The fear I have when it comes to dentistry is the fear of PAIN because of the experience I had in the past. I felt everything, caused me to have the trauma of the feeling, turned into a phobia. The phobia just doubled because of my biological father, because that time when I was you, he's scaring me to get beaten hard if I don't go to dentist to pull my aching tooth out. These experiences affected my life now I'm a 23 year old adult, I still find tooth extractions so scary because of my trauma. Now I have two broken lower molars that needs to be pulled, I still can't manage to get it pulled out because of fearing of the pain. Wishing that someone could help me but I can't find any help that I wish for.

Sorry to hear that you have had traumatic experiences that have affected you in life. Have you considered sleep dentistry, where the dentist proceeds with treatment while you are under local anesthetic. Patients with dental anxiety often proceed with this option. Hope you are able to fix your teeth soon.

@@DentalBoutiqueAU If only I could have money for trying it out, but I only live in poverty. But I'm more worried and scared about the procedure more than the cost. Speaking of, I never get sedated or something like that, so my curiosity is also added to the fear. I wonder how it feels to be sedated or they call it "twilight sleep". Also, what I am fearing is, how safe is sleep dentistry.
Sedation dentistry are very rare here in our place, and it's really sad to know most of dental clinics here doesn't care about dental phobia.

i find listening to music helps a ton, relaxing music or stuff like native american flutes and i close my eyes and picture myself somewhere else listening to those sounds while maintaining a calming breathing pattern is key... helps tons and usually gets me through dentist... usually the hardest dentist visits are where you need to get teeth pulled, generally getting fillings outside of the injection aren't painful at all and teeth cleaning is usually painless just the sound can cause some anxiety but really not too bad.

I didn't have any fear before of any dental visit until I met this dentist who almost broke my jaw while trying to rip off my upper molar during the extraction. He left me with a dislocated painful jaw and heavily swollen face, misaligned teeth and a bonus of a broken root stuck somewhere near maxillary sinus! Now I can't get myself to agree to the removal of this root through surgery...I fear they might push the root into my sinus. I don't have faith in dentists anymore. He didn't even tell me he left the root behind...i only discovered when I consulted ENT specialist thinking I have sinusitis that a tooth root was still there!

Those were the reasons I'm scared, I'm embarassed becase it's been 10 years and I'm 20, I'm afraid of the actual procedures because of everyone says if I need extractions it'll be scary, or that I'm gonna have a bad time. But I think this is what I needed to go to the dentist and I'm going to try and get an appointment scheduled! I'm tired of having all my teeth be sensitive, the tooth aches, and the relative lack of being able to chew. Thanks for everything!

I'm PETRIFIED of the dentist, funny thing is I've never had any work done on my teeth. No cavities or teeth pulled. Nothing. I think it stems from both my phobia of needles, and because I feel as if I've lost control. My anxiety last time was 1,000% worse than normal and I had bouts of trying to keep myself from crying hysterically, throwing up, running away, to flat out just disassociating from the whole situation. I always thought as I would become an adult this anxiety would lessen, but it has gotten worse and worse. This time I will have to communicate to them waiting is the worst part of it with hopes of it going quicker. Which will be really hard, because I don't like to admit when I'm scared.
This happens at the doctor's office as well, however, I feel like I'm managing it better. My blood pressure would sky rocket to 160 when I would walk in there but now I can keep it stable enough to get a good reading. Especially when I communicate my anxiety... wish me luck for my November dentist appointment!

Literally same. I’m 26 now and it’s getting worse each time. I’m going back to the dentist today after spending Friday morning hysterically crying after my dentist got mad that I gagged. It’s involuntary! One thing about the loss of control: I find it more comfortable if they let me hold something (like suction) or put things in my mouth myself (like X-ray things or the thing that holds your mouth open). That honestly works so well I don’t feel as gaggy when I do it myself...good luck!

Get them fixed as soon as possible, it's not as bad as you think. You just have to go to the dentist and get your cavities filled and not see them again I promise you it's not painful, I feared going to the dentist my teeth got so bad, the cavities kept growing but then I decided to go to the dentist after reading about the experiences of other people going through the same thing. You're not alone. Just tell your parents that you need to visit your dentist I'm sure they'll be supportive tell them you're scared of going there. You just have to get them fixed just ones dayy and you'll have good teeth for the rest of your life and take care of your teeth after that. Btw I have to go again because I got more cavities (4 this time 😭) and I keep procrastinating but tomorrow I'm gonna call my dentist and fix a date for an appointment. Don't fear even if they make fun of you let them, it's worth your good health, you're here to live your life comfortably and they won't even remember it. Live a healthy life! Take care! (And sorry for the bad English)
