The VL3 Evolution from JMB is the newest line of airplane to join the ranks of light complex speed machines. As we are all hoping for MOSIAC to pass soon, the VL3 powered by new Rotax 916 engine will fall under the light sport aircraft category. This new variation of the VL3 will cruise at 200 knots while only burning 8 gallons of fuel per hour.
JMB claims that the 916 Engine will be the engine of choice for the VL3 moving forward. Price of a well equipped aircraft will drop in at $425,000

The landing gear always has electric retraction, the Johnson bar is for the flaps, the flaps can be electrically operated if you choose that option but some pilots prefer manual operation which is immediate and no electrical mechanism to fail.
It's not a Wind Gate. It's called a Fence
The wing fences were installed to improve stall behaviour, as the wing root stalls, flow over the wing tips and ailerons is maintained so that roll control is not lost and the risk of inadvertently entering a spin is mitigated.
The lever you refer to is the flap lever not the gear. 55 degrees are air brakes.
And when we get to the price it becomes unobtainium .
Compared to a Cirus positively cheap. In Europe these are microlights (
The VL3 and the TARRAGON are my favorite then the blackshape prime is a close 2nd ! Thank you for doing a video on this plane ! Do the tarragon soon !
@@jimmymezzetti1212Aren't Tarragon and Blackshape Prime stable mate ?
I feel the same way. I am waiting for mosaic to become law next year to decide what i want. The rizen is another beautiful aircraft with high speed in crusie@jimmymezzetti1212
@@mauriceevans6546 Rizen is very nice but its not the easiest to get in/out of.
At AERO24 I tried various aircrft. The nicest IMHO (you opinion may differ) were the Shark and the Blackwing. Shark is a very cosy, ergonomic tandem cockpit - but not for someone very overweight! The Blackwing has a very nice detail with a footstep in the flap. This is a side-by-side so more room than the Shark
This plane does have electric operated landing gear. The Flaps are controlled with the bar in the middle. There is an option for electric flaps also.
I’ve been training with the goal of making it to the airlines but through the journey general aviation has stolen my heart
That’ll happen!
that wing gate is called a wing fence and that bar is not for the gear it's for the flaps. Bristells have had push start for 10 years.
916 wave has come. Risen has also shipped a few 916's to its customers already... been to their factory recently, saw some in production
And if correct they fly even faster than the VL 3?

Seating position was well thought out. This seating position is supposed to be a better way to deal with G forces .
Great information thanks
Get one. It's for the channel.
Much more complicated than the B787&777 I fly 😀.
Nice presentation Mike, as always 👍🏻👍🏾
Looks like a Lancair to me including Beluga belly mods
Phenomenal 🛩️🛩️🛩️🏆🏆🏆💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼ty brother 🙌🏼
I flew that VL3 in Atlanta.
Great video Mike. I love the Vl3 and with the 916, it is really a beast. Patiently waiting for the Mosaic to pass.
Like all planes they just keep raising that cost. $425K is definitely capped
The Johnson handle is a bit funky at first, most times you'll be landing flaps two, the 55 degrees is only when you need to bleed altitude like a forward slip, but you can't forward slip this aircraft, hence the 55 degrees of flaps.
Thanks for showing us this plane Mike. I am a former Mooney owner and have a strong right arm from using it's Johnson bar. Also, I was in Atlanta last week visiting my kids and saw the news about your new flight school opening up at the county airport. That is way cool, and I wish you great success with that school.... Joe
For performance and price the lancair legacy would be a better option
How are u comparing 350,000/450,000 for piston to 1.3 million for evolution? There is no comparison in these aircraft
@@mauriceevans6546 I meant lancair legacy my bad
Grate Video, Do you know how about the rage whit the 916?
In economy cruise, you can get close to 1000nm VFR.
Man! That looks like a tight squeeze. I don't think I could even get in.
What are your dimensions? I'm 5-10 160 and fit just fine. I'm guessing you're on the tall side?
@@ChavngRynsPvts 6'7", 280 pounds.
@@DoogieFresh damn, yeah. I think the tallest they've fit is like 6-8 or 6-9. 😞
Would like to what prop is on the plane.
It's the Duc Tiger, designed specifically for the 916
love your content..if you can show more affordable experiential plane for your average joe's..thanks to you I looking at the sling tsi once i save enough i think ill pull the trigger on it, im an A&P so hopefully i can build it fairly quick..so show more afford experiential plane that can people with small wallets can build, thanks. your doing an amazing job!!
Is light sport ok for IFR?
In the USA: training and check ride? Yes. Flying in IMC in the USA? Yes - IF the operating limitations set by the aircraft manufacturer allows flying in IMC, AND the FAA issues that aircraft manufacturer/model "Special" (built to different standards than LSA) S-LSA certification.
Light sport category is where most of the new innovation and design is happening. I love your coverage of these developments. I just wish I could afford any of these cool new designs...
Wouldn’t we rather all own a Shark, Tarragon or Blackshape Prime?
Manual flap lever is ridiculously high, should be elec.
Electric flap operation is an option.
It is way too expensive for that same performance as the RV7
You don`t know much about airplanes
I agree. I’m just a RUclipsr who buys, builds and fly planes.
Cool baby lx7 great they included the brs 🪂
