Central oregon is beautiful. Love the content and the love for the outdoors is a must
I'm loving these videos. I like the 20-30 minute length. They are perfect. Very well shot and edited. It's like a fishing tv show but your always fishing for salmon and steelhead which makes it that much better. Even when your not catching it's nice to see the comrade between you guys and just the effort that you guys put in to these trips. Keep it up!

Guy controlling the raft would be a fun guy to fish with.
Something that works really well on those Central Oregon Rivers is backing down scented deep diving plugs behind side planers. Colorful plugs that can hold scent especially behind side planers seem to work very well on Rivers like the Deschutes, John Day, etc...
Did good considering the count on that river last year was under 1k steelhead
I always did great on that River using #4 blue fox sliver blade with dark body. Yes fish close to the banks within 20’ and fish the spinners like you’re spoon fishing or drifting, works awesome in that beautiful river.

I think the diminished catches have to do with a combination of poaching, weather, urbanization, overfishing etc. I recently watched a video on you tube by fish hunt shoot productions and he shared a story of the coast guard busting a Chinese ship that had poached 90 tons of salmon in Alaskan waters. I mean that definitely had an impact on fish populations I’m sure.

ive been wanting to fish that river so I recently just loaded up my rig, drove out, slept in my rig and fished for the weekend. was a lot of fun out there. definitely going to be going back out with a guide some time to cover more of that river. caught quite a few trout but fun none the less
Alaska had a bad salmon run this year due to a lack of rain among other things. Sounds like the fishing has been slow for the entire Northwest. Beautiful river gents.
The BC salmon runs have been terrible as well.
Love that river! I live in central Oregon and fish it A lot. It definitely will make you pay your dues before it gives anything up.

We do a 4 day float once a year down this river. We only fish for trout though. And yes you definitely pay your dues. We have learned it’s easiest to just fish dry flies an hour before dark. Fish are very active in the cooler evening. 2020 is the first year we have missed in a great many due to covid

Central Oregon is a really fun place in the spring and summer but when it is summer there it has to be in the 90 or 80 because the water gets really low

Thats too bad. When I went with Jordan there, we rocked it. 4/5 on same run. Last fish hooked was Chinook
That's so funny. The guy at the end if my uncle James. As a Tribal Member of Warm Springs, I grew up fishing along the Deschutes River from Sherars Bridge all the way up to Pelton Dam.
I live in eastern Oregon and they are usually near the banks
I just did that same thing last saturday Marlin! took my time a made a nice blood knot and flouro leader to an egg hook, got all baited up and realized i missed the top 2 eyes. I felt so dumb, but i dont feel as bad now knowing that even pros do it. cheers

Have any of you ever did an episode or even fished the Sandy River? Back when I lived in Oregon, before I retired, as far as the River I did the most damage on bank fishing was the Sandy River. I caught more Chinook and Steelhead there than any other river except the Rogue. I usually caught more salmon and Steelhead during my annual 5 day trip down the Rogue than I did on all my other trips combined for the year. You should do an episode on the Sandy.

im from northwest Washington state, really love these videos man! its been a slow over here but having fun and doing it is all that matters
you guys are showing the reality it takes for going fishing and not every trip is a lucky one !
Casting plugs works well on that part of the river when everything else is flat. I swing them and fish through the drifts taking 2 steps down every 2 or 3 casts. These fish like to take several looks before committing. Me I catch more steelhead on swinging flies. And Jorden is right...these fish love to hangout in the moss near the bank. My biggest fish was hooked in 3 feet of water behind a guy who waded out beyond the slot. Look for fins and tails in the moss slots.
I'm coming back to all of these steelhead videos to prepare myself for the next steelhead season. I just hope it ain't like last year where I only land one and lose a fish that was at least 44 inches.
i was born and raised out there. My first trip down that river was when i was 18 months old lol. I try to make a trip out there in may for big hungry trout. If yall want to get into more of the trophey trout on a fly rod on that river hit me up around may. I know the holes that the guides wont take you too.
It's a super hard river to fish we usually back bounce corkey and eggs we fish right below the falls to the bridge and we do pretty good we caught a lot of steelhead this year and quite a few salmon it was a good year

Honestly, I fish almost 2 times a week, I've had a decent year. But what's hard for me is to know were the fish are, or how to read the water to know were they are hiding at. I'd like to see you teaches how to read the water so we know where the fish are. Maybe?

Try presenting some flys at them! I find when it gets tough I can only get them to go on fly's. Try a "thin mint" pattern. Its a wolly bugger variation. Good luck boys.

Makes me feel good watching this video. I fish from shore and steelhead run through they should be here this month actually. The river I fish is equally as big as this, seeing you guys not get hits every cast like you usually do shows me just need to mix it up bait wise and keep trying.

I thought I saw a trout bead used above a glob of eggs in the video but have you ever tried just using a single 10mm steelhead bead in this river? I Understand you guys were fishing deep holes more suitable to a float and jig setup, or tossing spoons and spinners. When all else fails for me, I throw on a single trout bead. Try it out in your next video, I love watching them! Cheers.
I catch plenty of steelies in water 4 to 6 feet deep using floats.
