Ive been playing with making fish fert. It's pretty easy to catch 15-20lb catfish here so I put a good bit of meat in the freezer and the leftover carcasses are fermenting in an barrel. Smells like hell but its amazing for the market garden.

Definitely consider siphoning to transfer liquids, you can move a whole lot of water passively with a 2" flexible hose, or even hard lines too.

I live in Michigan, 5 minute walk to Lake Michigan and I’ve been collecting alewife that wash shore, seaweed and whatever greens like milkweed i can forage in large quantities without harming the local ecosystem. Just been letting these age in barrels with a little bit of wood ash, kombucha, urine and let me tell you my garden responds within hours when I dilute it with water and let it charge up in the sun for a couple hours. The key is to experiment with what’s available and have fun with it. After all, it’s free.

There's a 'gravity fed', HAND OPERATED NEW SIPHON THAT that you can use to transfer your liquids. It will fill/empty a 5 gallon bucket in SECONDS. Stoney Ridge Farmer went to a tractor event and the 1st short clip he shows on his video is that siphon but he shows the full footage of it at the end. I went back and looked at that video for you and it's called a "Best Siphon". You can find it on the website by the same name with the 'usual' ending. I think you'd love it, because, unless I'm totally mistaken, you don't need to use a pump of any kind to siphon the liquid from one container to another.

    • @terrijuanette486
      @terrijuanette486 Год назад

P.S. If you want to siphon faster for larger containers, instead of a pump, just add another siphon.

Love this content, I agree that’s it’s needed info to a greater audience. Quick question: You mention the need to dilute your JMS to something like 1000 gallons (which you retort with that’s too many trips); Could you simply reduce the mixture amount ratio to the water used as opposed to allowing rain water to provide an adequate dilution? Or am I missing something? Which is most likely the case as I don’t farm.
Thanks again for such wonderful content

Your methods will make sense to some farmers and they will use them, but organic farming has always been cheaper, but not less work, than conventional. The farmers I knew who made the transition in the 70's and 80's did it because they knew it was the right way to treat the soil, the environment and people. They did it with faith in God and support from their neighbors to get through the transition period. It's faith in God that drives the hard work.

Steven, I'd recommend a cheap harbor freight transfer pump, save you time and your back, coupled with a jackery lithium ion generator. The generator can be pricey, but the application on a small farm is very handy, I think it's a good investment.
I am also currently brewing and marketing microbes to commercial farmers, I grew up on an onion farm, and my own family has reservations on how this will work. Seeing is believing!
Also wanted to add, that for a commercial farmer where you are, "Y-dropping" would be an excellent applicator for getting it right at plant roots. Similar to how you are applying without nozzles, has a flexible pvc line from the boom to the soil level and drops the fertilizer.

Consider the load you are able to carry in your friend's Kubota, there is a maximum, as even a modest 100 G . tank would be 833 lbs. and new axles are not cheap. Some nice info there for farmers and gardeners alike.
If you put an IBC on your trailer for application, couldn't you just make a PVC pipe manifold with holes in it to spread the solutions?
Simple and cheap although you may have to play with hole size and numbers to get the required application volume.
I'd be really interested in the experiment with a neighbor to compare high input farming with the KNF / Jadam approach.
I hope you can talk them into it. All the best.

It would be neat to have a lid for a 5-gallon bucket that contained a sprinkler head with fairly large holes. This way, a guy could do a certain amount of fertilizing right from his shoulder without vehicles or other equipment. Might be enough for small, low-cost startup homesteads.
In the simplest incarnation, the "sprinkler lid" would just be a regular plastic lid with, say, a dozen quarter-inch holes drilled in it & a larger hole for air to escape. This design contains no head or neck providing clearance, so the operator would get crap all over himself unless he pulled the bucket w sprinkler along in a little hand cart.
An upgrade would be a 3d-printed design with a head & neck which could be affixed to any normal 5-gal bucket lid, enabling more ergonomic operation.

These methods will make sense to some farmers and they will use them, but organic farming has always been cheaper, though not less work, than conventional. The farmers I knew who made the transition in the 70's and 80's did it because they knew it was the right way to treat the soil, the environment and people. They did it with faith in God and support from their neighbors to get through the transition period. It's faith in God that makes the hard work easier.

By adding humic acid wouldn’t that affect the soil ph and microorganisms growth for good bacteria.

Which one of the links is the basic manual? I have the book, and I'm about half way through reading it. The more videos I watch, the harder this is starting to seem. 😏😏 I have watched how some of the recipes are made and that is easy. But, all of this other stuff is suddenly looking like it's not easy at all.

👍 use gravity? Put your barrels on a platform, or put a pulley in the tree. No pump needed

Great ideas! I'm going to put a rainwater collection on my barn soon and I'm thinking of having that up on platforms like you said and use that water for my field inputs.

When I was a child, in camping program, we learned how to take a gallon jug, poke small holes in bottom side, fill with water and tighten cap. The water barely leaked until you unscrewed cap. Then it came out like a shower. Was wondering if you could possibly do that as a gravity spray using your barrels or tank with cap on the lid? Just an idea to try.

Maybe even actual shower heads attached would work, instead of poking holes? Like with the cooler spigot we put on worm bins...

you could scale that idea by using a blue food grade barrel and put a pvc valve in the top, with the holes or shower head at the bottom, then crack open the valve to get the flow rate you wanted.

Yes! Fun brainstorming ideas! Could even use a dial shower head or water sprayer head to adjust to desired spray pattern. Maybe even drip tube emitters? LOL

I can't seem to find an email for you. I live on an old homestead that has been in my family since 1896. I have about 30 acres of hay fields that are orchardgrass and clover. I'd love a recipe to spray on my hay fields that I could brew and spray myself. In the past we have always done something to the equivalent of triple 13...
    Love some feedback..

that would be a great service - the documentation of the use of these inputs😆😅🤣i say show the results, not just talk about it. an example of this is the claim that when regularly applied, plant roots can and will go deeper and deeper. before and after pics would be great but not really totally necessary...blessings 🙏

I was actually looking at a 25 gallon sprayer yesterday. In your own personal experience what would you think and ideal tank size would be for spraying a total of 3 acres with KNF solutions? I have watched many of Chris Trump's, Dr. Drake's, and your videos on KNF solutions. I have many of the KNF solutions, a pile of IMO4 and preparing to start another IMO3 pile. We have been living on this small farm for a year, most of our effort has been watching the land and getting to know the property and maintaining and cleaning up the property. The property was vacant for more than 6 years before we purchased it, prior to that conventional farming methods with heavy chemical use. Now that all the brush, trees, and grass has been trimmed and maintained I am saving to invest in equipment to administer the KNF solutions. Just doing research into what size equipment I should be looking at for the size of the property that I will be treating.

I wouldn't go any smaller than 25gallon for that size. Something like the sprayer I used would work well it even has a wand attachment for spraying specific plants.

Thank you for the information. Yes, the wand attachment would be great for getting in between the rows in the garden and also to spray our trees.

dude ,,by the time you buy or purchase tanks tractors and and so on ,, maybe a extra houes water tank ,, or maybe you have a creek i dont know what your situation is, but a davey fire fighter pump roll up flexable hose and a large hammer sprinkler may be a cheaper start up option that can also perform a multiple of tasks,,,,,,,,,jussssssss saynnnnnnn.
