Lyrics that touch the deepest part of one's soul and the acoustics are the icing on the cake. Great that I got to listen , thank you to the person that put this out.
I have loved Lyle since the 1st time I heard him...do you know he won a grammy for new country artist? He never ceases to amaze me...his lyrics always touch my soul.
Lyle's got some REAL country soul. You can not deny such a sincere and genuine feeling that comes across with his singing no matter what your pre-conceptions of country music may be. A true Texas hero.
My wife (fiancee) then saw him and his large band in Detroit's Fox Theater in the early 90"s. We have seen him 2X since. Always on Always great. The problem is he does not come to the Northeast often. :(
This song has slowly but surely crept up my all-time favorites list, to where it now sits at the top. The song writing, the production, the dynamics, and the delivery are all executed to perfection, and yet it's anything but sterile. It's also amazing how Lyle has so many musicians on this tune and yet it sounds like a tight little combo. And Matt Rollings details on the piano are the icing on the cake. What a fantastic song!
Awesome video. There is *nothing* like seeing Lyle perform. I watch him perform every year at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga. There is nothing better. I also found a great article on Fretbase about how he gets the sound he does. The post also included this video!
Genius Singer Songwriter --- his music will make ya get up dance, ** listen in the quiet to the lyrics ** sadness -------- His song She's No Lady She's My Wife -- want that played @ wedding!!! think it is great song, -- if the families really do get along. He is a marvel. Lyle Lovett, Tom Waits, Richard Thompson -- all favorites.
Lyle is an awesome lousiana, style musician. Back to the roots. He was married to Julia Roberts, and had Francine Reed (wild women) play as his back-up for a while. Take it to heart. If you love the music you'll understand it without any ????
I think you hit it on the head. He transcends country music too. Country, Soul, Folk, Rock, its a huge mix. But the cool thing is that it is his own style. You don't need labels if you have that.
writing songs just seem to come from the air! That's usually how these guys did it. it comes fast, but ya better remember to write it down quick! lol, we write the best songs from a "broken heart"!
A perfect response, if you think that killing the bride and groom is appropriate. Of course, if you find this particular set of actions a bad idea, you could chill out instead. Just a thought.

Saw him do this live here in Dublin Ireland back in the 80's. Loved it then and it just get better with age.
Enda Doherty agree enda
I generally dislike country music, but I love lyle lovett, he is a quite simply a pure musician
Even people who detest country love Lyle Lovett's music. I am one of them! He is 100% talent, with no flash. He is my definition of cool.

The best REVENGE song...ever
I'm not a big country fan, but I always have loved Lyle's music. This is among my favorite of his and one of my favorite songs I've ever heard.
One of my favorite songs, by my favorite performer of the last 25 years.
Going to see Lyle and John Hiatt tonight at the Meyerson in Dallas. Should be an evening to remember.
I could listen to this tune over and over and never get sick of it! This song got me hooked on LL!

You can just tell Lyle Lovett is a wonderful human being.

This makes such pictures in my mind of the descent into the Valley.
Lyle Lovett is my new find in 2023!
That last verse gives me chills every time.
Wow this is great! I m definitely going to see him when he comes to Sydney

you wouldn't look at Lyle Lovett and think "cool." But when he performs, you can't help it.
True country music. God this is good.
Lovett is a genius

Lyle is great. Love him more and more every time I listen to him play. A truly amazing talent.
that's right, I am from Texas, right close to Lyle and he is one of our treasures...
Damn this is a beautiful song. never really listened to Lyle Lovett much before but I think I'm a new fan.

I used to love him in my Youth...he's so talented! great musician and actor too!
i probably would have done if i was around then but tbh only heard of him this week....love it all already :D
Loved this guy's music since the 80's.
Boy meets girl. Girl leaves boy. Girl and new husband get shot down following wedding. Best Country song ever.
A sweet little ballad.
Shit man!! This is amaaazing stuff!!
A simple 2 chord melody and an awesome ballad
I dig the heck out of Lyle Lovett..good stuff
Most mounting and beautiful song about murder ever written
The chord change to F# is pure genius
This guy is fucking awesome
WHAT a song.... God damn.
That .45 told them goodbye.
America is Always there, jus gotta see it....stronger than it has ever been, jus hard to see thru the BS...:)
One of my Lyle's favs. I think studio version had stronger groove,
Yeah pretty much all the live versions I've heard were a little weak. This is one of the better ones.
Could it be the Compression?
@netw52 I also saw them at the Meyerson and boy they didn't disappoint.

well said
Maybe my favorite LL.
The music is better than the lyrics.
And the lyrics are fantastic!
Best song EVER about mass murder!
@oldobbie Shows how much you know about music doesn't it?
Lyle is way cool. Not too much to look at for sure. But he is one talented guy. Gotta respect that.
Marry me Lyle!
Who got killed? Him or them?
Them.
What a great lyricist he is. This a perfect example of turn of phrase and unreliable narrator.

It would be even better if it was jammed out a little more..
