Great video! I just started longboarding today since I wanted to carve, this is a really nice video that I'll be watching again when I'm more comfortable on the board haha
Thanks for this. Lots of videos start with dance steps but i need to know how to just get the board moving first 😭 love this tutorial breakdown as an absolute beginner
@@DrJinKwon oh well, plenty of room for improvement...ahahahha, I am 45 years old, got into this through a colleague who is quite good, but it will take a while until I can slide and all the fancy stuff....but I am really enjoying long distance longboarding, as I don't need to do anything crazy, and I am getting slowly better on pumping...so like other people here said, make more videos 😀
@@DrJinKwon oh yes, I don't leave home without knee pads, helmet and slide gloves (although I dont know how to slide...ahahahah). But they help in the case of falls. Lookingforward for new videos
What do you recommend for wheel size, shape for just carving around town (not tricks or sliding, just tight turns and versatile for roughish urban terrain)?
for pure commuting generally larger wheels are more comfortable over rougher terrain especially, but you lose versatility and maneuvreability. 70-75 mm wheels with either sharp or rounded edges might be good for you, depending on how tight the turns you want to make are.
This was really a great, short, and informative video! I'm a beginner and just want to ask (if you don't mind) if it's possible to do carving like that on a rigid longboard, or if I can do cruising on a freeride board that's stiffer?
really appreciate that! absolutely! the fundamentals are all the same. you may have to play around a little with foot positioning, and it's more critical to bend your knees with a shorter, more rigid board, but you can absolutely still carve the same way
This is quite helpful, thank you, but am I understanding correctly, that once you start carving faster you use less shoulders - it seems so from your video?
@@DrJinKwon wonderful thank you! I am going to try the foot placement tomorrow because no one has mentioned this before. I have been standing opposite to that and couldn't understand why my shoulder movement feels "stuck", so here's hoping! Thanks again. Great video!
I always did my stance the opposite - i drive goofy - and i had the front foot kinda in the middle and the back foot with toes a bit overboard... I can't relearn it :(
@@DrJinKwon Thanks alot man, great video and thanks to you i'm kinda learning how to carve..It's just my 4th day of riding so i'm not that good yet but i hope one day i will be.
Don’t agree with leg position! Legs must be equal amount pass the edge. It’s not correct when toe on one leg and heel on other are out more than other.
@@DrJinKwon it gives you equal amount of pressure on both legs. In your stance when your back leg pushes more in one direction, but lacks the other, you can’t control your board properly.
This is the best video I've found on carving. You present the lesson in a detailed, clear, and concise manner. Bravo!
i'm so glad you liked it - thank you, and cheers!
Do more videos man.. I've watched a ton of videos of people with 100k plus views explaining how to carv and yours was MILES better
thank you man! i really appreciate that!
would love your feedback on my cross step video bro! please let me know what you think!
Nice job! SO much fun, I'm a faux beginner, getting back on after a long time. Thank you for the review on these fundamentals!
welcome back!! :) so glad you found it helpful!

cheers! best of luck! :) you got this!
This is fantastic. Thank you for the clear and concise foot placement!!!!!!! It helped me so much with turning in general and stability 🎉
i'm so glad!!
The tip about foot positioning really works! I can finally do a somewhat decent carve 🙌🏽
that's amazing, i'm so glad it was helpful! :)

Good point! I don’t find that I need to use shoulders as much but I certainly found it helpful to exaggerate the motion especially while learning!

How did you make that u-turn carve xD Can't seem to do it
I stay on a heel or toe side carve until I come all the way back around!
@@DrJinKwon are you doing something with your shoulders as well?
Hey man great video, can you do a video of how to powerslide on a long board.
that's a great idea!

yup!

I want to wear a helmet but the wind in my hair 🥲🥲

So u just shift ur weight faster
to carve more quickly, yes!
