    Thank you for your video. Just changed the brake pads on my daughters Ford- couldn’t have done it without your instructions.

    Great video, easy to follow instructions. Now I don’t get embarrassed pulling up to a red light

    Yep, looks like a brake job to me. Great job. I do not remember if I put a grease on those parts or not. It has been many years ago that I did my last brake job. Thanks for the video.

    you're here because you gotta do a break job on a ford focus and you want to make sure there's nothing major you need to know.

    I noticed the inner pad had a little metal tab on it and when you put on the new ones you put the one with the tab on the outer. How much, if any, difference could that make? I already did mine and I think I put both ones with tabs on the same side because I did even notice it was there until I mostly done with the second side.

    i’m changing my brakes soon, awesome video, just wondering if the grease is necessary and if so then what kind of grease.

    Mine has a weird bolt I have to turn inside to even get my break pad in. I am lost. The tool is apparently only available at a Ford dealership nobody sells it and I hate the dealership

    I plan on getting grease, but this is just a curiosity question. How bad would it be if I chose to not use the grease? Would anything outside of squeaking and noises happen?

      The brake pads need to be able to slide back and forth along the bracket. Without lubrication they may get stuck and possibly make continuous contact with the rotor, which would be as if you slightly had your foot on the brake pedal at all times. That's the worst-case scenario.

    I can’t fit these damn pads on to save my life.

    Hey man I just did the brakes on my focus except I didn't grease Anythink and now the brakes are insanely sticky it's honestly like you're holding your foot on the brake pedal while driving could it be because I didn't grease it I guess??????

    • @hanksgarage_
      @hanksgarage_  2 года назад

      Yea you need to grease all the contact points.

      Did you figure it out? Did you open the brake reservoir cap when you pushed in the caliper Pistons? There's a few reasons why the brakes may stick and drag after a pad replacement. Did you clean out and re-grease the slide bores? How was the side surface of the caliper piston before you pushed it back in the caliper?

    • @sdm7577
      @sdm7577 2 года назад

      Everything that you have suggested I have done and it didn't seem like it was sticking anymore but then when I went for a drive and came back one of the brake pads the inside one was smoking and it was extremely hot so I'm thinking maybe it must be the caliper itself I guess

      @@sdm7577 At that point I would guess the same. That you have an issue with the Calliber and should replace it.

      @@sdm7577 sounds like the inboard pad is getting lodged in the clips and caliper bracket grooves. It can get stuck at an angle if those ridges and ledges for the clips aren't grinded/sanded before greasing. It's possible the caliper may have debris and galling of the bore and piston but if it pushed in easy then it should retract when you let off the brakes. Those weird metal tangs that come riveted to the pads on top and bottom actually help the pad push away from the rotor a bit once the piston retracts so the pad isn't left dragging on the rotor hard. Make sure those metal tangs are perfectly centered in between the new clips that should've been installed onto the caliper mount bracket. I would remove your caliper and CAREFULLY push the piston out some so you can see if it comes out easy. Then you can pull the dust boot back a bit and see if the piston is all pitted or roughed up around the edge. Only replace the caliper if that is seriously rusted, pitted or nicked up behind the dust boot. If it's a little rough try to buff it with chrome polish and a rag or an Emery cloth. I like polish better. When that piston retracts back into the bore those metal tangs on the pads should push them away from the rotor ever so slightly to reduce drag. You'll see they do it when assembling everything after a proper sand and grease of the contact points. You may also need to bleed that caliper once and don't let the fluid get low while doing it.
