the thing that's weird is that AAI 1 is also all connected, yet it feels drawn out and kinda boring even though it's literally TEN HOURS SHORTER than AAI 2
@@ureehueurv I think it's because aai1 cases aren't equally important (for example case 2 and, partially, case 3 aren't as important as case 4 and case 5), and the last part of case 5 is a slog too (should've ended shortly after you find out about the yatagarasu tbh), so that might've left a bad final impression. Also there's more story to be told in aai2 (and that the characters also go through more development), since it ties the events from past to present.
@@idontknow8205 I actually think the main problem in Investigations 1 is that the smuggling ring threat doesn't come close to reaching its full potential. What makes incidents like IS-7 and SL-9 so great is that the games explore all the tragic effects it had on the people involved, as well as its serious repercussions and consequences. The only real tragedies of that sort in Investigations 1 are the death of Kay's dad and the ruined life of Colin Devorae, and even then only the first one gets enough emphasis. The smuggling ring did lead to the creation of the Yatagarasu, but that's not really a tragedy. It also did cause a great crisis in Zheng Fa and the split between Allebahst and Babahl, but these two huge geopolitical affairs aren't really explored all that much, outside of giving Lang a motivational to chasing the ring. Investigations 1 should feel like a great war against a heinous and far-reaching smuggling ring that is the cause behind many tragedies and tribulations, but instead it feels like you're just chasing a band of troublemakers.
I remember hearing this when facing Jay Elbird and immediately thought "oh my god was he actually the killer?" ... funny how music can throw you for a loop like that considering he actually didn't kill anyone lol
The best part is that that's the point. It wants you to think you've found the one, so you actually feel what Edgeworth feels and then blam! A huuuuge curve ball and you gotta rethink it through
Kinda like how, at the end of Trials and Tribulations SPOILER Cornered keeps playing even as you present the last bit of evidence to Godot. He even has the same reaction whether you present the right evidence or not. Everything is on the line, presenting the wrong evidence is an instant game over, and if you're like me, you will reset immediately after presenting wrong evidence. But that forces you to think rationally and stick to your decisions.
I think I finally understand what makes AAI's music different from that of the main Ace Attorney PW: Miles is a Prosecutor. His music reflects his relentless pursuit of Truth, and that element of "Attack! Attack! Attack!" Whereas Phoenix is a Defense Attorney, so his music reflects his job occupation: Defending convicted suspects, shielding them from accusations, Protection, Stalwartness, and Counter.
Music in the Investigations series reflects being on top of the game, staying on the offensive, pushing on towards the truth. Very rarely is Edgeworth against a wall, so the music that accompanies his work reflects his confidence and calm demeanor, but also his relentlesness. Ace Attorney music is about being on the defensive, reacting to one curve ball after another until FINALLY, turning the tide. Phoenix, Apollo and Athena are constantly the underdogs, clawing at a bit of breathing space at a time. Their opponents are the Edgeworths of the world: ruthless, calculated, powerful. So every bit of a victory they get, the music lets you feel it.
This and the mastermind theme are the most memorable themes in this game and top tier in the full saga. Seriously this is probably the best confrontation theme ever
AAI1's Cornered and Pursuit themes might fit Edgeworth's style a little more, but AAI2's go hard with all the synth and they're just so energizing when they show up. Really ramping up the stakes with this one, especially at 0:39.
Makes sense, considering in AAI2 edgeworth isn't as powerful as in AAI1- throughout the game he was a pawn in 3 different people's games(Courtney, Blaise, Keyes) and he no longer has the advantage
