Outlander should be on any PHEV list...

They should have made the Sonic into a plug-in hybrid. That would have been a great car.

Our 7 year old Volts still beat most of these PHEVs. On a head to head test I would put our Gen II Chevy Volts next to any to these cars, and they would be very competitive. Doesn't look like manufacturers have come too far, or perhaps our Volts were well advanced for their vintage.

i love mine. 2011 with 100k miles its hilariously good. plug the thing in and i reached 34 miles one time on battery alone! for around town, its basically free to operate if you have cheap electricity.

I should have bought a used one. Everything Chevy makes is junk now.

2013 volt, getting 45 miles range per charge on 10.3kwh.
added solar panels to offset the 12v load, thats how i roll. expanding the 12v system soon to 4kwh to take more advantage of the 200w of flexible solar on longer drives. upgraded some of the lights to leds to further reduce 12v system load.

@@vevenaneathna maybe dumb idea, but imagine you had a property with a stream running through it. you could hook up your own hydro station from 2 used 60 amp alternators, a shaft and some ball bearings on each end with a paddlewheel:)

@@ct1762 ya micro hydro is really interesting since you dont really need batteries. actually the first few houses in the US and UK were electrified by building dams on their property and hooking up what we call micro hydro now.
I think the problem with micro hydro is just the fact that solar panels are now ~$0.10-15 per watt if you buy used/blemished panels. if you have enough land to have a stream running through it, I think most of the time you could more easily put up a bunch of ground mounted discount solar panels and end off ahead even with a battery solution. the no frills maintenance of solar and lifepo4 batteries now days is hard to beat. you can build a battery bank for around $80/kwh now, so most people wouldnt need more than 10-20kwh of storage. its not that microhydro is not a really good idea, its just that solar now is insanely cheap and maintenance free. lifepo4 batteries are actually cheaper than lead acid now somehow

Correct! I got one parked in my garage, and I obtained 46.8 miles using the AC a few days ago.

What if you dont want a stupid SUV (bad aero, bad braking, bad vehicle dynamics, bad pedestrian safety)?

get a used Volt. they are really really good. if you only drive around town most of the time, its hilariously cheap to run as it gets around 30 miles on battery alone.

@@ct1762 Certainly one that appeals to me, affordable and 30 miles is enough to get to work / go to the shops / see friends. Then if you want to go further afield you just let it run on the engine. It's almost like hybrids are the solution eh!
