The speaker grills on the bottom are fake. There's only one speaker on the right side. JerryRigEverything did a teardown video. Also, there is like a plastic sticker covering the bottom, top, and somebody the back. You can peel it off.

Just for clarification, the Hydrogen One is not equipped with any special Red camera's. This phone is actually equipped with off-the-self Sony camera's.

Those "reviewers" nowadays can't say anything bad about the phone without being afraid of getting their sponsorships pulled. So it ends with reviews being biased or inaccurate. I appreciate the fact that Linus most of the time doesn't give a shit about that.

Marquees is an optimistic person and has been a huge fan of RED for a long time. He's seen prototypes of the phone and knows the potential that RED has in the smartphone industry. Linus, in my eyes, is pessimistic. To clarify my second sentence, when the i9 and X299 were first revealed Linus was basically saying that it's a waste of money. He was saying that there's no real need to upgrade from Kaby Lake, as it has the same architecture as Kaby Lake and is merely Kaby Lake on a bigger socket with a higher TDP. Then, when Intel sponsored his review on the series a couple of weeks later he legit took everything back, labeled his review as "unbiased" and then proceeded to recommend the Extreme Series. When the video was first uploaded people were commenting "Well, he has a family to feed." I can provide the links to the videos if you truly desire. As much as I truly enjoy watching Linus' videos, he cares about sponsorships and is willing to go against his own opinion to please these companies.

1. That i9 review was not sponsored at all. If it were, it'd be disclosed in the title and at the start of the video. Besides, sponsored reviews are stupid, and he knows this. I think you're confusing this with the fact that Linus discussed his criticisms with Intel, which he did mention in the video.
2. Nowhere in that review did he ever recommend it. What he *did* say in the end was that it was a "great release" because AMD and Intel are leapfrogging each other, providing some exciting competition between the two again.

@@jier9904 true. Also the iPhone and pixel doesn’t have real dynamic range or bokeh. It’s heavily preprocessed by the phone software. The red phone skips that and leaves it normal.

I think it's gotten to the point now where every phone does phone calls so well that it's not even worth covering anymore. You can buy a $29 prepaid phone that makes calls so it's pointless to spend more than that it if it's all you need it for.

Linus did you know that those arent even red cameras on the phone? There from an oem.
More specifically, Sony imx sensors.
Red does not produce sensors small enough to fit into a phone, and even if they did choose to put their smallest sensor on the back of the phone, the sensor itself would cost more than the full MSRP of the phone.
Sony IMX sensors are great sensors for what they are and most flagship phones any more use the same image sensors. Differences in image quality has to do with the software rather than the hardware.

This year is a repeat of 2012 i swear. We got a folding phone and a holographic phone. Is that not exactly like rumors and concepts from the early 2010s?
Yeah, the only thing is , they're now possible that's why companies are using them, it's like the note edge, everyone called it gimmicky and just a stupid concept, but here we are with the infinity display as a norm, so companies are trying their own things
To be fair, Samsung has been working on the foldable phone for more than a decade to show how the Amoled display can be flexible. I believe they made a concept ad at around 2012 and they're just starting to reveal the final product. Nobody really made a foldable phone without cutting a half of the display. Well, there was one that got recently released but it pretty much sucked. I have high hopes for Samsung's own foldable phone.

Reminded me of my old HTC Evo 3D which I had like 5 years ago? The 3D screen was exactly as linus said a gimmick ... You show it to you friends, they play with it for 5 minutes and then move on, but the phone is left in your pocket afterwards, not theirs :P Also you can't share any of 3D photos, because 3D displays are not a standard (THANK GOD!!!). So you are left alone in your own small world with your 3D gimmick, congrats ...
The battery on mine balooned and could have possibly exploded in my pocket. Good thing the touchscreen started failing before that happened.

Also bottom right part of the display was malfunctioning and charging port got loose by long time usage. In the end I traded this technically dead phone as a trade-in bonus for my S9, for what I got 100€ discount ... VERI NAICE! 'Suuuuh dude! *dab*
You don't get it. On the RH1, the screen is only 3D when you turn that aspect of it on. And the photos are truly immersive as is the video. NO ONE I have showed mine to, has said it was gimmicky. Most have said they planned to buy one. That included some photographers who plan to work with it in 2D as its a superior camera for that as well.
@@JamesCohenCaravan so it was on the EVO 3D, ofc assuming 5 years back, so lower res. But what do you need that for? a few minutes of bragging rights? You won't be able to upload your 3D pictures anywhere, no social media etc. You can just directly send them as a file to other RH1 owners (or other 3D display owners). You can have your little 3D 2k18 cult but that's about it, the rest of the world will not join. About the 2D superior camera, Linus debunked it kinda well, that even when "flat" looking images can be a good start for editing, this is not a RAW format picture, just a bad JPG.
I still have a bunch of 3d pics and videos from that phone. I think I'm going to check if there is a way I can play them back in VR.

Yeah, Samsung used to make stripped down specialized electronics based off their phones, like the Galaxy Music Player, which was just a Galaxy phone without the phone. And someone who would want a professional camera they can make phone calls on, probably wouldn't care about a thicker device anyway if it had a real optical camera and whatnot.

Ahh I thought I was seeing things. Im far from a professional image editor or anything, but that Pixel 3 always had the best overall pictures, to my eyes. I liked having all 4 lined up to compare, that's quite nice.
I've had a Pixel 2 for almost a year now. I am constantly amazed that I have such a good camera in my pocket. I use it for youtube video clips and it looks as good at 1080p60 as anything else you'll see at that resolution.

I use the "Dark reader" plugin on both Chrome and Firefox and it's sooo nice. It makes every website background dark (Those that don't have a dark mode) with options to whitelist sites that don't need it ✌🏼

I hope this is meant as a joke.
The 3d effect you are referring to, and the notice nintendo puts on the 3ds was due to a media freakout about the technology causing discomfort in some people. To my knowledge no actual studies have been done as to the long term effects of the display tech on human eyes, let alone the eyes of developing children.
That being said, I don't think that it is wise to allow younger children to use portable devices of any kind for extended periods of time, but that is not based on facts, it is more of a cautionary attitude.

My Pixel 2 has been great and the camera blows my mind everytime I use it and then check it out on my PC. I love the images, the videos... it's great. They even managed to finally fix the annoying crashing with a software update (I was about to RMA the thing before Pie dropped and fixed the Camera... somehow). I'll run this phone until it dies... seriously glad than when I went back to Android that I picked this phone.
I think this phone would have been great even with all of its flaws if the camera had been amazing. I hope the modular stuff can save it.
If the camera on the RED phone was actually using a RED sensor.
@@SuperMario1005 You can't physically fit a red sensor in a phone that size. It would have to be an inch thick, at least. And no, I don't think Red would make a smaller sensor. Small sensors are garbage. If they are smart, they wouldn't put their name on a tiny little sensor. I have a feeling that an add on with a much larger sensor is coming in the future. Reviewing the phone now is premature. Though red did botch the launch.
@@herranton I don't see RED ever making a sensor the size that would fit in the main body of a phone. But if they make a smallER sensor than their current ones, like APS-C size, or micro four thirds, and stick that sensor in the camera module with a standard lens mount, I think there is HUGE potential here to redefine how midrange cameras function. Imagine being able to upgrade the processing and the sensor on your camera independently. Imagine having a full mobile OS on there which could be used to control sliders and gimbals and booms, or stitch/overlay multiple exposures on the device, or have any other function added through downloading an app. Imagine having all the versatility and modularity of a full cinema camera, or even more, on a device the size of a mirrorless. I think there is real potential for a device like that to become truly ubiquitous in film crews and to a somewhat lesser degree regular consumers too.
@@herrantonI think if a company such as RED made their own "smartphone sensors" they would be much better than the ones out today in other phones. To me thats the whole point of RED releasing a phone... It should have their own cameras in it obviously.

The camera might be great, but Google just don't innovate anymore (and so say people that left that company) - they are busy racing against Apple with their bullshit notches, with removing hardware, with insisting on their obnoxious white design being the only practical design there is (they used to have a dark mode in earlier Android versions; today with their Material Design it's apparently much harder? wtf? Even Apple has a dark mode now!!), the design of the phone itself looks atrocious to me, at least on the images they market - like those self-driving toy cars I'd be ashamed to be seen inside of.
As much as Samsung are pissing me off in their software department, at least they show SOME sort of "let's give them a choice" attitude with pretty good hardware. I used to be a Nexus fanboy, but with what they did with the 6P battery issues and their downward spiral with the Pixel, I'm not going to support their phones anymore. The Galaxy Note gives me more bang for the buck.

I do like that it has a rugged chassis and headphone jack. Those 2 and a bigger battery seem to be missing from the whole smartphone market for some reason.
I don't need some fancy gestures. I can live without fingerprint scanning and face recognition. I don't really need good speakers on a phone, they're always going to be far worse than even cheap headphones anyway. I don't need NFC or the absolute fastest this or that. I CERTAINLY don't need it to be thinner, or even as thin as they currently are.
Can someone PLEASE just make a phone with: Good OLED screen, durable chassis so I don't need a case, and a high capacity battery? Good camera is a plus. Headphone jack, required. The internals can be from up to 2 years ago for all I care. The top of the line stuff isn't going to make a big enough difference for me to want to compromise on the things I listed. They're far more important in daily use. Do they not realize that most people use a case anyway, so they can just make the phone up to as big as a phone with a case so that there's room for high durability and more battery, and then I don't need a case, so the size doesn't even affect anyone that would use a case.

Alex Walker It's Google's software that makes the pictures so good, most flagship phones have comparable cameras. It's the processing algorithms that make the difference. None can compare to a proper pro camera though
