Great Job!! Amazing what communities can do when they come together.
The tidal water level diff is a big problem, and a well known phenomenon for mobile operators who need to serve islands 5-40km from the main land. The solution to this is to install two microwave links on top of each other vertically separated, and aggregate the two. With this even during the tidal wave, one link will always perform nicely, while the other may slow down (or even loose connection). And when the tide is over, you can also exploit the extra speed of the two links. Of course this is not realistic for a single customer, but if your uplink is doing that, it might worth to consider it.

Yes, the method is know as spatial antenna diversity in the field of rf engineering. We use this for redundancy in weather conditions and for transmission over bodies of water. Naval rf is another story ...
@@motormadness9975 I think the problem would be that they don't have 15' for that diversity. I was thinking the same thing when the tidal problem came up. We used frequency and space diversity when shooting over water.

Never the less, great work. Glad to see they’ve moved beyond DSL. When I was there getting an analog cell phone to work was challenging enough, half the time you’d be on Roger’s network and they’d nail you with international roaming.

Ideas are born for gifted people thanks for giving approvals for effective ideas. Atlist it helps alot now. I'm very thankful that ideas is possible and not just imaginary. Uhf really gives more signal than any signals converting it is the difficult part. It burst internet signals.

@@emusp Cheaper, easy, scalable... I mean... Nagios is cool! but they let their thing get obsolete. And if you use Ansible to provision them or make configuration changes the sky it's the limit.

I say why not use some conduit an place it in the tree it self so you can get high enough to increase the strength of signal or etc. You could fill the conduit with concrete to help make it less bendable an almost certainly help in wind issues. An also attach an empty piece to the side of the concreted conduit so can run the wires . You could also use straps to fix it to the side of the tree. Or bailing wire. That to me could help make repairs cheap for your users. An possibly help you all to eventually build real towers in those place .

Virtually no lightening in that part of the country. I think the lowest anywhere in the US.

I want a brief video to setup ISP in detail manner both wired and wireless. And distribution of internet for each how to regulate speed.
google RADIUS or better DIAMETER, Radius will get you off the ground significantly cheaper quicker and require less knowledge but the wireless UDP issues will be a mess for larger networks. For a cheap NAS i recommend the Mikrotik units they do a very good job at regulating internet.
PPPOE is a common protocol for smaller ISP
you can build a full ISP to support a few users for under $500.

I never said a few users, but RADIUS will handle ~45,000, so maybe that is just a few.

Me and a friend have started a similar thing to this...only 12 user so far...but I'm sure it will increase. We don't have water to contend with...rather steep mountain peaks, and isolated valleys - and trees =)...using all ubiquiti stuff as well

Andrew Johnston man, I have the same situation. my city has 100mbps connection using fibr, but I live in the mountains with high trees, fibr won't reach us, I want to start p2p wisp for my community. can you share your gear? I'd like to buy tested setups. thanks.
My neighborhood needs it for 72 homes in the forest. The forest blocks microwave ethernet. Carlson Technologies makes a TV whitespace (TVWS) Non line of sight (NLOS) radio with 25Mbps bandwidth. Its in the 610Mhz to 700Mhz unlicensed (old analog TV) band that will bend around trees and over hills. I haven't tried it yet. Its expensive with a $500 for a client radio cost. That is almost twice the price of installing fiber ourselves. Getting bandwidth is very difficult to deliver. I've contracted all the companies that I though would have bandwidth and they said no. I talked to gigibitnow.com and they said they can force fiber owners to give prices. The minimum bandwidth available was 1Gbps (enough for 1000 homes) for $3500/month. That's over $48/month for 72 homes and after adding repaying fiber and equipment rentals I start to worry about what percentage can't afford that. Friends say that direct burial fiber can have is outer plastic shield will breakdown after 10-20 years, so put the fiber in conduit instead. GPON fiber can use passive splinters (no power needed) to split the signal to support up to 127 homes for up to 12 miles. So then you only need to have power at the homes and at where you get your internet delivered to your neighborhood. I did talk to StarTouch Communications. They microwave in their signal but it would interfere with the local cell phone tower and don't go thru trees - so a new tower with lights and power would be needed.

Quite expensive. Thousands just in equipment for your ISP equipment & antennas. And then the first of customer premises equipment. Read ubiquiti forms on google to get started.
A few hundred bucks to start. Ubiquiti is quite inexpensive.

Steven Bruce With a sector, you could do 30-50 clients and a sector plus radio head will run you maybe around 300$ if you find them third party and then you need a client which is $150 depending on the brand. And if you can’t afford dedicated, you can always do business class internet to start for a couple 10s more than residential grade internet.

Dude kudos to you for the nice work. Just one thing since you say you have money coming in and can eventually bring cost down. Why don't you leave them alone and convert to fiber to the home using a PON system. You could even provide catv with it. Remember PON systems allow multiple customers over single fibers.

Because runnin fiber in the ROW in the US is mad money. I know companys who got govt grants to do updates... they did 1 town in the county next to mine.. and they said never again! My little town is going to be stuck with crap cable that goes out multiple times a day due to interference. At least until I sign my tower lease and hike my ass up there. Ubiquiti sucks though. Its cheap... thats it.
@@marcburns508How about fiber to the pole then. Put radios at different locations with fiber to that hub the radios could provide a 5G signal to anyone for data or cell...I think Verizon and T-Mobile use that for internet to the home plans

Rain is not much of an issue. About .2db.

providers now. Startouch Broadband, and Rockisland Communications. We have our network gateways setup to split traffic between them(on website)

It depends on how many hops you are away on their network, but 40, 20, and 10 Mbps are the speeds mentioned on their website. And that's synchronous - they're not saying (like commercial ISPs do) 'if you are providing data to someone you should charge them and give us our cut by buying a business connection that costs 10x as much for 1/10th the speed'. With no transfer caps. And no throttling. These guys are going a stellar job and they really make the large ISPs look like the joke they are. The Internet needs to be a regulated public utility like water service is. The cost needs to be tied directly to the ACTUAL cost of providing the service (and since this is tech, that means it will rapidly drop while increasing in performance) with a legally mandated limit on the profit the utility company can make. And since utilities like that end up owned by municipal companies (not gigantic global media distribution companies), we'd have less worries about spying as well. When a fed shows up asking to spy on locals in towns, it doesn't go down nearly as easily as when they show up to Giant Company X who has the federal government as one of their biggest customers.

If you have excess money, why not ask for a vote? If the users want to receive it back as credit, or if they would like to upgrade (maybe run fiber underwater across the waterway, and have the microwave be a backup).

I am trying to get some pricing for crossing a lagoon. the cable itself is not that expensive it is around for 12 core 0.12/meter submarine cable. I needed 30 KM which is around 6000 USD. however getting someone to drop it was another thing

Get linux working on business applications, 5-10 minutes of job, everything is ordered or designed to run linux. Come to the desktop or especially laptop side, your mind will be blown by how painful it was to setup nvidia hardware up until the 440 release so it was actually kind of an achievement to make most of the stuff in linux on desktop side, but nowadays even my hardcore non-linux compatible laptop (cp1215 printer, broadcom bcm4352 wifi, nvidia gtx 860m) supports linux out of the box, seeing that processing in the community and support from the companies is kind of prouding and satisfactory. It's basically like feminism, you would just tell it over and over again in most of the places out of nowhere if you are trying to convince the people to become feminists, but you wouldn't care about having a title for yourself if you and people around you are all feminists that have already put the women and men are and should be equal standard in their lifes.

Anybody guide me how to make our own internet
There are many ways to do it. Ranging from the translation method as seen in the video. To actually buying blocks of IP addresses from a provider and forwarding them to your clients. To actually registering as an autonomous system and buy IP address directly from the register. The last one is the optimal way of doing it but has a bit of a learning curve associated with it.

don't use a tree for a pylon or place to put a box... first off you're ruining the tree and potentially ruining the saw that's cutting up the tree down the line and that tree might fall right when you need internet/phonelines the most..
