8 Years on this video has helped me out - thank you! Had the exact same issue with a crack in the top left section of the boot and solved it with some clear silicon.
Mate, thank you!! I had a leak from the exact same place on the Passenger side and low and behold I can see a small gap in that exact area on closer inspection. I'd been tearing my hair out over this. Thank you so much. Absolute life saver man!
Thank you so much for posting this video. Spent ages trying to trace a leak in my boot and after watching this I discovered a very fine crack in exactly the same place that a previous owner had filled and painted over with colour matched paint. I have put some black sealant over it, but there is still a small leak, my dad is going to clean it down and fill it with 'dum-dum' (what ever that is?!)
For anyone else still having water leaking check under the plastic roof runners, pull the end up and there will be a crack under it, i sealed the mine with silicone then stuck the plastic back down with more silicone, did this 2 years ago and haven’t hand any water since 👍
What’s best way to put side carpet trims back, especially on drivers side? I took both left & right off but should’ve taken some pics as I went. Left is a little easier & have 99% refitted but right is a bugger.
my focus had the same problem took me 6 months to work out were it was coming from my fracture was 2 inches under roof rails wish I found this video sooner as I had sorted the problem just before I found this video
Well, my solution is: on my 2009 Focus Wagon on the roof (under the black long plastic roof trim) there are two holes, and in these two holes are two plastic screws (I didn't find a reason why are there, LOL). Remove these screws (first you must remove the inside roof carpet), and fill these holes with some better stuff (for example) Sikaflex-11 FC.
I have also the same problem too. But what type of screws do you have to fit your tail lights on? Are they Torx or Philips? I just asking because mine are Philips but I can only get them so tight. Just wondering if they are wrong ones?
the water in my mk2 focus hatch back ends up in the spare wheel well only a few millimetres but for some reason the tools and spare wheel are more like damp, just like condensation, boot carpets are dry on the side but the carpet that covers the wheel gets damp, any ideas.
Malcolm Perryman Yes I too have a Ford Focus Zetec Mkii and I have had the same problem. It does appear to be where the screw seals are under the light fixture. The thing is, I bought my car in January and it was only when an AA inspection was done did it reveal water in the spare wheel well! I was not amused!!
Just picked up a 2008 Mk2 2.0 TDCi here in South Africa. Great car but but has the exact same problem with the boot leaking immensely on both sides. Really hope this will sort it out. Also have the problem of the LCD display in the instrument cluster staying illuminated permanently as well as some power constantly feeding the radio even when the ignition is turned off and the key has been removed. If anyone has any ideas to help me out, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for this video as well

Great vid. Got a b max and it keep leaking. Thinking seal it all up.
Mine is leaking through the vanity mirror as well as from the rear maybe the roof rails are causing both?
I have the same problem. Did you manage to get the problem sortet out mate? Did you take the roof rails out? I think mines coming from there.

I have 2011 mk2.5. They are Phillips. Them screws are only to keep the light in. They were not meant to have clamping capacity
thanks for the helpful video

I gotnexact same problem thanks 8 years on
Which sealant would you recommend for this. ?
Any decent priced bath sealant will do the job
Excellent
Anyone know if roof rails clip or bolt off
If you mean the gutter trim/seal plastic I think it's just strong double sided tape from 3M.
naa it will be your rear spoiler mate
Same provlem i have.
