While watching this, I felt all inspired and nostalgic, boosting me to want to learn more about these machines. I hope you get it finished and some additional assistance. Good stuff so far.
That's awesome guys! I've been thinking about building a mame cabinet from scratch using some old computer parts and other misc items I have lying around and this video has motivated me to do it over my summer uni break.
This was quite refreshing to watch. Nice to see an arcade's restoration in progress. Hope you manage to get it up and working, fingers crossed for success. More videos like this please...
Max the reason you cannot run KI2 properly is because you need the KI 1 to KI 2 conversion adapter that plugs into the hard drive slot. You then plug the hard drive into the conversion adapter. I have two or three of these adapters lying around
Get an eraser and clean your fingerboards on your PCB and check all of your grounds because the main one may have come loose .. finaly check tour power supply voltages with a multimeter .. hope that helps
I've still got my old KI2 board and HDD from back in the day in a box somewhere. I've always wanted to get it in a cab. I doubt It'll ever happen with 3 kids! Good luck though, looks awesome!
That's Awesome! Good Luck with the rebuild. What would have made it even cooler IMO, is if Double Helix could have hooked you up with some new/custom artwork/marque inspired by the new game. Wouldn't be authentic, but it would have been cool to see the front panel in the new KI font with DH and MS logos on either side.
Ive always wanted a KI2 Machine. I used to play KI2 on the giant arcade screen at our local arcade when I was a kid. I think it was a projector based unit. So bad ass.
Don't replace the monitor! You can fix for less than $20. I had both the problems you are having. You need to (a) re-cap the monitor, (b) re-solder the connections on the picture adjustment board and place it somewhere safe where it isn't touching anything metal and (c) check all the grounds for your sticks/buttons and where they go to the board. Try opening the control panel and see if the sticks work. Move the harness for the controls - one of the grounds is prolly pinched.
Do more of this. I thought about buying old arcade cabinets, but i think its easier/cheaper to just get the cabinet hull and put in computer with MAME roms on it.
Also I might be able to help you with your issue there since I have a working KI2 pcb at home and everything works just fine. I'll check and message you when I get home!
dude you gotta re-arrange that bad boy....same thing happened to my SF2 and my friend took everything out and put it back together then it worked perfectly
Monitor just needs a rebuit, brightness is definitely up a bit high. Do not use GoG for a CPO. Kudos to the wife. Pretty sure you can't convert a ki1 to ki2 without the small daughter board that goes between the hard drive and the main pcb
make sure your BLACK common wire that goes to every single microswitch is connected to a power spot on the PCB. Then try a few to eliminate that as your issue.
he said he has the same problem with 1&2, and when you're using a flash adapter, you don't need a conversion adapter for the HDD... because there is no HDD. the problem is likely with the KI board. cps2 and KI are both wired for jamma, if the controls on cps2 board work but the KI board does not, something is wrong with the KI board. may be something as simple as corrosion/other damage to the jamma edge or a problem on the pcb itself. max, send me a private message; happy to help out.
CvS2, DDR, AND a candy cab?! We need an arcade tour and WAY more garage warrior Dood! Shoot, I will send you some Neo Geo games and a 1-slot board if you'll do some garage warrior or yo videogames vids for them!
I noticed you're using Happ Parts for the controls, or they could be X-Arcade, they look similar. Any specific reason you're not using Sanwa or Seimetsu? Just wondering.
Max if you need to replace any of the artwork on the machine this website has repros for all the artwork on the machine even for KI 2 gameongrafix - google search, search in the websites search and you'll find it on one f the pages.
Max did u hear about the arcades that's all dusty found in a warehouse think in Glendale it was on the news. They had old fighting games such as MK, SF2, Pac-man etc.. all going up for auction soon.
Ask the guy who runs Killer Instinct Online (his name's Chris if memory serves). He owns a KI machine so he might be a big help, especially for your (admittedly quite awesome) KI machine.
Man, I remember trying to get together all the parts for a KI cabinet in like 2002, and the disk drive was the biggest issue as they apparently just started failing after a while. I'm glad there's a workaround that now. And installing the KI2 artwork made me turn into an immature 14 year-old again. Poor planning for that joystick and Tusk's stance, lol. Also...KLOV.com if you haven't already been there. Freakin' goldmine for cabinet rebuilding.
4 years and still waiting
YOUU FOOOLLL. 6 years dood.
@@upodo100 hehehe
Where is part 2 max, we gave you a lot of time already...
While watching this, I felt all inspired and nostalgic, boosting me to want to learn more about these machines. I hope you get it finished and some additional assistance. Good stuff so far.
This man has a genuine love for videogames and the 90s.
God bless you sir, for keeping the memories alive.
Wow! Great to see you and the team rebuilding a KI2 cabinet. Best of luck to you on getting back in tip top shape.
I did the same many years ago, it was a hard time rebuilding this but it works fine and i'm so happy and proud
"That's Benny. He didn't help at all."
That dog is awesome.
Max is a genius!! Good luck with getting the KI 2 up and running properly

That's Awesome! Good Luck with the rebuild.

Thats a awesome KI machine! Great work
We had to wait 17 years to see a new KI. Maybe another 17 years to see this completed.
This was really great to watch, thanks for sharing and keep us updated!
WOW. I fell so sad not being some childhood friend you would call to play it right now. Amazinga work. Have fun guys.
These guys are epic! Would buy a cabinet from them anyday ( I live in Scotland sadly)
This video is great. I really love seeing these restorations.
Ive always wanted a KI2 Machine. I used to play KI2 on the giant arcade screen at our local arcade when I was a kid. I think it was a projector based unit. So bad ass.
Wish I could help.but good luck with it.great vid.would love to see part 2 of it up and running.
Max this is one of the greatest ideas dude. I LOVE THIS KIND OF STUFF!!
DAMN! I came here due to Arcade 1UP just announcing the New Killer Instinct Cabinet!!! Woo Hoo!

Do more of this. I thought about buying old arcade cabinets, but i think its easier/cheaper to just get the cabinet hull and put in computer with MAME roms on it.
That machine is Legendary!!!
You can emulate the stuff perfectly.
Best of luck Max, lucky jerk with all those Arcade machines.
When you get that done, you should totally get Ken Lobb to come sign in it for you guys!
Epic guitar solo @ 0:59
I can only imagine one of these days max is going to open up his own arcade as a business as opposed to just a garage arcade with friends.
Like given because Max has a DDR machine! Damn Max has a lot of arcade cabinets, cool stuff!
Week of upside down Killer Instinct! Let's go!
Finally your sound KI again and I can watch your videos now
Also I might be able to help you with your issue there since I have a working KI2 pcb at home and everything works just fine. I'll check and message you when I get home!
dude you gotta re-arrange that bad boy....same thing happened to my SF2 and my friend took everything out and put it back together then it worked perfectly
awesome Maximilian
I WANT THAT ARCADE MAX!
Monitor just needs a rebuit, brightness is definitely up a bit high. Do not use GoG for a CPO. Kudos to the wife. Pretty sure you can't convert a ki1 to ki2 without the small daughter board that goes between the hard drive and the main pcb
Kick ass garage bro
Yeah his stuff is real interesting.

I noticed you're using Happ Parts for the controls, or they could be X-Arcade, they look similar.

Idk how i feel about the joystick being between Tusk legs...
Nice, I'm gonna try to customize a KI themed vewlix clone after I save my money back up after XB1 and arcade sticks
Brilliant max. Very impressive. Where did you get the cabinet and whats the cost been so far?
max should have his own arcade bussiness, it should be named The hall of HYPE!
Max did u hear about the arcades that's all dusty found in a warehouse think in Glendale it was on the news. They had old fighting games such as MK, SF2, Pac-man etc.. all going up for auction soon.
Man I'm so happy to see lukemorse1 being mentioned in the comments, you should totally ask him.
That is alot of fuckin work. Makes you think about the mindset of the built that first built it.
i like this a lot, i wish i could get an arcade, that must be so awesome
Ask the guy who runs Killer Instinct Online (his name's Chris if memory serves). He owns a KI machine so he might be a big help, especially for your (admittedly quite awesome) KI machine.
My god! the video lasted 10 minutes and I felt like going on a journey with you Max!
How many hours did you put into building this KI Cabinet?

Hope you get the problem solved wanna see this project finished
Do you know how awesome that would be?
Hey i have a question. What happen between rare & midway? Did they have a falling out?
Thats from the first Killer Instinct ost called The Way U Move.
Wish there was a part two
max´s garage is a small piece of heaven to anyone that likes arcades lol
Max should make a video of Matt and himself playing KI upsidedown.
