    This tour can only benefit both teams. England are blooding more players and giving them game time in high pressure situations, as well as working on the strategy that will be strongly in place by the world cup, giving themselves time to perfect it without showing their hand a year early or wasting time on temporary game plans. The Wallabies on the other hand are getting that winning mentality back which they seemed to have lost a couple of years ago and turning back into a top 5 team

    • @David-ud9ju
      @David-ud9ju 2 года назад +7

      Great way of looking at it. People have been criticising Eddy for not trying new players, so this definitely is a positive. Ultimately this is a friendly series even though everyone wants to see their team winning, so new players and new game plans are great. Would be nice for England to win one though.

      The ref wasn’t pinging any ruck infringements. England were great at making the most of this in the first half getting some turnovers off illegal play but Australia switched on in the second half and got some crucial illegal turnovers deep in their own half to stop England’s momentum.

    Great analysis. This has made me realize that there's so much going on at the ruck that its impossible for the ref to see everything. There's literally so much foul play happening and I'm seeing it in slow mo. We need to take it easy on the refs or find other solutions.

    Squidge I really respect your analysis. The gamesmanship leading to the send off was first class. I can't help but think your prediction that jones is a rwc winning genius has clouded your thought. England has lost 2 games in a row to 14 men sides. If they played the whole match like the last 5 minutes, when all was lost they would've won by30. But that was despite the coach not because of him imho

    • @zyaicob
      @zyaicob 2 года назад +2

      Eddie's pattern is extremely well established by now. His teams always ALWAYS fall into a rut results-wise in years that aren't world cup years. He doesn't care what happens outside of the RWC, because all of it is in preparation for the RWC. He's identified that Australia are having a bit of a renaissance- finally having a head coach to take full advantage of what has always been a team of stars, the young talent that comes in is really strong, it's worth learning as much about the way the Australians want to play as possible. And if you really think the last few tries weren't a direct result of Eddie's system then I feel like you don't know Eddie Jones that well. There's always a lot more behind the scenes than we can ever hope to know.

      @@zyaicob I agree with that. the only thing that was off for me is the timing of the subs. I think if you're playing against 14, you can get those fresh legs on 10 minutes earlier, and have them running at tiring bodies, as the Arendell try showed, apart from that. It was pretty close to clicking for me.

      @@jormundgandr88 Ok I'll continue as you are clearly ignorant of the laws.
      The Tompkins "slap down" is very simple to explain. "slap down" is not a law, the law is "deliberate knock on". The key part of this being the "knock on". Tompkins knocked the ball backwards, therefore no offence was committed, play on and the try stands.
      The Beale yellow card is a greyer area I concede. The same law is being applied law 11:3 "deliberate knock on" (Not "slap down", as I say there is no such thing) . Beale knocks the ball on in the process of tackling with his arms stretched out more than you would normally see in a tackle.
      Now the debate comes in whether he accidentally knocked it on in the tackle or was deliberately swinging his arms out to make it look accidental. These are given both ways, but it is common to see referees penalise players for overly swinging their arms and knocking the ball on in the tackle, which is exactly what Beale does. it's considered as a deliberate attempt to knock the ball on by trying to make it look accidental. It's up to interpretation but it's a fairly common interpretation with a strong precedent, by no means the wild controversy Aus fans made it out to be at the time.

    10:44 I keep hearing commentators (Aus & NZ ones) querying why a turnover is given as a ruck was already formed and the player arrived late on the ball. 10:44 is a good example of the referee getting it right. (Yes, of course they are often mistaken!) The reason Hooper can latch onto the ball is because a ruck requires two opposing players *ON THEIR FEET*. Itoje has gone straight off his feet trying to pin the tackler. That should have been the penalty right there, but it also means there is no ruck so Hooper can grab the ball if he arrives on his feet.
    Mind you, I'd like to see refs pinging defenders for putting hands on the ball when a ruck has formed, instead of meekly telling them to take their hands away. They've already slowed the play by then, which is what they were aiming to do. Another thing that needs more attention is YC's for cynical penalties on defence, especially when playing on a penalty advantage.
