In this Jazz Piano Tutorial I demonstrate a simple but very smooth and jazzy way to play the Jazz Standard Summertime (by Gershwin).
It uses a number of widely used Jazz Piano techniques such as rootless voicings, three note voicings, passing chords, and, of course, improvisation. Enjoy!

This Rootless Voicings are very important!
Thank you so much!
I Always questioned why you talked so much about your vídeos. However now that I see the translation I understand what it says about the songs and I consider your considerations relevant.
Thanks.
If i ever manage to become an even remotely competent jazz pianist it'll be all because of you. Even if you dont teach all there is to learn, you're the only one with explanations clear enough that make me want to stick with it rather than run back to my classic sheet music with my tail between my legs.
I watched all yours videos, they saved me from depression in quarentine, thank you so much...
Greetings from Mexico, ajua!
Free lessons, what a world...
This is awesome. I know music theory and guitar etc., just not so familiar w piano. This hits the sweet spot between instructional and inspirational .
Perfect verbiage ~ sweet spot between instructional and inspirational !!
I only watch these videos to see you play. Plus I might start playing piano again. Thanks for motivating me.

I learned so much watching this. Thank you. Looks like you can always add the 2 on a rootless 7th?
Merci pour vos explications

Thank you!!! 🤍
Very motivating. Greetings from Brazil. Maybe u can do some Tom Jobim besides Girl of Ipanema? Road to the Sun (Estrada do Sol) never done jazz style before. Would be fantastic
Nice Thank You
ur just the best
Great! Thanks
Great comping! I couldn’t find the written sheet in the link (it leads to “be-bop explained” instead :-(
I really like your approach. And I love Summertime. However, the first line is supposed to be alternating between Am7 and Bb7. But then, you say it's Am9 and Bb9 (and indeed, that's what you play). So, as a beginner, I keep getting confused.
In fact, a rootless 7 chord should consist of three notes. But according to the chart in the upper left corner, they are all four notes. So, they can't be rootless 7s; I guess they are all 9s. Or am I missing something? After all, I *am* a beginner.
You can play all the song before you start teaching, i think is more hopefully, please!
Cool, thank you!
Can anyone explain how that is an E7 chord?
It seems to have a flattened 3rd and a flattened 6th, which I've never seen in a 7 chord. Pretty sure I'm making some mistake but can anyone tell me what?
What's the reason for the Bm7b5 and E7#9?
Great stuff tx
is this key "as performed" by coltrane in My Favorite Things?
Ten thumbs up 👍
In the Bm7b5, why is the C in there and why wouldn't it be a c# :)
why is it called Rootless Am7 and not CM7?
JUST starting....only my 3rd week trying learn.....what I can't understand is the the Am7 seems to me to be the same notes as the Cmaj chord....what am I missing?
C major has the notes C-E-G. Am7 has the notes A-C-E-G.
What is the G considered in the E7 chord here? A flat 3rd?
That's the #9
I don't have that Tipe of Pino
Did you use sustain pedal?
If so, can you explain how you use the pedal for this lesson?
I think thats easy to hear. If the notes are ringing but the fingers arent on the matching keys, thats the pedal.
👍
Pls chords!!
