JMB Aircraft's VL3 915; flying fast, high and low, in one of Light Sport Aviation's finest - S03 E09

- In September 2020, I had the privilege to fly the VL3 at Teuge Airport, the Rotax 912 ULS version of this beautiful airplane. JMB Aircraft picked up on my enthusiasm and invited me over, to visit their facilities and eventually fly the even more spectacular VL3 915! See full description...
The story of this trip to JMB Aircraft started at the AirFair at Teuge Airport, back in September 2020. I enlisted for a demo flight in their Rotax ULS (100 hp) powered VL3. During enlisting for the demo flight, I asked them if it was OK to document the flight on camera and to do an interview with the demo pilot. Little did I know it would be one of the most exciting flights for me in a Micro Light Aircraft.
JMB Aircraft, the manufacturer of the VL3, liked that episode so much, that they invited me over to their factory in Choceň and airport at Vysoké Mýto, both situated in the eastern part of the Czech Republic. Not only was I allowed to see and film a lot of their designing and production processes and to share the company's history, I was also invited for a test flight in their fastest VL3 yet; the VL3 915! This VL3 is powered with a Rotax 915is, an engine that produces an excess of 140 horsepower.
All in all, I had a very exciting couple days in the Czech Republic, which yielded 70 GB of raw video and audio footage. Of that huge pile of footage, I hope to release a total of three episodes. This video is the third and last one of this mini-series, sharing the experience of flying their popular and fast VL3 Evolution 915!

Ever since I received my pilot license, I shared my passion for aviation with a lot (and I mean a lot!) of passengers! Because I enjoy sharing my aviation passion so much, I would like to share it with the rest of the world too! But since taking on 7 billion people as my passenger isn't really practical, sharing my passion via RUclips is... ;)
Where a lot of aviation channels on RUclips focus on General Aviation at the west side of the Atlantic, my channel focuses on Light Sport Aviation in Europe, primarily Holland and Germany. Light Sport Aircraft are also known as 'Microlight Aircraft' or 'Ultralight Aircraft'.
The reason I make these videos is to exchange aviation stories and learn and improve by sharing. And because I love to share!
On behalf of the JMB aircraft family, thanks again for your visit Jolmer!
Thank you guys for making awesome new memories together and make a lot of new friends! 😀👍🏻
@JMB - Thanks for having us supporters of Jolmer's channel and in the first place Jolmer to take a look around and the awesome flight! Someone looked like a kid in a candy store. Well worth watching and great company :-)
@@dutchygirl Haha, affirm; me in a VL3 = kid in candy store! 😂
@@ForFunFlyer Absolutely, you obviously have a crush on that plane! 😋
@@dutchygirl Affirm! 😀
I've flown a VL3 a few days ago and i'm still very very impressed.
Right?! It's something else... 😎
This is at least my third time, watching this 3-part series. This is the most desirable airplane in the world, for me. Your coverage of it, the company and the principal people behind it, is done well and is so enjoyable. Thank You
Thanks! 😀👌🏻
Excellent mini series Jolmer. Thanks for all the hard work that goes into producing these high quality films. It looked like a great machine to fly!
Yes, it was a lot of work. Besides shooting videos for 2 full days, editing the first episode took 4 full 8 hour days, the second one 3 days and this one 5 days, whoops... 😳 But I'm very proud of the result and enjoy the positive comments of people from all around the world, like yours 👍🏻
Thank you for covering this Very interesting light aircraft-- and in such detail, with the 3-part series. Excellent material!
Thanks! 😀👌🏻
Hey Jolmer many thanks for a great series. 👍👍👍
You're welcome! Thanks! 👍🏻
Great work Jolmer! :D I can't wait till you'll get this model of the VL3 ;) Lovely series about the VL3 and the company . Cheers mate!
Me too, thanks! 😎
Thank you for this interesting and well produced series.. great work and airplane ;)
Ah, thanks! 👌🏻
A very cool aircraft and fantastic episode as per usual!
Want one!😁👍
Ha, thanks! 👍🏻 Yes, me too! 😀
What an incredible aircraft, I really want to get my RPL to be able to fly these powerful light birds! Great video Jolmer!
Thanks! 👍🏻 Well, I might know a RFI who can help you out in a couple months from now? 😉
Your videos on this aircraft made me consider aircraft ownership where I'm now got into a business project, which beginning to make a profit so I can buy this wonderful airplane within a couple of years. AWESOME aircraft and a WONDERFUL video!
Thanks! 😎
Those low level flyby sound great.
Totally agree! 😀🤙🏻
I like the bubble canopy. This plane would give me a sunburn in Arizona!😂
Yeah, it probably will 😉
Great series! Thanks for creating it!
You're welcome!
Wow. Great Video. Great fun to watch, too.
Thanks!
I've really enjoyed this series and it has inspired me to try and interview some companies within the UK. I might have to get back in touch and pick your brains Jolmer ;). Thanks for making great content.
I'm happy to help, just say the word 😉 Thanks! 👍🏻
👍☑️Well done. What a plane!
Thanks! 👍🏻 Yes, an incredible machine! 👌🏻
Would love this beautiful plane !
❤️❤️❤️ yes, I love this airplane. Best on the market. Awww it’s all over 🥴
Yes, me too! It's a stunning flying machine for sure! 😀 This video is probably not the last time I'll fly the VL3, so it isn't the very last. Just the last one of this series 😋
A great production, Jolmer. What a beautiful aircraft and you did an excellent job in showing it off 👌👏👏
Ah, thanks! 👍🏻 Appreciate that! 😀
Wow. So impressive. I want one.
Right?! Totally agree. And you're not the only one 😉
Thank you for the climb rate in ft/min
this is something I can readily relate to,
much appreciated. Nice plane!
Thanks! 👍🏻
Multiply meters by 3.28. If you need it
@@cmdmdThanks for the reply.
We all can do math, that
isn't the point, most Americans
do not relate to Meters, we don't care
to, imperial works just fine and is what
we readily relate to. When we hear
something like;
10 miles or 50 ft etc, we immediately
have a visual and spatial concept, we
don't care to have to use multipliers
and bounce back and forth, when we
could simply be given what we use and
what we prefer. Some Americans love
Metric, good on them, I use if for some
things but mainly prefer Imperial.
mooie video, prachtig toestel
Hartelijk dank en helemaal mee eens! 😉
amazinggggg :)))
It is! 😎
Awesome ending of this series, Jolmer! Or... maybe a new beginning ;-) 😃🤙 Great editing work as usual and man.. some shots were really tasty!! 😋
If I could afford a VL3, I would order one today! 😉 Thanks! 👍🏻
@@ForFunFlyer we neet to find some more subscribers for you so you can earn your free vl3 ;) don't they need a youtube embassador? 😉
@@psuter80 Yes, that would be awesome! 😀 Can you help me to gain more subscribers, by sharing my content everywhere you go? If everyone would do that, I'd be a big channel in no time 😉
@@ForFunFlyer it's time for you to start selling banners "subscribe to @ForFunFlyer" that all your viewers can tow behind their airplanes when we go flying ;)
Haha, yes, that's one way of advertising? 😂 But referral from one person to many others works best, I guess 😋
GREAT trilogy 👌🏼 Proud of you ♥

The VL3 is my favorite plane to fly in Sim
I totally understand! It's a gorgeous airplane! 👌🏻
What Sim program?
@@kenthigginbotham2754 msfs2020
Yes, what I said on your last video.
Fun pulling up with authority at the end of an “option” over a runway.
A lot of fun! 💪🏻
@@ForFunFlyer
Try it one day, on any plane. You just have to squeeze the control towards you, don’t snap it, you can enter an accelerated stall and snap-roll it. Pull the control far, I tell people to say “pulling up”, that should be the time it should take the control to travel. You won’t even get to 3 Gs anyway. Lol. Nobody does on the first few times, unless you’re on an aerobatic plane.
@@cmdmd I already planned on going for a ride with an aerobatics pilot, so; Wilco 😉
@@ForFunFlyer
Try a sequence of roll, loop, Cuban eight, slow roll (holding altitude), hammerhead, spin and recovery, snap roll, end with a tumble.
Eat very light two hours before. Lol
@@cmdmd 🤣
Reminds me of the old Messerschmidt 108 racer.
Yes, I see what you mean 😉👍🏻
Thank you for these videos! I am curious if you did any cruising in the 8000-11000 range? I haven't seen much performance data for these mid-level altitudes and would be curious what the expected cruise speed with the 915 would be.
No level cruise, just climb out at 2000 ft/min up to FL140 without any problems. The 915 just keeps on pushing! 💪🏻
@@ForFunFlyer you won’t be pushing that 915 long if you keep flying around at 85%. That’s nearly full throttle at that altitude. The sweet spot for that engine is right around 72-75% at around 7 gallons per hour. Anything faster you have diminishing returns on everything from fuel consumption to longevity.
Is a updated Lancair 320.
I absolutely love your RUclips channel, incredibly informative and very well produced. I’m very surprised that you don’t have way more subscribers.
Respect from a mere Canadian!🇨🇦
Ah, thanks! 😎
Are you Kidding me???? I am a fan... I want one... LOL...
Right?! It's a dream flying machine! 😍
Hopefully the US FAA will change the classification of the VL-3 to a Light Personal Aircraft or Light Sport Aircraft in the next few years, so we can get them in the States easier.
Hope so too...
Yes!
7:16. What airspeed was that resulting in trim down? I wonder if stabilizer at optimal pitch for high speed
Don't remember exactly, but the trim was a tad nose down at 188 kts TAS at FL135 👌🏻
I found 1 thing to be critical of about the VL3. The Ray Allen control grips need to be replaced with Tosten. I've owned 2 different Ray Allen designs; both were junk, compared to the quality, function and performance available with Tosten.
Aha, good to know, thanks! 👍🏻
Unos aviones que llegue nuestra casa es
Hi, How did you record the cockpit Voice ? Great video!
Thanks! 👍🏻 I used a audio cable hooked up to the headphone connector of the intercom of the aircraft, directly to the GoPro Hero 3+ (which has an analog audio input).
Totally awesome, I want one but have to settle for Microsoft Flight Simulator at the moment. 10 million subs and I will buy one :D
It's such an awesome plane! 😍 And errr, I'd like that subscribers number too, some day... 😋 Spread the word?! 😉
I would love one but then I still love my slow plane.
Well, you can keep that plane too? Then you can choose to go slow or fast? 😋
@@ForFunFlyer I will do that just as soon as I win the lottery.
@@flyingkub Haha, me too... 😋
have a nice day. I would like information about the technical details and prices of your 2 and 4 seater aircraft. thanks.
Well, they have only two seater aircraft, but take a look at www.jmbaircraft.com 😉
My main question is, can you do barrel rolls and split S’s ?
Legally as a MLA not, as a LSA maybe. I don't know if the Rotax 915is is capable of inverted flight regarding oil system, but I do know the airframe of the VL3 is very, very rigid. So my guess is that the airframe wouldn't be the problem, but to be sure I'd look up the specs on their website 😉
How do you protect yourself from sun damage under that bubble?
I use products from www.fly-tex.de/home.html
I noticed in several VL3 videos, that the demo pilots do not give away the controls very often to the guest pilot! Any reason why?
I did fly the plane a couple times, but left it out. I wanted to tell about the plane, not about myself 😉
Komt deze naar Drachten ...? Hope so!
Ik hoop het ook, zou leuk zijn! 👍🏻
Gaaf toestel.
Thanks!
@@baldamisari Graag gedaan!

True 😉
Am going to buy one.......Thanks
That's awesome! Enjoy! 😎
I want buy this plane
Well, the link to their website is in the description of this video. They're happy to help! 😉
very nice video, and very nice plane. A little too expensive for mee.
But you have to get rid of the old GoPros in the cockpit. Video does not look good compared to the rest of the footage.
Thanks 👍🏻 Well, it's more a matter of focus, where the inner camera facing forward focused more on the shoulders of pilots. I'm still pretty happy with them on general, only the front facing camera could be better...
@@ForFunFlyer with the newer Versions of GoPro (>7) you don't get that nasty shaking.
@@airfool Ah, you mean that. Yeah, I know. But on average it's OK enough. I should've use a different mount, my bad 🙈 But thanks for the feedback 😉
Is needing an oxygen mask common in these kind of aircraft?
No, it depends how high you want to go 😉
Did he say they flew 92 miles in seven minutes? Could you repeat that for me?
I don't recall that 😉 But it is pretty fast for an LSA 💪🏻
they should put a 310 bhp lyncoming engine in it and make it a bit stronger
Than it would be even faster! 🚀😉
The engine would weigh more than the rest of the aircraft.
Jolmer can I have permission to add your VL3 RUclips’s to my South African web. Site for VL3 - Warren Massey
I would be honoured! 👌🏻
Many thanks. They are a wonderful presentation of JMB
@@warrenmassey4029 Thanks! I have to get back to making videos. It has been a while...
At least for now, light sport aircraft cannot exceed 120 mph in the USA.
That's sad. If a plane and crew is capable of higher speeds then why the limit?
$375K
I believe it was €275k, but still a lot of money 😉
