Glad you liked the train. It was great to be part of the design team for it. Also the first high speed front end I designed. Always feeling some kind of paternal pride to see these trains in action 😀.
I think they're absolutely fantastic trains, so you did a great job... Typical Swiss functionality and style and I especially like the front (or back) end 😂🇨🇭
Job well done. If you could, I'd be grateful to know a bit more. In particular, I'm curious about the carriage design & door/interior layout. Here in Britain we have the Class 745 Flirts, which have longer carriages and wider doors, whereas the (boarding) doors on these seem quite narrow. The 501 is also fully articulated all the way through. Would be interested if you could shed some light on the choices, thanks.
Announcements languages vary by routes, it's basically always German and English + local language of where the train is stopping on its route (french or italian) so in this case your train is travelling through italian and german speaking regions only so italian, german and english announcements
Basically it is just all local languages along the route + English. As almost all SBB long distant services enter the German-speaking area, you will almost always hear German announcements, but there are some peak-hour IR trains that only operate within the French speaking area without German announcements. And I think there are also some IR routs without English announcements, e. g. IR37, but I'm not shure about that.
To be precise they even switch: They must have been Italian, German, English for Ticino and then German, Italian, English for the remainder of the trip.
Also, to make things even more interesting: there are three different jingles, depending on if you're in the German, French, or Italian speaking part (no SBB service in Romansh regions).
Its a common thing in Switzerland to enter a long tunnel in pouring rain then emerge the other end into glorious sunshine. I've driven through the Gotthard road tunnel many times and this has happened frequently. Its a lovely experience. Beautiful train and another great video. Always enjoyable , particularly your Swiss adventures. So far , yes, the Gotthard base tunnel is the longest but will it be superseded by the Brenner base tunnel currently under construction?
@@finn950 if you take into account that the tunnel connects seamlessly with the innsbruck bypass, it indeed offers the longest railway tunnel, featuring 64km of uninterrupted darkness.
I went to Lugano by train from London in 1948, after war time Britain it was a paradise, food plentiful and clean electric trains from Basel, even magazines hanging in the carriages.
I rode this train last week from Milan to Lugano. The Swiss trains are truly in a league of their own. I greatly enjoyed how modern and spacious they were, especially when compared to some of the trains I took in Southern Italy.
Even as it is a 'glorified FLIRT' from a technichal view (it shares indeed many parts), I totally love the Giruno! It has only two drawbacks: it doesn't operate on the routes I use on a daily basis and SBB has far too few of them on stock😇 Announcements: they are done in german and italian on Ticino bound trains and german and french on trains bound for western Switzerland. And vice versa off course. English is on top on all international and intercity trains. However there are no multi language announcements on regional and Interregio-trains, as long as the do not cross a language border. If they cross language borders, you'll even find multi-language announcements on S-Bahn trains. And on the interegios, where the announcements are not from a record but done by the conductor, it heavily depends on her/his mood and language skills🙈🙃
I discover your channel with this video and I might want to see every single one!!! As a very regular user of the SBB trains (I live in Lausanne) it's great to hear a foreigner's point of view on our trains and our services, because we are so used to that high level of service, with everything clean, and usable, that we sometimes focus on the things that don't work or don't go well and we forget that compared to other countries, there's no way we can complain
SBB really is the best. One time, We were 6 minutes late into Zürich and the station manager was out apologising for the delay. Amazing levels of punctuality.
People have already commented about the announcements, but basically it's always the local language first, followed by the language of departure / arrival (in case it's different) and English last. Therefore for you trip it would have been Italian - German - English before the Gotthard, and German - Italian - English after. If you pay close attention, you can also notice that the 3-notes jingle before the announcements is different when the train is in a particular region: in Ticino it plays the musical notes F-F-E flat (FFEs), in the German part it plays E flat-B flat-B flat (EsBB) and finally in the French part it plays C-F-F (CFF).
08:25 Thats what i like about the SBB/CFF/FFS - the language changes from region to region! Typical you´ll mostly hear German and English every time! And then, from region to region French or Italien :-D Some times it even change during the tour. Starting: German, French, English, and suddenly its French, German, English! Sometimes all 4 languages! And sometimes it´s German, Italian and French!
My first time watching your channel. A very well-made and informative video. Not bombarded with information but some useful tips, and letting the camera tell the story. I'm a massive fan of Switzerland and its railways - a member of the UK-based Swiss Railways Society. My favourite Swiss train or route? Gosh, so hard to pick only one. I'll cheat and pick one standard and one metre gauge. On the standard gauge, the BLS old Lotschberg route just pips the old Gotthard route. Note, the new base tunnels on both routes are amazing engineering and really speed up long distance journeys but, as you say in this video, the old routes have the scenery. On the metre gauge, its got to be the entire Bernina Express route from Chur to Tirano.
Thank you, nonstop eurotrip! You travel well. For us, second class will be sufficient. I find the train to be spacious and wide, I like that. Plus, it's modern. The landscapes shown are magnificent. It's adorable as anything. Thank you, nonstop eurotrip!
Nice video. I like these Giruno, but nowadays I have to say my favorite Swiss trains (appart from glacier express, etc) are the traverso (Flirt 4) from SOB. So well designed with all the comodities you would want inside, big windows and excelent confort. The trip from Zurich or Luzern on the old Gothard line to Ticino on these trains is a must for anyone that enjoys train travel. Also a note on the confort in these trains 2nd class vs 1st class, usually 2nd class is also pretty confortable, but, and this is a big but for me in Switzerland, 2nd class can get really crowded due to the fact that most trains don't have seat reservation, if you get a train that's full you might not have a seat and place to put your bags for example. And this happens a LOT. In summer or during holidays you might want to consider going 1st class just for the space you usually have available and a seated place.
Also absolutely cracking trains! I'll have a video coming up on these soon 🙂 I agree about the reservations, I was on an absolutely packed giruno too (in second), just an 11-car set, first was only maybe half full though 👍🏻
I love the traversos, but they’ve been having issues on the IR35 route. In the past two weeks we’ve been delayed by three times 20-40 mins due to problems with the train.
@@jorgestravels wen you go north from Arth-Goldau the line split in two, if you go north-west you go to Lucerne, if you go north-east you go to Zug and Zürich. The line section connecting Arth-Goldau, Zug, Zurich and St.Gallen is well know to be the most broblematic due to the general tightness off the route, frequent problems with weather and vegetation and high Swiss maintenance requirements at the Bahn Strecke 2000 which is the tunneling section the line use in order to enter Zürich Hbf. I personally know a lot of people that prefer to go via Lucerne for going to Zurich or St.Gallen.
@@lucasstocker5055 oh those problems, I thought you where referring to problems with rolling stock, like the trains not working properly. The high density of trains on that section really brings some problems, but at least around Zurich they have done some improvements on the lines, the worst situation I think nowadays is really around Lausanne-Geneve, so many problems and no easy solution in view.
The plattforms are the right height! The train has different floor hights to accomodate the diffrent plattform hights in Switzerland, Italy and Germany. Some doors are for the higher plattforms, some for the lower. because of this you always have some doors that are to low or to high. Other trains like the SOB FLIRT trains you mentioned also are low floor but they fit on all doors as they don't exit Switzerland. (Also these copper colored SOB trains are only technically FLIRT 4 sets, they are actually called Traverso and are really liked by the public)
I don't agree, you can see thar at the boarding the platforem level in Lugano is lower than the lowest step of the train. That means it's not even 55 cm high. So it's not the right height. It's written in the video that platform gets higher in the middle, so it's probably only an old unrefurbished extension for some very long trains.
The only train i have seen that looks wide enough for wheelchair users to navigate. Usually you get put in a spot and no access to others parts of the train. Thank you for showing the disabled section. No one else bothers. Really appreciate it.
Very nice video! I experienced this Giruno trainsets in summer 2021 and i realy loved them. Also the SOB flirt was a very great train. My favourit route must be the old Gotthard mountain route between Arth Goldau and Bellinzona. Just marvelous!!
8:25 Do the languages vary by route? Why yes, they actually do! Even the jingles change when entering the other language-speaking territories! Usually, the order follows the current speaking country, followed by the language where the train started and maybe at last English too as a non official language, however still useful for popular tourist destinations. Let’s say you start from Lugano and arrive in Zurich. You’d get your FFS jingle, Italian, German, English. When you arrive in a german-speaking area of Switzerland, you’ll get your SBB jingle, German, Italian, English. Please do correct me if the order of the languages always stay the same from the departure area ❤😊
Another great video! I appreciate your attention to wheelchair accessibility, both in the station and on-board. I am very impressed (but not surprised) that the Swiss have wheelchair spaces in First and Second classes. It shows a commitment to accessibility to offer wheelchair users the same choices as everyone.
Great video, favourite train the WAB up to Wengen from Lauterbrunnen, but that's mainly because I am so happy visiting Wengen, Trains in Switzerland are so much easier to board these days, no huge climb up from the platforms, much of this is due to the Swiss trying to make everywhere accessible for the disabled which as resulted in most platforms throught the country being raised from their original levels to a point where there is minimal height difference between train floor and platform. Language wise the trains to Jungfraujoch also give out information in Japanese (maybe Chinese now as well) due to the number of tourists from those areas, English was chosen as so many people learn English as either a first or second language now making it a good choice for tourist anouncements
I can recommend the "golden pass belle epoche". It starts in the Bernese Alps (Zweisimmen) and leads to Montreux on Lake Geneva. The view during the ride down to Montruex is beautiful. It's also great that there is no reservation fee for the 30s-style train.
Great video many thanks. I've watched many RUclips videos featuring these Girunos passing by, so it was good to have your review of them. I'll certainly look forward to riding in one next time we're in Switzerland.
I enjoy your videos. They remind me of my working days a couple of decades ago. Trains were absolutely the best way to get around Europe. Your comment "those houses look expensive" was spot on. I don't know how it works today, but back then, even small houses in Switzerland could cost $1 million or more. There were 99-year mortgages that legally bound your family (children and grandchildren) to pay them off. Better have lots of children!
I travelled onboard one of these from Venice to Arth-Goldau but I don't like the seats too much, they aren't the comfiest SBB has. My Personal Favorites are the ones Built into the ETR 610 and the Giruno ones are probably last in Swiss long distance travel. But apart from the Seat the train is very nice.
Great video, thanks. I have travelled from Zurich to Lugano many times over the classic route but never through the base tunnel. There are so many Swiss rail routes that are scenic, makes it hard to choose. The classic Gotthard route has got to be my favourite followed by the SBB/Sudostbahn journey from Luzern to St. Gallen via Rapperswil. Also from Montreux to Geneva and Zurich to Lausanne and the Montreux Oberland Bahn from Montreux to Zweisimmen.
Thank you for showing the wheelchair spaces and accessibility features in your videos. As a wheelchair user myself this is very informative and good to see.
Regarding the platform at 15:55, you were in one of the only two doors per trainset that are at the same height of the (standard swiss) platform, at 55 cm height. The reason why all other doors are higher (e.g. have a step to board) is because this train can travel to Germany where the platforms are at 76 cm. If you noticed, the two lower doors are located in the only two coaches having two doors each (per side) and wheelchair accessible toilet (these are the two passengers coach near the restaurant, one 1st and one 2nd class). This allows a wheelchair to board and disembark everywhere (CH or DE) as long as they remain in that carriage. When this train stops in a german station, all doors are at platform level, except the two at 55 cm that will remain closed in Germany. Happy travel.
Swiss trains are da booooooooooooomb! Been there two times, both fantastic experiences. Never been to the Italian-speaking part of the country tho, which of course is in my bucket list ♥
Loved the look of these trains, inside and outside. The scenery is wonderful, like you say this seems like a given in Swiss trips. The price is definitely higher than I expected but I guess with discounted fares is not so bad.
My favorite Swiss train has to be the RABDe 500 “ICN” or InterCity Tilting Train. I love the mood, it’s very comfy with the imo best 1st class I’ve ever been in. All units are currently getting refurbished and they operate mainly in western Switzerland. Definitely check one out if you get the chance!
We've done this journey several times as tourists, both driving and by train. Our first train journeys were on the old TEE sets, very comfortable indeed. In the pre-tunnel days, the trip between Lugarno and Bellinzona did take longer, but for unhurried tourists the scenery more than made up for the extra time. Given the choice, we'd catch the train rather than drive.
I'm glad you enjoyed the ride! Next time you go to Lugano, take a look at the short line to Ponte Tresa (ferrovia lugano ponte tresa FLP) that starts just outside the main station. I think they have just got some new trains.
I live on this line. the service is not fully migrated, so there is still a chance you get the the old train. IC2000 trains have been in Lugano for around a year. Switzerland has lots of trains.. always something new somewhere :D
Great video! Re your question about trilingual announcements - that’s certainly the case on all EC/IC-class services in Switzerland, and Geneva/Zurich suburban lines. Not sure about other local routes. The primary language does change dependent on region though (you may have noticed as you travelled north that Italian was announced first at the start of your trip, but this will likely have switched during the journey)
Announcements on board the train: In French-speaking Switzerland, of course, these are primarily in French and, in the Engadine, also Rhaeto-Romansh. South of the Bernina I have never heard announcements in the language spoken in Poschiavo, even though the names of the streets in Poschiavo are in the local language.
Great video!!!! and indeed, Switzerland does have plethora of routes with magnificent sceneries and damn that chips are way too expensive but at the end of the day it's Switzerland. 😂
Thank you for an excellent video ! I agree, the Giruna is a superb train, and really is wonderful for long distance travel. The seats are similar to those in the SBB IC2000 carriages, and is all the better for that ! Many thanks.
The reason is because of Ticino canton official language is Italian. That's same like if the train goes to French speaking region like Genève and Lausanne, it will have three languages announcement too (German - French - English)
Lake Lucerne = Vierwaldstättersee, Lac des Quatre Cantons. In Arth-Goldau correspondance for Lucerne (Anschluss nach Luzern). That's why he stops there. Deswegen hält er in diesem kleinen Ort. ÖBB Railjets are at the same level of comfort and cleaness as Giruno. Beides sind Spitzenprodukte, einmal von Stadler, und dann von Siemens. Arrival on time: "En Suisse les trains sont à l'heure". Gutes Video. Danke für die Mühe.
Fantastic looking train!! Great first class product. Sorry the rainy weather spoiled the beginning of your journey. Switzerland really does have beautiful scenery. Thanks Max for a great review!!😀😀♥️♥️
I must say modern swiss trains are incredibly fast and comfortable to travel in.But we shouldn't forget the contribution of older electric locomotives of sbb such as ae4/7,be4/6,re4/4,re620,ae6/6 and the crocodile locomotives in the development of Swiss railways. After 2000 sbb opted for only trainsets and re460 locomotives as part of the Bahn 2000 project,so I guess these are the last passenger locomotives still in service and will be there for many more years to come. But still I miss the old electric locomotive hauled trains, railcars and diesel railcars.Neverthless your video is mindblowing.Swiss trains are truly enchanting
We have ridden many, many trains in Switzerland. SBB and all of the partner lines do such a fantastice job ! I joke with my friends that if a Swiss train leaves "off schedule", it's because it leaves two seconds early. And yes, I do not mean to leave OBB/Railjet out of things. It is a wonderful line as well. We have taken it many times and have been impressed each and every time. OBB does have a better Seniors/discount program, but they are both ser gute. As far as our favorite route ? Impossible to say, there are so many. For "regular" travel, the Brunig Line between Luzerne and Interlaken Ost is very, very, nice. As far as actual "trains" ? The cogwheel train up to Gornergrat above Zermatt is fantastic ! But, don't just ride that only, there are many, many more gorgeous routes.
Several years ago in Arth-Goldau station they announced the one minute delay (sic) of a night express coming from Stuttgart and bound for Milano Centrale and Lecce. Here in Italy (apart from South Tyrol) up to 5' of delay are considered perfect on time!
We did a tour a few years back and rode the RHB out of Chur most days. That is a great meter gauge train in Switzerland. I highly recommend it. Going thru small towns connecting with hiking trails and great places to take on the scenery. Great video of Swiss rail service. Thanks for posting.
5:26 for our future trip planned, we will be coming from Varenna, taking the Ferry to Lugano Centrale then catch the train to Zurich. Is it a long walk from the Centrale to the train station? First time to travel there. Need your advise. Thanks!
My favourite trip ist the "Gotthard Bergstrecke" (not trough the long tunnel, but over the mountain route). My favourite-train is exactly the train, that drives on this route, the golden STADLER Flirt. (You can see it at 15:27) Great video, I'm very happy, that you like the trains here! Greetings from Switzerland 🇨🇭 :)
You asked for comments Language. The first announcement is in the language of the region, followed by the others, and on main trains, English. Timings. Switzerland is renowned for its rail connectivity and cross-platform changes of train are a blessing. This made a long trip from Zurich to Milan's Malpensa airport an easy and rewarding journey. Costs. Switzerland IS expensive. Be prepared. Worth every CHF franc. Favourite lines. Four: Glacier Express, Jungfrau, Golden Pass Panorama, Pilatus. But even minor lines reveal so much of the beauty, the orderliness that makes travel in Switzerland a total pleasure. Thank you for your comprehensive trip report.
Europe has always been a great railway haven. I live in California and am eagerly watching and waiting for the High Speed Rail system that will tie all of the major cities in the state together. But as you know Politics and money rule the game and that's a shame. Still I enjoy watching great railroad experiences. I have fond memories of the days I rode the trains here in the USA.
Wow! Just found this video from a recommendation. I am thoroughly impressed! Good length and I like how you showed the bathroom and kitchen areas. I was glad to see the various storage compartment and test the cushions on the seat as well. I like how you showed the map in the beginning and walked around a bit for the outtro. This is very good editing! I was however curious to hear the announcements in all three languages rather than just the English. Overall I still think this is A+ quality and the combination of the overcast rain and the train sounds had a very much ASMR vibe to it :)
The Giruno has doors at two different levels for travelling to Germany since the have higher platforms. Most doors correspond to German platforms (with two sliding steps for Switzerland and Germany) while wheelchair accessible doors correspond to Swiss platforms.
If you are a Swiss citizen or live in Switzerland, you can even order tickets and reserve seats via your smartphone. On the train itself, you can present your ticket on your smartphone. As a Swiss citizen or resident, you can also buy a 1/2 price season ticket.
Great video once again, thanks, good to see dining cars open. When I traveled last summer with my 30 day rail pass, Italy didn't have their bar car/restaurants open. I couldn't even get a beer. I had to bring my own on. I wonder if their open yet? Thanks again
My favourite route, at least on the standard gauge, is this one between Zurich and Lugano. But not through the base tunnels, which I find tedious, but 'over the top'. The views are spectacular. Yes it is a lot slower, but so much more interesting. Probably heresy to say this here, but just the once I've actually flown from Lugano to Zurich. Who knew Switzerland had internal flights?. And that is pretty spectacular too, with a completely different view of the Alps. Not sure the airline I flew with (Darwin) are still in business though.
Damn Switzerland trains look like a James bond Strapped with everything inside Neat, clean, and everything provided inside I expect this from Switzerland Easily one of the best countries in Europe after Germany The Swiss really look after their people Each compartment look like a first class tier This train system might get a rare Armed to the teeth badge 📛 🔥🔥🔥
Riding on the SBB can be quite relaxing. The laying of the tracks and the care given to detail (as I have first hand witnessed in Bern, when they laid some tracks there on the west side headed to Kerzers) is so precise that it makes for such an enjoyable quiet ride and sometimes you just don't realize how fast you are traveling. The locomotive looks nice and aerodynamic and it is a mixed bag to travel through the Gotthard Base Tunnel as you will not see the beautiful mountain scenery that is on either side of the above shorter Gotthard Train Tunnel, but you are compensated by gaining a drastic savings of time! Thank you for the video and I look forward to more. Hopp Schwiez. BTW if you have the time and want to go on the older above-route train, probably now an S-Bahn (local stops) you just need allow more time for your trip. It is worth the time to take to see the mountains and there is one or two loops where the train loops above where you have already been below. Fantastic scenery and it should be less crowded than the old days when it was the main ICE.
@@NonstopEurotrip Thanks for getting back so quickly to me....A quick note; I just looked at the Swiss Rail Map and there are actually five loops, (four loops south of the older higher Gotthard Tunnel that are in Ticino between Sobrio and Airolo, and one loop just north of the north portal of that same cantonal dividing tunnel around Wassen, with first a very tight reverse S-curve just before entering that final loop heading north. I myself who have been on that route at least 6 times, did not realize how many loops, (where the trains loops over or under the tracks it had just been traveling on in the previous five minutes or so), are really on this older stretch.
Hey mate. On the Giruno you can recline on First and Second class your seats to allow more comfortable travelling. In my opinion both first and second class seats are on the firm side. I think the IC2000 Wagons are comfortable ( NON Revised wagons ) And for sure the EW IV is the most comfortable wagon/train SBB has
Of course the level boarding depends on the platform height. Girune even uses twin-level boarding (see the carriage where you boarded - one door is lower 55 cm for Italy/Switzerland, one higher 76 cm probably for future Germany services), but obviously that platform extension at Lugano still has older height. Probably used only for very long trains. A little railway joke: Giruno should have got the factory name "SEX" so Stadler could have had the whole "trio" (Flirt, Kiss and Sex). It could have been an acronym for "Super Express" what Giruno actually is. Sadly, they named it "SMILE" (Schneller Mehrsystemfähiger Innovativer Leichter Expresszug) and broke the joke :) The flagship of SBB is in my opinion still the IC 2000 double decker push-pull train. It even has a children's playground inside! They recently refurbished those coaches, you can see at 19:05 two refurbished ones, with the control car having the playground inside and so having special colour scheme indicating it.
Dito much prefer the IC2000, especially when you travel in the evening like in the middle of the upper floor or downstairs they're so silent and smooth I had many nice dreams in them when I had to go 1 hour to business school everyday for a couple of years.
@@NonstopEurotrip So I hope you got a pear of an IC2000 not that I'm getting old 😁, business school was just a few year after they went into service... how time flies.
Thanks for the great video! The design of the train is very nice. Though I hear squirking noise continuously, probably from the bogies when taking curves. From my experience, the suspension and sound isolation of Stadler train tend to pretty poor, compared to their counterparts such as TGV, ICE, RAILJET etc.
Announcements are always German and English with French and Italian depending on the Region you’re passing through. On Regional Trains Rhb through the Canton of Grison the announcement is also in Romantsch
Cafe car is very smart. That is my favorite car on any train - a time to mix and mingle and share tall tales over cocktails or an ice cold beer. Regardless of menu most vloggers sip Coke or Pepsi which must the global beverage of choice.

SBB really is the best. One time, We were 6 minutes late into Zürich and the station manager was out apologising for the delay. Amazing levels of punctuality.
That's the Swiss 😄🇨🇭
They have to do it,when they more delayed than 2:59Min.!Sometimes they do it too, when 1-2Min, delayed, mostly when some German Tourist in the Train!😉
Thanks! That's very interesting 😊
08:25 Thats what i like about the SBB/CFF/FFS - the language changes from region to region!
Typical you´ll mostly hear German and English every time! And then, from region to region French or Italien :-D
Some times it even change during the tour. Starting: German, French, English, and suddenly its French, German, English!
Sometimes all 4 languages! And sometimes it´s German, Italian and French!
Indeed yes!
Thanks for your lovely comment! 🙏🏻 Great choices, you should check out my Bernina video 😃🇨🇭
Thank you, nonstop eurotrip! You travel well. For us, second class will be sufficient. I find the train to be spacious and wide, I like that. Plus, it's modern. The landscapes shown are magnificent. It's adorable as anything. Thank you, nonstop eurotrip!
Yay you liked this video Louis 😄 Honestly one of my favourite trains 🚆🇨🇭
@@wildcraftone Really? didn't know about these. Do you know what kind of problems?
Those trains in Switzerland are beautiful and incredible. Keep up the good work as always ☺️
Thank you Andrew 🙏🏻
@@NonstopEurotrip You are welcome 😊
We rided the Bernina Express from Tirano to Chur and then the Intercity to Zurich. Great experience unforgettable. Hug from Buenos Aires 🇨🇭🇦🇷👍
It absolutely it 😄🇨🇭
The plattforms are the right height!
Interesting to know, thanks 😊👍🏻🇨🇭
I don't agree, you can see thar at the boarding the platforem level in Lugano is lower than the lowest step of the train. That means it's not even 55 cm high. So it's not the right height. It's written in the video that platform gets higher in the middle, so it's probably only an old unrefurbished extension for some very long trains.
I been in Switzerland three years ago , just amazing country , with so nice view . Like in paradise
Oh absolutely 😊
Thanks so much 🙏🏻
The only train i have seen that looks wide enough for wheelchair users to navigate. Usually you get put in a spot and no access to others parts of the train. Thank you for showing the disabled section. No one else bothers. Really appreciate it.
You're welcome 🙂
Very nice video!
I experienced this Giruno trainsets in summer 2021 and i realy loved them. Also the SOB flirt was a very great train. My favourit route must be the old Gotthard mountain route between Arth Goldau and Bellinzona. Just marvelous!!
Oh yes!!!! Amazing route 👍🏻😀
The train was immaculate. Great scenery. Four stars.
They do vary, yes. I honestly I don't know how 😂
Wow, this is ythe most stylish train I have ever scene, travelling through gorgeous scenery. Thanks for this vid!
Pretty good isn't it? 😀🇨🇭
i take it every day for work :)
Another great video! I appreciate your attention to wheelchair accessibility, both in the station and on-board. I am very impressed (but not surprised) that the Swiss have wheelchair spaces in First and Second classes. It shows a commitment to accessibility to offer wheelchair users the same choices as everyone.
Thank you! Thats lovely to hear and I'm glad you appreciate it 🙂
Great video, favourite train the WAB up to Wengen from Lauterbrunnen, but that's mainly because I am so happy visiting Wengen, Trains in Switzerland are so much easier to board these days, no huge climb up from the platforms, much of this is due to the Swiss trying to make everywhere accessible for the disabled which as resulted in most platforms throught the country being raised from their original levels to a point where there is minimal height difference between train floor and platform. Language wise the trains to Jungfraujoch also give out information in Japanese (maybe Chinese now as well) due to the number of tourists from those areas, English was chosen as so many people learn English as either a first or second language now making it a good choice for tourist anouncements
Thanks for the information 😊🇨🇭
Two favourites: Centovallibahn with opening window set and Bernina Express in an Aussichstwagen- not comfortable but totally exhilarating!
I've done both, and you're right 😁
I can recommend the "golden pass belle epoche". It starts in the Bernese Alps (Zweisimmen) and leads to Montreux on Lake Geneva. The view during the ride down to Montruex is beautiful. It's also great that there is no reservation fee for the 30s-style train.
It's definitely on my to-do list 😀
Great video many thanks. I've watched many RUclips videos featuring these Girunos passing by, so it was good to have your review of them. I'll certainly look forward to riding in one next time we're in Switzerland.
Glad you enjoyed it 🙂
I enjoy your videos.
Wow that's crazy! Don't think I'll ever live in Switzerland 🇨🇭🤣
I find these seats and legroom especially much better on this train than the Astoro Pendolino 😎🇨🇭
Ah thanks Chris! I've got lots more filmed in Switzerland, but still do much to do! I love it 🤩
Thank you for showing the wheelchair spaces and accessibility features in your videos. As a wheelchair user myself this is very informative and good to see.
I always try to 👍🏻☺️
Regarding the platform at 15:55, you were in one of the only two doors per trainset that are at the same height of the (standard swiss) platform, at 55 cm height.
Thanks for the information!!; 👍🏻😃
@@NonstopEurotrip Pleasure :). Happy travel!
Swiss trains are da booooooooooooomb! Been there two times, both fantastic experiences. Never been to the Italian-speaking part of the country tho, which of course is in my bucket list ♥
Absolutely da bomb 😂🇨🇭
What a lovely trip…..and lovely train! One can only dream 😭. Thanks for taking those is us who will never have a chance, along with you 😊
Glad you enjoyed it Sonja 😊
Loved the look of these trains, inside and outside. The scenery is wonderful, like you say this seems like a given in Swiss trips. The price is definitely higher than I expected but I guess with discounted fares is not so bad.
Completely agree, they're excellent! 🙏🏻🇨🇭
Already filmed it 🥰🇨🇭
The Giruno is one of my favorite trains in Switzerland! Beautiful from the outside and from within!
It really is!
Many many years ago I travelled extensively by train around Switzerland. I recall going from Lausanne to Brig as one of my favourite routes!!! (1989)
I've done this already 🇨🇭😁
We've done this journey several times as tourists, both driving and by train. Our first train journeys were on the old TEE sets, very comfortable indeed. In the pre-tunnel days, the trip between Lugarno and Bellinzona did take longer, but for unhurried tourists the scenery more than made up for the extra time. Given the choice, we'd catch the train rather than drive.
I'd much prefer the trip without not tunnels but hey, progress I guess! You can at least still do the 'scenic routes' too 🇨🇭😄
It seems like a good experience. I miss the older trains though. The train was part of the adventure.
Times a changin' 😂

Yeah....I hear ya. Don't get me wrong. I would still have to check it out. It's a Train
I'm glad you enjoyed the ride! Next time you go to Lugano, take a look at the short line to Ponte Tresa (ferrovia lugano ponte tresa FLP) that starts just outside the main station. I think they have just got some new trains.
I did take a ride before 😄🇨🇭
I live on this line. the service is not fully migrated, so there is still a chance you get the the old train.
Ah thanks Mike! 🙏🏻 I tend to tune out to anything that isn't English lol 😂
Nice train! Fast and clean! Super video! 😁👍🇷🇴
Absolutely yes 😁
Announcements on board the train: In French-speaking Switzerland, of course, these are primarily in French and, in the Engadine, also Rhaeto-Romansh. South of the Bernina I have never heard announcements in the language spoken in Poschiavo, even though the names of the streets in Poschiavo are in the local language.
Great video!!!! and indeed, Switzerland does have plethora of routes with magnificent sceneries and damn that chips are way too expensive but at the end of the day it's Switzerland. 😂
Thanks mate, you're right. Scenic and expensive 😂🇨🇭 And congratulations on getting your highspeed train badge, and for all your support 🚄🙏🏻
Thank you for an excellent video ! I agree, the Giruna is a superb train, and really is wonderful for long distance travel. The seats are similar to those in the SBB IC2000 carriages, and is all the better for that ! Many thanks.
Thank you Anthony, nothing more to add! Glad you enjoyed it ☺️🚄🇨🇭
The reason is because of Ticino canton official language is Italian. That's same like if the train goes to French speaking region like Genève and Lausanne, it will have three languages announcement too (German - French - English)
Ah thank you 🙏🏻
Lake Lucerne = Vierwaldstättersee, Lac des Quatre Cantons.
Thank you 🙏🏻
Fantastic looking train!! Great first class product. Sorry the rainy weather spoiled the beginning of your journey. Switzerland really does have beautiful scenery.
Thanks Max for a great review!!😀😀♥️♥️
Thanks Scott! Switzerland is INSANE 😃🇨🇭
@@NonstopEurotrip thank you Max. I have friends in Switzerland who are retired Swiss Railway employees who might agree with you.😀♥️
I must say modern swiss trains are incredibly fast and comfortable to travel in.But we shouldn't forget the contribution of older electric locomotives of sbb such as ae4/7,be4/6,re4/4,re620,ae6/6 and the crocodile locomotives in the development of Swiss railways.
Superbe vidéo comme d'habitude. Salutations depuis la Suisse.
Thank you 🙏🏻
We have ridden many, many trains in Switzerland.
Great choices and thanks for sharing ☺️🙏🏻
Several years ago in Arth-Goldau station they announced the one minute delay (sic) of a night express coming from Stuttgart and bound for Milano Centrale and Lecce. Here in Italy (apart from South Tyrol) up to 5' of delay are considered perfect on time!
This is now near the top of my list, as you say it is a pricey country to visit but the views are priceless, excellent video, please keep them coming.
I will try my best!!! 😄
Nice vlog! Great presentation. Very nice and scenic rail route .

We did a tour a few years back and rode the RHB out of Chur most days. That is a great meter gauge train in Switzerland. I highly recommend it. Going thru small towns connecting with hiking trails and great places to take on the scenery.

5:26 for our future trip planned, we will be coming from Varenna, taking the Ferry to Lugano Centrale then catch the train to Zurich. Is it a long walk from the Centrale to the train station? First time to travel there. Need your advise. Thanks!
Around a 10 min walk. There's also a funicular
@@NonstopEurotrip thank you!!
My favourite trip ist the "Gotthard Bergstrecke" (not trough the long tunnel, but over the mountain route). My favourite-train is exactly the train, that drives on this route, the golden STADLER Flirt. (You can see it at 15:27)

I agree Swiss trains and scenery are the best. In 2010 I rode narrow gauge trains all over Switzerland and that excursion was simply amazing.
If only the USA had such magnificent trains!!
Would be nice, eh 😀

Language.

I hope it does happen, one day!!
Glad you enjoyed it! Be sure to check out my others ☺️

I agree about 'over the top', have done it quite a few times, amazing!
Darwin is long gone.
Damn Switzerland trains look like a James bond
Strapped with everything inside
Neat,clean,and everything provided inside
I expect this from Switzerland
Easily one of the best countries in Europe after Germany
The Swiss really look after their people
Each compartment look like a first class tier

🇨🇭🇨🇭🇨🇭
I've done the old route, and yes it's definitely worth doing! Thank you 🙏🏻
@@NonstopEurotrip Thanks for getting back so quickly to me....A quick note; I just looked at the Swiss Rail Map and there are actually five loops, (four loops south of the older higher Gotthard Tunnel that are in Ticino between Sobrio and Airolo, and one loop just north of the north portal of that same cantonal dividing tunnel around Wassen, with first a very tight reverse S-curve just before entering that final loop heading north. I myself who have been on that route at least 6 times, did not realize how many loops, (where the trains loops over or under the tracks it had just been traveling on in the previous five minutes or so), are really on this older stretch.
@@jameswoods9238 It's an absolute marvel of engineering!!! 😍
Hey mate.
On the Giruno you can recline on First and Second class your seats to allow more comfortable travelling.
In my opinion both first and second class seats are on the firm side. I think the IC2000 Wagons are comfortable ( NON Revised wagons )
And for sure the EW IV is the most comfortable wagon/train SBB has
Ah thank you 🙏🏻 I'm s fab of the seats, maybe I like them more supportive lol 🇨🇭
Sadly, they named it "SMILE" (Schneller Mehrsystemfähiger Innovativer Leichter Expresszug) and broke the joke :)
The flagship of SBB is in my opinion still the IC 2000 double decker push-pull train. It even has a children's playground inside! They recently refurbished those coaches, you can see at 19:05 two refurbished ones, with the control car having the playground inside and so having special colour scheme indicating it.
You're so knowledgeable Marko 🙏🏻😀
Dito much prefer the IC2000, especially when you travel in the evening like in the middle of the upper floor or downstairs they're so silent and smooth I had many nice dreams in them when I had to go 1 hour to business school everyday for a couple of years.
@@gentuxable I found them quite rattly 😂
@@NonstopEurotrip So I hope you got a pear of an IC2000 not that I'm getting old 😁, business school was just a few year after they went into service... how time flies.
Thanks for the great video! The design of the train is very nice. Though I hear squirking noise continuously, probably from the bogies when taking curves. From my experience, the suspension and sound isolation of Stadler train tend to pretty poor, compared to their counterparts such as TGV, ICE, RAILJET etc.
Yes you are right but some noises are actually the interconnecting coach doors opening and closing 😂🇨🇭
