The fact that this thing not only start right up but drove after sitting for 4 years is amazing goes to show how well things were truly made back in the day
i would like to see someone try to start a 6.7 after sitting
The air starter sounds so cool when it first engages
They don’t make vehicles that sound like that anymore. I definitely agree that the air starter sounds pretty cool.
I hope you start using it soon.I like this old dump truck.
That thing sounds AWESOME that lope & turbo whistle is great.
sure does the turbo is what sounds cool
There's something so oddly satisfying about an old diesel cold start.
I bet this truck would outrun the newer stuff we see nowdays... Sounds so sexy too
These are more badass but good luck trying to beat a 565 X15 with a NTC 350.
Not likely. Those older motors have no hp or torque compared to any motor 10 years newer than this one. It’s called technology. The only thing about these older ones is that yes they sound nice and mean
Not a chance. Newer diesels make double the power. It is more basic, easier to work on and far more reliable though
Pete. Good ol trucks but they wont run with the newer ones.
1967 Chevelle LSx exactly, an old mechanical will run long after a computerized one needs work
I grow up in a trucking family the old trucks sounds a hell lot better the new trucks too much computers in them now
I like the air started of this old Freightliner truck
Can't wait to see her working hard again I love how it started so easy after four years of not running

That turbo is nearly as big as the engine itself! Love it
that is one of the best sounding 6 cylinder diesels i have ever listened too pure diesel magic
Always loved those Freightliners. I would love one of those just to make my neighbors mad. Because they get angry when we start a Chevy C10.
Not bad for a truck that has been sitting for four years great job Tyler 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Love the Dayton wheels on it!
That is one extremely healthy engine. Runs without a skip. No knocks no ticks. And on top of that it’s got 80psi of oil pressure at idle
Never heard of an air starter. Learned something new today!
popwarhomie Air stsarters are old old school. They were the height of cool during the 70's and 80's. Pain in the ass unless you had a perfectly air tight air system, otherwise they wouldn't hold enough pressure overnight. Needed something like 60 or 70 psi to turn the motor over.
The rig in movie Road Warrior had air start. First I had heard one. The sound is etched in my brain!
You should see the 12 gauge starters
air starters turn the motor over faster that electrical
Daniel the Husky because they leak air usually plus electric is maintenance free although air starters are awesome
4 years and it just starts up like it just ran yesterday
Devon Ferguson But we have no proof that it didn’t run the day before...
I don't know much about diesels all I know is that I love how that thing sounds! I'm starting to like diesels even more!
Started like it sat overnight 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Put some air in the tires and let’s work 💪
Lee Majors yeah make sure you spend about 20 grand to replace all the dry rotted air lines and brake chambers. Oh wait, gonna cost more than 20k. Truck hasn’t seen grease and everything including all brake components, u joints and everything else is rusted. Truck would fall apart pulling a load and once you get rolling it won’t stop. It’s a scrap truck
Plenty of work in her still..
Got the dump truck running sitting there 4 years long time good engine need to move forward found new home start business awesome video keep up the good work friend bless you happy holidays Christmas
Maximum overdrive 😎
Cummins enough said!
holy shit thats a nice sound
Love those old freight shakers! A little tlc and that would be one good looking ole truck!
Them cummins those things can sit for years but fresh fluids and batteries that'll start like they've been sitting overnight
Sex to my ears hearing the ole' school Cummins running.
Great sounding truck!! What a beast to turn around, damn!!
Very nice sounding love the slope and whistle
You nearly got me man 😂 4 years SITTING not 4 years since last start! I'd say 40 minutes since last start
thats awesome its got an air starter just like my IH dump truck !
Old is gold...... I really love to have this kind of truck but can afford it.... Since this is a Dollar Bill
that's awesome!! those old Cummins run nice too
I have a friend his family has 10 dump trucks that have been sitting up for ten years. and they don't want to sale none of them. they guys father past away. and in his will it says they have to keep all of them no matter what. they can't sale the, part them out. so they have to get them.back running and the grand son gets them on his 21 birthday .
cool story pics please
It started immediately tho...
The old Cummins cutoff's had a manual bypass screw you could run in to let the engine run without a battery. Maybe this didn't have it. Can't beat the old rigs to death with a stick!
Any engine I know of will run without a battery,.. especially a diesel, do you not think people try pull the battery leads as soon as they get a runaway??
That motor sounds clean asf, congrats.
Ol truck has to have a 400 big cam in er that whistle sounds sooo good
Love that old school stuff
What an incredible Tyler truck, I'd like to take a ride on it someday.
Can't wait to see you guys use this take us for a ride when you do I want to go for a ride so bad I can taste it

The sound of truck..wish they sounded so trucks now sound like diesel vans
i'd say all it needs is a good wash, oil and filters change, brand new tires and a front bumper...
yep she just needs some normal tlc she be good
Someone's exhaust pipe happy but, take good care of that truck It'll run forever
("And Today this video is posted 4 years ago")

Is a Big Cam 350 HP by end 1970s early 80s,Good gooodddd engines'!!! I have 2 Small Cam 290 HP and good engines!!🇺🇸🇺🇸💗💟💖
American Iron at its finest! They don't make them like that anymore.
Air starters and their parts take up a lot of room and must be maintained. Most large diesel ocean going ships use air starters since they have the room and can generate the kind of high pressure it takes to start a 100,000 HP Diesel engine. Air is more reliable than electric start. Imagine the old submarines with electric motors, most of the ships hold was stuffed with massively heavy batteries that needed charging which meant the sub needed to come up for air. A very dangerous maneuver during war time.
Looking pretty Bad Ass !! Ready to go to work.. I run a 98 MACK RD tri-axle everyday, Screw these new trucks they'rs all shit. Actually my truck is the same color,, add it to my fleet. LOL !
yes the older the better for sure. we need it this fall just have'nt had time to use it
Im driving a newer truck in school and i dont mean new like 2015-2017 its a manual volvo and i hate it... and i mean maybe becouse the transmission for me feels like its fked up in it... low and high gears and strong and weak gears like wtf... im learning to drive to become a teuck driver
My last job before I retired, (14 yrs with them) They started buying all new Mack automatics. (300 ractors) My terminal had 21 out 75 were aoto,I love MACKs but hated those auto tranny's, Reason is new drivers can't shift,, not all but most.
Nice truck
i've never been able to eat the fat, the tasteless and gummy texture repulse me, but i've always been fascinated by those who can, and i almost enjoy watching them doing so
Music to my ears
Im. a member of the FFA
It's a Cummins. You meant to say WHEN it starts!
Cummins make a good engine. .
Приятно посмотреть! Умели люди делать!
I personally prefer the 500hp Detroit...
with some tlc it could be put back to work good old truck
Man this really made my day!
I'm no mechanic but wouldn't it be wise to change out all the oil and fluids to New before letting it idle and run? 😬
Laoboy 1 its good to let the old fluids warm up. Easier to drain it all out
No, you should run it like that first to churn up all the gunk into the oil then drain it and change with fresh filters and new clean oil.
I would also hit that engine with a pressure washer to blow of all the gunk and clean the engine so I can run it some more and find if there are any oil leaks.
nice you get truck
That was awesome
sounds great
Запуск двигуна с воздуха как на танке супер
i would buy that runs good
RUN FORREST, RUN!
That rig sounds beautiful. I just love diesel power. Love air starts. They wing that engine over with ease. I have a 1990 12v Cummins Dodge 1-ton and will drive that as long as she goes. I bought a brand new Dodge in 2010 with the 6.7 cummins and only drove it a year before I sold it. I understand trying to be environmentally friendly, but the pollution requirements by the government on these engines rob them of so much power and not to mention are very costly to replace anything. All a 12v needs to get easy HP and torque is a boost elbow to go along with a fuel plate, some afc tuning, 3k governor springs and bump the timing to 16 degrees. Thanks for the vid, love seeing these old diesels get put back to work! What year is that Freightliner? (I apologize if this was already answered.)
its a 1980s no thats fine.
My dad's new truck sat for a month and he started having problems with def
I like the way the air starter sounds it seems like you need more stuff to operate it air compressor electric to run the air compressor I guess that's why they did away with them
Stephen Hansen they had an electric compressor just because they can't hold air for four years
No way that was the initial cold start!!!
yep it was
Nice
I take that old freight liner then a new one
Did you guys have to prime the injectors or anything? Was cool that she not only started but was able to pull herself out of that hole with minimal fuss. From what I see all of the brakes seem to have broken free.
nope just hit the air starter and fired up i am not surprised because we never had a cummins no start on us
How come the thing sat for 4 years? Was there a mechanical problem? It sounds good.
Sounds mint
