    What I actually find really impressive is the fact that despite the massive size of the organ, there's little to no lag or delay between the key press and the actual sound, quite the engineering state of the art right there

      I dont know about this one, but for the organ in notre dame of Lausanne in Switzerland (which is the most expensive in the world) the keyboard is linked to the organ with optical cable, so pretty much zero latency
      Edit: not zero latency, as you'll always have to deal with the valves sending wind to the pipes, which takes some time. But the second keyboard of the organ is about 60 meters away from the main pipes, and it would be harder to play without the optical cable.

    My favorite thing about pipe organs of this scale is that, you aren't playing a simple organ, you are playing an instrument that's larger than most people's houses! Pipe organs sound huge because the chamber they are in is part of the instrument too. You are surrounded by its sound and it wouldn't sound the same if it was out in the open. Such a cool instrument and has a sound like no other!

    Ah, the classical organ... a mostly successful attempt to reproduce an entire orchestra in one instrument, and then force one poor sod to play all the parts at once.

      At the same time though it is the F1 car of instruments, takes skill to operate and really only shines in the right hands.

    I grew up on pipe organs. And because of it, every time I sit down to play a piano/keyboard today, I feel like I'm selling my soul.

    I’ve played a pipe organ. It is probably the most intimidating instrument out there. As someone who likes to pick up instruments for fun, the pipe organ is probably the only instrument to truly daunt me.

    wow.....that was pretty amazing....I just love the majestic feel of an organ, and it's massive, I also admire people who knows how to play it, whom must be extremely talented, playing a keyboard is hard enough, let alone using your feet.

    There's a massive organ (Cavaillé-Coll) in the second biggest church of my hometown (Rouen, Normandy). The sounds there is astonishing. (Un)fortunately the church and the organ are undergoing restoration. I miss hearing it and more importantly feeling it in my bones and flesh. Such a wonderful instrument.

      Great to hear the CC at St Ouen is under restoration - do you know what factuer d'orgue is doing the restoration? CC built 6 organs in the UK and 4 survive and the largest (in Manchester City Hall) is currently under full restoration itself. Jonathan has uploaded on this channel a video of himself demonstrating this CC just before the restoration started.

    • @FlorentPlacide
      @FlorentPlacide 2 года назад

      @@epincion I was wrong, the CC organ is not comprised in the restoration. It is simply covered up during the restoration works on the occidental part of the church (until 2024). Sorry for getting your hopes up :/
      In the meantime we still can enjoy other CC in several other churches in Rouen.
