The African American Transfer Tipping Point: Exploring the Transfer Journeys of Over 7,000 African American/Black Community College Students
Two-thirds of African Americans who attend college in California begin at a community college, yet 60% leave without any degree/certificate or transferring to a university. Decreasing racial inequities in transfer is a key strategy for increasing race and income equality. Leveraging survey data from over 7,000 African American/Black California community college students, this research sought to identify the factors contributing to African American/Black students' likelihood of transferring to university. This session will present these research findings and provide concrete recommendations for supporting transfer-motivated African American/Black students.
