is more aesthetically pleasing to me too. How do you make crocheting anything so much easier 😊❤
Magic Katie!😃 I am not sure to be honest? I just really enjoy teaching and making it easy for everyone else to be able to crochet.
Ich mache daraus eine Tasche. Danke für das video
Vielen Dank Monika! 🥰🧶
I go have one more tiny request for down the road. I am wanting to make a memory photo quilt for my brothers wedding anniversary in December of 2020. I have fervently searched the utube channels and found zip. If you could demonstrate how to take a piece of fabric and make a granny square edge on it to attach to your other squares (not the joking part), but how to prepare your edges, to crochet around them granny style I sure would appreciate it. I seen one where there was the regular granny squares attached together but throughout the afghan was disbursed photo squares. Some lady made it for her mother, when she lost a son. Very moving. I tried to get in touch but never heard back. So thank you for all you do.
Hi Robin,
I'm thinking of using this pattern to make a temperature blanket for 2023 and I'm wanting to do the daily high and low temp shown on one square so I'm just wondering where the best place to change yarn colours would be? Perhaps in the same place as your "absolute beginner" granny square tutorial?
Thanks so much for your tutorials, I used your moss stitch one for my 2022 temperature blanket (which I started in October haha) and I've found them all supremely helpful!
I think you did a tutorial on crocheting 2 rows at a time. If so wld you repeat it as I can't find it now. Thank you in advance. I enjoy your tutorials. You are very easy to follow.
Hiya Shirley! The video you're looking for is here 😀🧶 ruclips.net/video/1zgXqwpcUj0/видео.html
Just have to say thank you! ☺️ Also, I feel you on the cat hair in the crochet thing 😂.
Oh yes, I meant to ask you if there's a written pattern for this? That probably sounds silly because it's so simple, but it helps me get started. I looked on your website, and I couldn't find it.
Always cat hair in the crochet still!😂 I’m afraid I don’t have a written pattern for this one Jillian.
@@HookedbyRobin Thank you Robin! I appreciate it. 😺
I love your videos! Can you do the mitered granny with this closed granny square?
i like it
Thank you Frank!😃
I just love this blanket you are making. Can you share the size of the blanket and how many yards of yarn you used? Thanks.
This was an awesome video! Chaining 2 for next row is the trick (instead of 3). Question, when you join at the end of the row, it looks as if you only catch the back loop of the top of the 2nd chain (rather than picking up the entire ‘V’). Is that what u r doing? Thank you!
The more watch this video, I think I should start using #3 dk instead of worsted #4 it looks so much tidier and finished better
Hi, did you make the video on connecting 3 across and three down, the other granny square one you showed it that way very very helping. I need to know how to do these the same way, going to start on some squares but need more clarification. I Appreciate how much you do for the crochet community and I know the work that goes into it and I thank you from the bottom of my heart
I did a continous one if that helps? :-) ruclips.net/video/GfhzYIWDxY0/видео.html
Hooked by Robin oh I forgot ty so much
Just wondering if you could use the solid method on a hexagon? I love both looks and would love to combine them somehow
The 50
/50 granny square would the connect the squares for the solid granny work,
Yes absolutely! I have been chatting to @blossomcrochet about filming a join as you go video for her 50/50 granny squares and this is the technique I would use for the solid sides :-)
Beautiful square, Robin. And omg, your nails are just amazing with that blue.
I'm looking for something. I bought a pattern from lillabjorncrochet. The Nya Mosiac blanket. But I only want a constant repeat of the geometry part within the pattern. Been trying to figure it out for days. Do you happen to know if there is anywhere on your travels you have seen just the geometry repeating part of that pattern? Yes, I realize I'm picky and specific...lol. Just wondering if maybe you have come across it where I haven't seen it.
Lol! I love picky and specific questions don't worry! I've not seen that pattern before so I'll have to Google it - bear with me whilst I look it up 👌
Ok so I'm guessing you don't want the 2 rows of green sc at the top and want to continue with blue/ green? Like in her blog here? www.lillabjorncrochet.com/2017/07/nya-mosaic-blanket-free-crochet-pattern.html
No divider sections?
So, rather new to your videos, but couldnt help but wonder, what if the yarn i am using calls for a 5.5 crochet hook? Do I follow what my yarn says or go with what you are using?
Use the recommended hook size on your chosen yarn ball!😃
Hi Robin do you turn your work after each row?
My first project . I want to change color . Do you have a change color solid granny square tutorial?
Just to clarify, if I want to change colours each row, should I slip st in the ch 2 or the corner?
Thank you for thanking your time to make and post this tutorial, truly. But..I'm a beginner crocheting, I've been looking for a tutorial of a solid, no holes granny square for a baby blanket. I wanted to say that you're going too fast for this to be a beginner video, you should tell us how many double crochet you end up with on each roll as well. I'm very sorry I don't want to come across rude or disrespectful😔 but I'm a beginner is my take on the tutorial. I was able to do it because I pause the video to count each roll myself. But sadly I can't used it because it has holes. I might use it for my 11 yr old daughter that wants a blanket as well, the holes are small so I don't think it'll be a problem for her. Thanks again👋🏼
If the video speed is too fast, you can slow it down! See this video on exactly how: ruclips.net/video/LIRYwkkI_4Y/видео.html
As for looking for a granny square with no holes, I'm not sure you will find one that is truly "hole less" as the double crochet stitch is quite gappy. You may find a single crochet square worked in rows is better? It will be slower to crochet up though :-)
Do you have a tutorial for turning your work on a solid GS? I can't find anything and my squares keep twisting.
How much yarn so I need for the Solid Grammy Aquarell from crofters for a King Site throw ?
Oooh good question! I'm not sure I can answer it to be honest - I'd suggest maybe seeing how many squares you get out of one ball? They aren't very big, I've got a fair few squares out of one ball but I'd imagine you would probably need a LOT 🤔 I've got 5 balls and think I'll probably get a lap sized blanket out of it x
I love granny square. Just finish an infinity granny blanket. What link do I send to you for a pic?

@@HookedbyRobin idont have Facebook is there another link?
Unfortunately RUclips doesn’t allow pictures in the comments. Do you have Instagram? I have an account on there too!😃
what kind of yare are you using? and where might I get some??? thank you
Hi Robin. you still have a loop on your hook at the end of your video, how do i finish the square?
Beautiful.. I m working a gift for my mother... Can you please explain how to end.. after I m done..
Hi robin started learning how to crochet from a friend who can crochet but want to learn with her and asking you i am. On the second part doing the granny square but not sure if i am on the second part of the square and also.my wool. Has tangled and joined in pieces would i be best to start again. Qith new wool
Hi Maureen, apologies for only just seeing your comment. Did you manage to sort this out?😃🧶
Robin where can I get the written instructions for the solid granny square? Can I purchase it? let me know...
Does this granny stitch use a lot of yarn?
Hi
I am using your videos to learn your solid granny squares and have a question for you.
I find that, even when using the same brand and yarn weight for each square, the thickness of the yarn seems to vary greatly depending on colour and that my squares are not working up to the same sizes as a result. How do you deal with that problem?
hmm that is frustrating when brands have slight variations in thickness with their colours! OK so, I have a couple of options that I would plump for - first option: don't worry about it! If it isn't a huge difference then you probably won't even notice once they are joined and in their final blanket form. Life is too short to worry about perfection! (This would be my preferring option because I am all about laziness haha!)
OR, if it is really bothering you or the difference is massive, you can go for option 2 which would be to block your squares. Pin them out and spritz them with water and let them dry. You can stretch the slightly smaller ones up to size that way.
There is also option 3 which would be to go for a join which is very forgiving. Something like a flat braid join which is a lacy chain type join which would mean that any size differences would be minimal to the eye.
I hope all that makes sense! 😀
Hooked by Robin thank you so much for your suggestions. I just bought a steamer the other day so will try that first. Don’t know why that didn’t occur to me...beginner brain here.lol
The difference in size is quite obvious, especially if using different brands of 4 medium US yarns.
I will also go learn the flat braid join.
Love your tutorials...they are so perfect for me. I love the way you talk us through the project. Thanks so much for everything.
Hey! I've just finished making this, mines come out a little wobbly? It doesn't lay perfectly flat? Is there any way to correct this?
Can you make a blanket size with this pattern?
Does it have to start with a magic ring? I cannot get my head round it!!
No, not at all! You can start with chains and slip stitching to create a ring 👍
Hi Robin I can't find this on your website so I can print the pdf out please cab you help
Hi Zoe, I’m afraid I don’t have a written pattern for this yet.🙂
Oh ok I just really need a written pattern to follow
How many skeins of the Crofters would it take to make a baby blanket 36 by 36 either with multiple squares or one big square? What about a larger afghan either multiple squares or ome big sguare? I will watch for an answer.
Did you use Snuggly DK.weight or Snuggly Baby weight.? Would 20 skeins be enough or too much? I am thimking of trying to use a 4.5 or 5 crochet hook if possible. I tend to have tight tension
How does that affect how much yarn I woild need? I don't want to run out of yarn.
How do you keep your center from twisting
I can’t get the video to play. I’ve watched several of yours just fine. This one is black screen. Anyone know how to fix this?
Hi, do you still have this problem? 🤗 x
