I think it's not only Stadler who deserves a praise for the interior, but SBB too. They were the ones who checked everything on the option list probably.
I'll also add the tray tables are narrow and not long enough. I wouldn't have cost anymore money to have large functionnal tray tables. Otherwise, I'm impressed with what I can see in this video. I'd enjoy commuting aboard them.
@@Wolfy.travel I don't travel first class, and it's weird to have first class on suburban trains. Now I don't like suburban trains generally and my preference for any journey over an hour goes to old style compartment coaches, with thick and soft padding. There haven't been any produced since the 90's and there are no EMU's with such compartments.
@@girpe5635 Come on! That's a S-Bahn!!! Please tell me on which S line you can travel 3 hours? The average S-Bahn trip is probably between 20 and 60 mn
Stadler trains are really nice! With the KISSes, FLIRTs, their amazing locomotives (eurodual's are great!), and, perhaps some Stadler-built unpowered coaches for these locos, these trains can easily transform a railroad into world class!
But I think there are quality differences between Stadler Switzerland, Stadler Germany and Stadler Poland. And it is precisely the slightly less financially strong countries and their railway companies that order from Poland.
The Luxembourgish rail operator CFL has been operating the Stadler Kiss for a few years now, running on the beautiful Moselle River line to Koblenz. Definitely worth to check that line out.
Well, he should do it probably in the morning or evening, when the bright illumination inside the train stresses your eyes. Once took the "IC" towards Düsseldorf in the morning from Trier what is only a prolonged RE and didn't feel to comfy. The only comforts were less stops and travelling through to Cologne, but the interior is not designed for long distance services.
It’s very cool to watch these videos about Swiss trains and know that the Bay Area will have the same trains next time I visit. Hard to believe in a way.
I love your videos & this specific one (and others like it) because of the walking tours through the cars. I've travelled on trains since I was 6 months old. I love them. Cars & planes never could compete. I never even had a driver's license. Trains are the Way. Thanks to you & Superalbs.
It`s always a pleasure to see those trains. I live near Schaffhausen, seeing them every day passing through my home town. Before those trains were fully introduced on the Re48 they sometimes replaced the older Re450 with their DPZ (so the one you arrived with in Schaffhausen) on the S9-Line which was really cool to see them stop. Sometimes they get replaced by the RABe 511, but currently the 511 get replaced sometimes by RABe 514 (the Simens which can be seen on the other side of the Rhine River while passing the Rhine Falls) But you`re definitely right, they are amazing and Stadler just showed their outstanding quality again after introducing the Giruno
I go to school in Oerlikon now, so I often take these from Oerlikon to Zürich HB on the IR36, I really like them, but I have 2 complaints: - The seats are quite hard and not fluffy, I suspect they'll get less hard over time, but I would prefer a more fluffy cover, like on the RABe 511 or the Traverso - I wish the livery had a bit more black on the bottom, more like the IC 2020, as well as black window bands on the mid-level, it just feels a bit empty right now. But apart from that these are still exceptional trains, which I appreciate every time I ride one, just like the RABe 511 that sometimes run on my line to Zürich (S7).
If someone complains about seating on a 15 minute run the seating is really bad. These trains run on some lines up to 3 hours and it’s not something you want to do in these seats.
Enjoyable video as always - thank Thibault. We love holidaying in Switzerland (a bit expensive but well worth it for the scenery) and buy a Swiss Passport allowing travel on most trains, buses, trams and lake steamers. Seating in most 2nd class SBB trains is firm, but unless you’re travelling on a very busy service it really isn’t worth upgrading to first class.
I largely agree with your comment, except that when I buy a Swiss Travel Pass (the correct name) I do think it is worth upgrading to first class. Almost all Swiss trains (including the S-bahns) have first class. Perhaps more importantly, on the lake boats the UPPER deck is first class only, and this is rigidly enforced.
They look very nice. Im really looking forward to seeing the KISS and FLIRT trains being operated by the ÖBB in the future. We'll see the first few deliveries in ~2026 if i remember correctly. There's nothing wrong with our current double-decker trains but they got a bit old over the years.
There seems to be quite a few more differences vs RABe 511. On the upper deck, in the 2nd class, they lost the single window non-facing seats (they actually lost that small window all together) - guessing there's more spacing between seats now, but you have no choice but to seat facing someone. They retained that single non-facing config in the 1st class though.
IR35 are shared with SOB Traverso in high capacity times (rush hour) since SOB cannot deliver the capacity and IR36 the so called „Flugzug“ line you find everything from RABe 511 to Giruno to Mouette RABe 523 -try out that or ICN and EW-4 with Re460. The IR37 Basel-Zürich is a line yoùll pretty often find them together with some FV Dosto and rare Giruno services when they are transferred from Basel tonZürich with customers in revenue services. I think they now even run RaBe 512 in the RER Vaud commuter lines. Good video bro!😊
I hope i don't have this from Zürich to Chur next month, does not look as comfortabele as the wagons behind a 460 in IR service Looking forward to take EC 163 Transalpin. One of the few remaining trains to be hauled with a BoBo - actually even 2 of them 😍
@@peldar_ as long as you don’t get caught with one of the IC Class 502 units to Chur which can be quite rough riding and the loco hauled IC2000 coaches are much better.
This line (Schaffhausen - Zurich is weird) as there are multiple different service pattern and thus types of trains serving it. The few times I rode it they booked me on the German IC (coming from Stuttgart I think)
Thanks for the review and your visit to Switzerland! I really like the design of the train. The carpet in second class and plug sockets as well as bins at the seat are nice! However, why did they have to choose so hard seats and almost unpadded armrests? I wish SBB would fit their new trains with the same seats as in their eurocity coaches, which are very well padded and have a recline even in second class. I also miss footrests on the airplane style seats in first class and more bike storage. Four spaces just isn't enough in my opinion. And another small thing that bothers me in a lot of trains: why are there no cup holders on the outside of the folding table in the face-to-face seats? I don't always want to fold open the table just to prevent my bottle from sliding away😂
Im sure the seats get comfier woth time. You have to think that these ar brand new now. If they'd be used for like a year or more, they will be better.
Nice video. Great looking train. My only suggestion is I would like to hear you voiceover the whole video, not just the beginning. It would make it much more engaging!
It's really nice, indeed. But the seats in the 2nd class have quality issues right now where the hard shells at the backside collide with one another, making a loud rattling noise.
The one complaint I have for these is that the door beeping noise is (for me personaly, I suspect there are objectively good reasons for this) very loud.
Thank you for an excellent video which gave me a splendid introduction to a type of train I hope to travel on in my next Swiss holiday this April. But a graphic at the beginning regarding fares is misleading. You quote the single fare for 45 kms as 24.20 CHFR. As is always the case on Swiss Public Transport hardly anybody will be paying the full single fare. Regular travelers will have some kind of season ticket ('Abonnement'). Less regular travelers will have a 'Halb-Taxe Abonnement' giving 50% discount. Well-advised tourists will have a Swiss Travel Pass for the duration of their stay entitling them to free travel on all Swiss public transport except purely tourist mountain lines.
You are indeed right......If you are a regular traveler on the Swiss Railway network which is the case for a vast majority of the Swiss people, it is far more economical to have the 50% discount abo without mentioning the discounted fares on top for a given destination if the ticket is booked few days in advance. the Swiss Railway network is certainly one of the best (if not the best) railway network in the world together with the Japanese railway network.
it's not the same, those double decker trains in Italiy were probably "Penne Rigate" made by Pastificio Antonio Pallante S. r. l. (formerly Nonna Maria)
Interesting video, they do the same as here in Belgium, where the kind of doubledeck EMU take over most passengertrains😢. Miss the loc hauling trains. The seats in this new EMU are quite hard. Where are the comfy chairs like in the orange coloured EUROFIMA cars of the 1980s? Pure nostalgia! They should be the inspiration for the train building companies and not the spartan models of today. But when engineers use every where the same computer models, they become cost reducing formated brains and everyone builds the same stuff. Sad. Cost reducing is one thing, but quality could be realised in the past, why not now?

Why change a winning team? Kisses and Flirts are selling like hot cakes all over Europe! And not particularly Thbault's point that the seats align with the windows!
As a bike tourist its super handy to see a view of the bike storage, across Europe (and the UK) the options seem to vary from amazing to terrible. The train companies info often isn’t that helpful and they often have no concept of how big a touring bike is. So to see some video is very useful 😀
In my honest opinion as someone who has travelled between SH and ZH multiple times, I find these trains to be just a glorified S-Bahn used for long-distance paths. Putting this in comparison to DB’s train that goes from Zürich to Singen on this same route that features leather seats and a nice vending machine and coffee area, I find it a little lackluster
Had the pleasure to ride them too a few days ago, I'm so happy that the inside isn't yellow anymore like on some other trains arounud Zürich. Why don't you narrate the entire video? I think that would make the videos perfect
Swiss people prefer those seats for commuter trains. we often travel with other people, so we like to face each other and if you are alone more leg space
Regional/commuter trains usually don't have a cafe/restaurant car, including in the US. That said, in some places in the US what you might call "regional" will be considered inter city/long distance in other places so a service like the Amtrak NEC regional where some routs can take almost 8h you're likely to have a cafe car. Switzerland is a small country (about 16,000 sq. mi) so on most trips you won't have one but most IntrCity (IC) and EuroCity (EC)will have one (very good but pretty expensive). Generally speeking amd depending on the country regional/commuter won't have a cafe car, medium distance might have and long distance/high speed usually has one and in some places tje hiest class will include a meal served tonyour seat.
Actually except for american feature (like the other tipe of ramp) these actually are the same, they are both Stadler Kiss, except for some american changes SSB CFF FFS and Muni have the same train
I'm Swiss and I really have to say that these trains are rubbish... the comfort of seating etc is very cheap and absolutely not comfy... and unfortunately, this train isn't in use for regional service, but also for national lines like IR35 Bern-Chur (with a distance of 3 hours!!), IR36 Basel-ZH Airport and IR37 Zurich-Basel, and the worst thing about it is the seat capacity, that is much smaller than older trains used!
I think your opinion (which I believe) is a perfect example for the difference between a daily user and someone who takes this train once. The comments about the Intercity New Generation in the Netherlands are great. The daily users are much more critical.
Trains from Switzerland to the USA. It’s bad that America can’t make high-quality trains for passengers. But even beautiful trains from Europe are disfigured by terrible train horns! Why use those terrible train whistles from the 19th century? Trains should be quiet and fast, and all people should know that the railway is a dangerous place.

Why change a winning team? Kisses and Flirts are selling like hot cakes all over Europe! And not particularly Thbault's point that the seats align with the windows!
Will you review The Caltrain KISS when they enter service in 2024?
NO, there will be no review because you are not gonna get our beautiful trains!
@@adjusted-bunny Yea there will keep crying
As a bike tourist its super handy to see a view of the bike storage, across Europe (and the UK) the options seem to vary from amazing to terrible. The train companies info often isn’t that helpful and they often have no concept of how big a touring bike is. So to see some video is very useful 😀
The UK left the European Union, it hasn't left Europe as it physically could not.
But that DB train goes on to Stuttgart as IC.
The DB's trains are always better - if they arrive, at all.
Why does it look like the new electric Caltrain??
Had the pleasure to ride them too a few days ago, I'm so happy that the inside isn't yellow anymore like on some other trains arounud Zürich. Why don't you narrate the entire video? I think that would make the videos perfect
They made it yellow before to mask all those piss stains.
Ok, the outlets in trains are new in Switzerland, other countries had these years ago..and SBB don't want to offer Wifi (the rest of europe..) :D
Sorry, but let's face it: Switzerland is a 3rd world country. Wifi is totally unknown here.
You dont get a table if you dont sit next to the window? Hate seats that face each other. Why do that?
Swiss people prefer those seats for commuter trains. we often travel with other people, so we like to face each other and if you are alone more leg space
You can get touchy-touchy with your vis-a-vis. Much better without the table.
SHARON USA, Is there a small cafe where you can take snacks back to your seats, like they have here on regional rail lines?
No, there are no cafés on the RABe512.
SUPERBE SUPERBE SUPERBE !!!
so as someone who live in the Romandie, this where our taxe money goes and why tickets are so expensive?
Some people deserve new trains and some don't 😊
Forgive me if this is ignorant, but these look like the same trains California just introduced into service.Seats look better on these though.
Actually except for american feature (like the other tipe of ramp) these actually are the same, they are both Stadler Kiss, except for some american changes SSB CFF FFS and Muni have the same train
Compared to the Westbahn Kiss these seem kinda old fashioned almost, even though they are the same trains.
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Once again, had to take a bus halfway due to work on track ! What a joke ! Nearly miss my flight !😤
We have these in 🇭🇺
We will repatriate them. Beautiful Stadler trains belong to Switzerland! It is their natural habitat.
Face to face layouts (80% is the seats?) are fine and airy if the train in
Playing footsie is always nice!
Dr. Schaffhausen? Dr. Emil Schaffhausen?
Stimm zue
I agree with you
It all depends on who is ordering the train. The Serbian Stadler KISS trains have really nice seats. 🙂
@@Martin-on2ppnah I took this train so often bec I live between the IR35 line and its a really comfy train I only heard good things about this
@@Martin-on2pp the Netherlands, that came immediately to my mind when reading this

Was there a restaurant car on this train?
No. The train is designed for relatively short journeys!
The toilets serve as minibars, as well. Ingenious!
If you want to see the exception to the rule, the SBB Mouette (Flirt IR variety) trains have downright horrible second class seats.
Looks like all regional trains in EU is Same....😅 ...i have traveled by train in EU with regional train
The IC2000 and ICN were by far the best, these new trains are meh
The seats are too hard. DPZ 1st class or Apm61 are way more comfortable.
why do now all the trains look the same? hardly any design variation...🙄🙄
The graffiti will get rid of that problem, soon.
Not in Switzerland 😂 graffiti gets removed quickly from passenger trains.@@adjusted-bunny
Американцы отстают от Европы на 10-20 лет в развитии поездов. Даже в России такие поезда уже ходят 7 лет, а в Азербайджане 9 лет.
Ironing board seats.
Where do you see them?
