Excellent video. Love this type of content. I get a lot of ideas from you guys vlogging like this. Real nice of you to give a shoutout to everyone who worked with you on the gig.
This was a great video Vlog. You really helped give an overview of everything it takes to pull off this type of shoot. Thanks so much for sharing and being transparent.
Absolutely! There are plenty of moving pieces. It does make it difficult to keep track of every detail. But it is great seeing everything come together at the end.
Cool seeing you meet up with PDMokry….I watch all the videos both of you guys put out. The next video on my channel should be a remote collab I did with David Morefield. One of the coolest things about doing this (and the main reason I do it) is the network you make with other filmmakers who also happen to put out RUclips content.
Sounds good! Can't wait to watch it. Absolutely! I love being able to network with people all over the country. It so cool seeing different perspectives. Thanks so much for watching!
I would love to see more of the final product (the final shots). Can you also share settings of ND for the 2nd location? Was that fixed setting or auto ND setting with same aperture and ISO over the whole day?
They are launching the project later this year. I don't think the post is completed yet. I had about 2 stops of ND on all the cameras. The native ISO on the FS5 is 2000 in SLOG 3. I had all cameras at 2000 ISO. This was my setup pretty much the whole day. Thanks for watching!!!
Wowza! another great BTS vid, Joel. Great planning from from start to finish! Are those the 18" or 24" Husky bags you are using to carry built cameras?
Great video Joel, thanks from another longtime FS5 user/fan! I don't do this kind of work, but really interesting to see a proper BTS of the project. Super jealous of the amount of real estate space you have to load out from at home. It's not like that in our little English town! Beautiful.. Thanks again! Subbed BTW.
Great video! Which SD card reader are you using? I’m in need of a high speed SD card reader however don’t want to spend £££ on the Sony one! Cheers, Dan
Nice!!! What type of monitors (if any) did you use on the FS5's that were set up for wireless video? Also, with your FS5's do you record internally, or on an external recorder?
I was using a combination of a few different monitors. The ones with the wireless I was using a Atomos Ninja flame and a 5in feel-world both monitors have and HDMI out that I used to feed the wireless transmitters. I used the internally record with the FS5's. Thanks for watching!!!
Great question! I have a pretty good rolodex but if i'm going to a new city I will usually ask on my IG if anyone knows anyone in that area. Always try to get a recommendation before searching cold. Im also a member of AOD and they have a pretty good database as well. Thanks for watching!!!
Great question!! I shot all cameras at SLOG-3 4k. The FS5's I tweaked color in the PP settings to match the FX3's the TV I was using I was able to tweak the color and contrast for client so they didn't have to look at a flat SLOG-3 image.
Im using these cables from Kondor Blue - amzn.to/3Ze2M8b They connect via D-tap and then you can use a usb c cable to power the FX3. This will keep the camera powered constantly without draining the internal sony battery. Thanks for watching!!!
Depends on how much diffusion you need. A simple White Artificial Silk would be a great all round option. www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/99341-REG/Matthews_319403_8x8_Overhead_Fabric.html/?ap=y&ap=y&smp=y&smp=y&lsft=BI%3A514&gclid=Cj0KCQjwi7GnBhDXARIsAFLvH4mZ9-2GkAKKSjjOZzDt74ceufQ1Iv-sTv9ibHUCuE5hdKhMbW6G4hgaAkvpEALw_wcB
Yeah! Definitely a long drive but not so bad. I don't mind road tripping. Im pretty used it it by now. As the long as the client is willing to cover travel costs and travel days I'm good!
im a film school student at full sail university. I live in Memphis and recently got a Sony fx6. any advice on getting work even if im just a p.a on a set im trying to work
That's awesome, man! It's all about networking to get more work. When I first moved to Arkansas, I got in touch with all the local ad agencies and production companies. I put together a quick email offering my service as a cam op or DP all-around general help. It was slow to start. Honestly, I picked the worst time to network. Peak COVID 2019-2020 Eventually, I started to connect with everyone, and they started giving me work. If I were you, I would do the same thing! Hopefully that helps! Thanks for watching!!!
18:17 This may be out of date But I see you dumping UHS-II cards using a UHS-I card reader If you use a UHS-II card reader you would get much faster transfer speeds
Definitely this will go to my “how to film” playlist and share it with my church. I appreciate so much that you share your experiences with us
First! It was great meeting and having dinner! Next one is on me!
Great detail in the video!
Awesome Bro! Great meeting you as well! Thanks for giving me a tour of your van setup! Great stuff.

You bet! Thanks for watching!!
Great inside in this job! Can highly recommend the program Hedge for people doing data, especially with this amount of camera’s!
Awesome! Thanks so much! Yes, Im definitely going to check out Hedge. Would love a good software to help with DIT.
Thank you for sharing!
My pleasure! Thanks so much for watching!
This is awesome work man. I’m lookin to get into the field and I’m in the San Antonio area I hope to be skilled enough to work with you one day.
You can do it! It's a great field to get into for sure. Best of luck and thanks for watching!
Always a pleasure seeing you upload again Joel
I thought that was David Morefield for a sec 12:53 😂
Thanks so much!! That's so funny. Would be an epic shoot to have David apart of. Would love to work with him. Hopefully one day.
Awesome Video! Had a blast with you on set!! Can’t wait to do more work in the future!
Same here! Thanks for making it happen bro!!!

Glad you enjoyed it! I appreciate the support! Always Gotta give the crew credit. Everyone did a great job. Thanks for watching!
Absolutely love your detailed insight Joel. Really breaking down these complex shoots into understandable terms.
Thanks David! I appreciate you supporting my channel! Hopefully we can work together one day. Would be an awesome vlog!
@@JoelGabrielsenindeed. I’m not sure how far away you are but I’m thinking of a Dallas meetup soon.
@@davidmorefield Dude! I would make the drive and stay the night. Would be totally worth it.

You got it! Thanks so much for watching!!! I appreciate it.
That van loadout is looking fire! Great idea with the work site bags used as Dr. style shoot bags for your rigs!
Thanks Matt!! Definitely always tweaking to be more efficient. The work bags are working really well so far! No complaints. Thanks for watching!
Love seeing the content. Big job.. I find those challenging to keep track of everything need to make them run smoothly.
Absolutely! There are plenty of moving pieces. It does make it difficult to keep track of every detail. But it is great seeing everything come together at the end.
Great BTS, great set up!
Thanks!!!

Great job man. I'm loving these vlogs. Hey could you do a video explaining the multicam monitor setup?
Thanks so much! Absolutely! I will try and incorporate the setup into a future video!
@@JoelGabrielsen Awesome. Thanks.

Can you do a video on your process of using the ATEM recording as a reference track?
That's a great idea! I will cover that topic in a future video for sure.
Thanks!!!

SD cards are slow what ever the reader , once you use the CFA cards its hard to go back to SD

Did you shoot s-cinetone on FX3 and Venice look on FS5? Or slog3 on both? How’d you color balance in camera?
Great question!! I shot all cameras at SLOG-3 4k. The FS5's I tweaked color in the PP settings to match the FX3's the TV I was using I was able to tweak the color and contrast for client so they didn't have to look at a flat SLOG-3 image.
What t bar support did you use for that silk?
Im using a photography background bar - amzn.to/3FXXG73
I'll use a grip head and Cardellini Clamp to secure the pole. Thanks for watching!
@@JoelGabrielsen that’s great to know. Thank you for the info!
How are you powering your FX3 from external v-mount/gold mount batteries? Are you using a D-Tap solution, or USB? Thank you in advance.
