No one will ever match Levon. That being said, this is a great version.
Levon Lives🤘🏽🙏🏽
....and Robbie, Garth, Richard, and Rick as well.
Si, pero hay Tanya Tucker
Levon was the man, an Charlies' killing it, but those slides are tearin it up as well. Just what would happen if Rossington, and Derrick stepped on the stage with these guys! It would be biblical!
Second That!!
Becoming a bigger Blackberry Smoke fan with every song. They are on my list to see live.
Amazing band live. I've only seen them twice, but both times were fantastic. Energy in the crowd and from the band was great, everyone acted like it was a big family reunion.
You’ll see them one time and that’s all it will take. You’ll never miss them again
Well just paid 15 bucks to see em Oct 14 in Conroe Tx Crawfish Fest
@@tomc9790 best $15 you've ever spent on entertainment. You're coming out way ahead on that sale. Enjoy it!
people who have never heard of them see them for the first time, and become instantly addicted. I can tell you how many concerts I've been to where I've met people who have never heard of them, and were screaming and yelling oh my God who is this band!
The BAND was so under rated. Miss them. You sing this song beautifully .
The Band really was great, weren't they? Hard to match Levon, but these guys are tremendous!
As are Blackberry Smoke
Everybody except Charlie forgot there was one more verse. But of course Charlie handled it perfectly, as the seasoned pro he is, with little more than a coy smile back to Brother Brit. These guys are such a treat to watch. I'd see every live show if I could.
Me tooo! We were checking their tour dates waitin for 'em to come back to NC ... & of coarse ya know the rest. Covid😣
Arguably, this is about the closest a voice can get to Levon Helm's version of this song. The raspy voice and inflections in the way he sings the song are very close to how Levon would have sung this. Great cover. One of the best of The Night they Drove Old Dixie Down.
I would also recommend Dobie Gray's version as well. It's got a lot more of a "soul" feel to it but it is incredible. It's here on youtube. Type in Dobie Gray sings "The Night We Drove Old Dixie Down" and you'll get to it. It is definitely worth a listen.
Play and sang with plenty of power and soul. Levon would be proud. Viva Levon, Rick, and Richard and rest their souls.
Joe Van Seeters Nice they do Levon's music. I love Dirt Farmer too. It is TRUE Levon--Ozark Mountain Music. I have been hearing alot about Blackberry Smoke. Arkansas and Branson LOVES thier music!!!
Chris Robinson or bust.....

A tip : you can watch series at Kaldrostream. Been using it for watching loads of movies lately.
I love the Band and I love Black Berry Smoke too. They are awesome!
I hope Charlie will become a household name, what an amazing voice and talent as well.
He is a definite constant in our household....
Brilliant band and a great cover didn’t think anyone could come close to levon”s singing but this is excellent
He kills it working the slide on the Gibson!
literally the best performance ive heard since the last waltz.
Levon: The Last Waltz- Robbie nearly cried.
Thank god someone is keeping the tradition alive ,thnx BBS .....
I'm a new fan to these guys...lovin' it!
I'm a newer fan for about 5 months now.
Me too, just today I ran across them while looking for acoustic music.great
Any song these guys perform - everything fits. Excellent!
It's just Charlie being Charlie...no more to be said ...honesty never fails...BBS
It's not often a band plays a cover that rivals the original but Blackberry smoke nailed it!
I was there too with the wife and some friends. Drove down from Raleigh it was our 22nd time we seen Blackberry Smoke. An interesting note that the gold les paul guitar was Duane Allman's . It is taken out of the museum every year and played. Charlie talked about the guitar earlier in the show when he was playing it. A couple of songs after Charlie played it Paul played it. The guitar made it around to all the guitar players that night.
That so cool.
too cool
Is that the Guitar with "Duane" on the back written in frets? I saw that one in a museum with Eric Clapton's Blackie.
Omg the song was just great, now that I've read that it became a thrill!
Hey, I was there that night too! There was a bunch of magic in the air that night, this should prove it! Not many bands can perform this good and put on a show of this caliber! Enjoy all future events, I will!
So Thankful I got to see that live, WILL NEVER FORGET IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Song written by Robbie Robertson. Who is Canadian. But was inspired by Levon and his upbringing in the south. A classic covered by lots of folks.😚
we knew all this but hey, thanks professor of rock...
Joan Baez wrote it
BUT, although, some covers are good, even WERY good, this an EXCELLENT rendition!!!...BAR NONE
@@terryburleyson3018that’ not true you know?
Well Terry, Joan Baez didn't write it, she raped it.
I’m sure Levon and the rest of The Band would approve of this, great job Blackberry Smoke!
This is the best cover of a band song ever!
By the way when you hear that life, that's what's known as Detroit rock'n roll.
Black crows do a good job too, check it out,
R.I.P. Levon Helm!
Wished by god l was thete
Yes Levon had one of the most soulful, feeling, honest voices ever. Wish I could have seen him in person but Charlie and the boys do a pretty good job!
God Bless you guys! You make me Believe in the good old Days again!
A true classic; and I love their cover...
Like my father before me , I'm a workin man. Like my brother before me, I took a rebel stand
chris dirienzo Powerful verse.
Just glad they drove ol dixie down
Never did
@@GD-me2lv better be glad ole Dixie may rise up again
@@GD-me2lv oh ya things are going great
such a good tune.....brings me to tears❤
Iam a fan of blackberry smoke .. and i really like this live .. and i took time to read about lyrics and meanings behind .. its awsome .. this is real art . Big love from north africa 🤘
...and DON'T FOR A SECOND THINK WE FORGOT!
The South do-ith again? Ay ol' chap?
This song touches my soul. I am a Son of the South, the blood of Confederates runs through me. I am not ashamed.
Love your name.
Gratias tibi! It strikes fear into the Alemanni yankees
Oh yes
Seeing as most of The Band were Canadians .... I’d say this song has mass appeal.
Me too Thomas, great, great grandson of a good man, who fought for the confederacy, and I am not ashamed to say so. I love this version of a great song by The Band, great job Blackberry Smoke.
Everyone I've heard Blackberry Smoke cover has been phenomenal performances every time without fail. The Band, Skynyrd, ABB, Marshall Tucker, Mountain, you name it. These guys have done big time justice to everyone's music they've performed, IMO! Love them, and hope to get to see them live someday soon!
What a tune... What a crew of musicians... Top!!!
Stuck here in the Uk - get to see this wonderful band once or twice a year. Thank you Eric for your consistently great uploads. One of the very greatest songs ever done true justice here. Have to say there was a big lump in the throat listening to this. No one puts the soul and love into rock music like musicians from the South - a lifetime of listening to music has me concluding this again and again. And as for BBS - i didn't think we would see the likes of the great Southern bands again , but glory be , here they are.
+Geoff Rees Heck of a comment Geoff, esp. from the UK which has put out so much of that magical msical era now know as "classic Rock" (I hate that term- but, o well) We can only hope those days come on back around. Good things have a history of repeating themselves. doin my part in a band called 5Rounds Band. Have a great day, Cheers!
+Geoff Rees Lovely sentiment and I feel the same way.
GOD BLESS DIXIE FOREVER! We're havin' to FIGHT for Her, once again.
Crazy world we're livin' in - Thank God I live in The South. Deo Vindice!
Paybacks a bitch
Geoff its been two years since your comment but you nailed it I had a lump too
I can't belive how talented this band is absofuckenlutley amazing
Just lost Tom and I find these guys long live southern rock!!!
Love this song (and Levon). These men can jam, jam, jam. I got to hear them in Toledo, Ohio in Summer 2018. Most excellent!
Man what a great band for 2018 great southern rock
Dixie is a Live and Strong / Great Music
I just heard these guys for the first time recently...I haven't heard a bad song yet! This is AMAZING!
This group is awesome, love to see them live
CHARLIE killed it! These guys have so much TALENT!
BLACKBERRY SMOKE KICKS ASS!!!
With Levon, sadly, gone, and Joan Baez not really singing anymore, let's forget about the arguments who sings it best, and be happy that there are still people who do this great tune justice! Thanks, Charlie!
F'n beautiful.
I was there, it was awesome!
Love the slide. Yall do it justice. Levon and the band would be proud.
Probably the best cover I’ve ever heard

Just found these guys but they seem so laid back that it would be impossible not to enjoy yourself while watching them play. And I haven't heard a bad song yet...some of the covers they do you almost think it's the original band...they are fantastic!
This is the best version I have ever heard!
I love these guys!!!

Love this!!!!!!!!
WQhatsweet rendition of a great song by BBS!!!!
I've always keep a portrait of Robert E. Lee on my wall.
npo offense to Skynard , the Allmans , Molly or 38 but these guys are truly from the south and deserve the right to fly the sacred flag
Mike Worth so were the ones you mentioned
AGREED...
What the hell you mean? All those were southern rock bands. The Band who wrote the song were from Canada. Although he had to have loved the south to have written such a sad song. My granny told me stories about the war she heard from her uncles, she said they were hungry, cold and their clothing was falling apart. Another story was a uncle and his 7 brothers fought for the south, only he returned. He made it his goal in life to kill as many Yankees as he possibly could. It’s said he killed a hundred. My roots are deep in the south and I shall fly that flag it if I so wish, not out of hate but love for all who died, that are buried deep in this girls roots.
@@annstowe5295 4/5 of The Band were from Canada; Levon Helm was from Arkansas.
EclecticHillbilly I knew they were from Canada. I did not know Levon Helms was from Arkansas. I shall check that fact out, Sir. Thanks. I also think Charlie Starr sings it better then any other vocalist I’ve yet to hear.
Hope to see them some day! One horse town is still my favorite song. ❤
Love the singers voice.....great cover :)
What a Beautiful Real stuff...Real from the Heart Music, I mean...after that.. Ya know I just reallly like that cause it helps my soul troubles. All the best Blackberry Smoke, plase keep doing music forever...... ;)
If Derek Trucks and Duane Allman were in a band together this is exactly what it would look like
Mack M they were in a band together for several years.
Not possible....Duane died before Derek was born :(
Joey Lewis you're right, I was thinking about Warren Haynes, my bad
Butch Trucks, Derek's uncle played drums (alongside Jaimoe) for the Allman Brothers Band from 1969 until they disbanded in 2014.
Derek never played with Duane but he carries his mantel well.
He's got the same touch with the slide on an SG. But that aside, Blackberry Smoke is one of the best bands out today. Southern rock is alive and well.
Thank you for putting this online
MG! That Gibson SG sings!
greg martin making that les paul cry the blues 😊
The best cover ever!
These guys are amazing
BBS, the best band in the world.
Love the south....
The best, what tipped it off (the Headhunters )🥰
love it.. Levon would be proud
Cool song ! My Great x 6 was Richard S. Ewell , he was the Gen that burned Richmond down ! Sad but cool song !

So beautiful
Thar goes a Robut E Lee-eee !!!
man that is awesome!
I had a good friend at the University of Arkansas Law School named Robert "Bobbie" Coleman from Forest City, Arkansas and I understand since his graduation he has now become "THE BIG DAWG" and I know that man ABSOLUTELY LOVED the song "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down", especially when it was sung by LEVON HELM at the ARKANSAS STATE FAIR during the time period 1977 until "our final parting" when we graduated from LAW SCHOOL in May, 1980 along with the following persons, to wit: (1) Hugh Rodham, Brother of Former First Lady Hilary Rodham Clinton, and (2) Rodney Slater, a prominent African American Human Being, who later became SECRETARY OF TRANSPORTATION under President William Jefferson Clinton. Of course, these individuals tended to LEAN DEMOCRAT ... Time does not permit me to address which members of my GRADUATING CLASS may or may not have "LEANED REPUBLICAN". However, MUSIC IS THE UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE OF LOVE ... and we do not have to "get political about everything" .... 7/1/2020 SRC
What a song.....Histrory
wish they would come to the Longview Texas area.
Amazing cover!!❤
Freaking Awesome as always
I think I commented on this before but Greg Martin was killin on the guitar that night as well as Charlie on Allman's gold top for a bit. I went to a lot of Blackberry Smokes shows here in Ga but them and the Kentucky Headhunters playing was one hell of a good time
I should have known about these amazing and talented guys before tonight. Shame on you RUclips!
