Well back to asking again lol....you called me out on a misspell last time so I will careful this time. Connor MacLeod's Katana from the original Highlander movie. Damn I been asking for this for over five years now lol. Anyways you guys do great work....I started seeing you man at arms and your still kicking ass.
@@Paradox-vk9fe soon!
@@ThatWorks i love the connor idea. Any chance for the magic sword from legend of zelda II the Adventure of Link? The photo on the game cartridge.
@@ThatWorks looking forward to it. I was tempted to ask for the kurgans sword just because its bad ass but its not a realistic build. I think the hilt would be the part the interests me the most. Its not a traditional katana
Matt, thank you so much for listing all the artists you interacted with! We usually have to beg content creators for that, but you guys give so much back to the blade community we didn't need to ask.
Ilya wore a Hentai hoodie to Blade Show, thats freakin hilarious lol What a Champion lol
totally a mad lad
I'm kinda disapointed that he didn't wear it when he recieved his prize
Weebs: Press F for Respect.
The morning after he won the award, that hoodie went on and didn’t come off for the rest of Blade
LOVE IT HAHAHAHHAHAA
Indeed! a man of culture!
Illya really walked into Bladeshow in an ahegao hoodie and won best sword lmao. Truly a man to look up to.
I was looking for someone to mention his hoodie.
I'm SHOOK
I see you are a man of culture yourself...
This is the comment o was looking for
A man of culture with no ducks to give
Best phrase ever? "They were alcoholing me severely."
Must prove the alcohol capacity of a Slav!
@@ScottKenny1978 I would not dare face him.
@@NikkLiberos I'm Scottish, and I will not get in a drinking contest with a Slav!
Amazing right ?!
@@ThatWorks If you guys are ever in Cincinnati, I'll challenge any comers to a drinking contest, my treat!
For crying out loud @Ilya, PLEASE make more history themed videos, I loved and enjoyed those as much as I enjoy breathing! :D
Seconding this!
On it!
@@ThatWorks
Can you elaborate what it. Is that you mean by "history themed" video? I assure you that there is a vast chasm between the expectations of the viewers and results of my research. Consequently it is difficult for me to justify making an untruthful presentation simply to confirm peoples opinions.
Sorry for the typo.
That flamberge is gorgeous, great job Matt! But the Heretic? Holy shit I'm blown away, Ilya really nailed the theme and design, absolutely stunning 😍
As a heretic myself, I’m in love with Ilya’s work
Love how Ilya supports and compliments Matt who seems a little down
What is this Opposite Day ?
Ilya is so humble - he builds a magnificent sword that could probably slay the Lord himself, with artwork so beautiful that the kings of old would be fighting over to have it.
And then he says "I guess it is at least good enough so that I can show it to people that are better than me :-D I love you guys, can't wait for the full build video.
After talking to Ilya I can agree.
He's cool and mature man that I enjoyed talking to
Thanks for including me in the video! You somehow managed to keep me from looking too awkward. It was good to talk to you both and see your work in person.
It was tough ;)
Lol, I bet!
Ilya's hoodie is the best part of the show!
Very cultured, as expected.
TRUE SHIT
Honestly the ahegao hoodie shook me.
Was not expecting that
So Illya made a sword out of spite just to prove it's nothing hard for him to do, added an amethyst as a joke, wore a aheago anime hoodie and then landed a best sword award. Storyline made out of pure gold (or mosaic damascus :D ). Love u guys :D
Great to see Will Stelter get a shoutout. I'm enjoying seeing him build up his channel now that he's moved out on his own.
Man the way the light plays on the wavy sword, is actually breathtaking.
Now that´s an absolute beauty of a sword. Hope the pair gets some pictures together, as the Inquisitor judges the Heretic.
Maybe tie the heretic up on an unlit pyre for the theatrics
Hope it won't be exterminatus.
We are trying to make that happen soon
Ilya in that Ahegao sweater next to Will must be one of the most ridiculous scenes I could imagine... amazing!
It's Ilya making a sword. We'll watch regardless.
This!
No lies detected
"I made the mosaic Damascus PURLY out of spite" Lmao that's why I like you
The fact that you made Sebastian in just three weeks only adds to the impression. Historically artisans constantly worked under time constraints and achieved a wonderful mix of love and disdain for the material. Making something that gorgeous in such a short time is worthy of the highest praise.
lmfao ilya constantly pestering him is the best
Mmmmmmhmmm
Will is a legendary fella! The guy next to him is Jason of Fireball Tools. He’s a damn fine machinist if you ever need something fabricated. His shop is INSANE.
If you don't subscribe to his channel, check out Alex Steele. He and Will collaborated on some awesome projects in the Montana shop, before Will set out on his own once again. Jason and Fireball Tools are the best too.
That's Water jet and Go Kart Grinder RIPS!
I love knives and swords but I am definitely in the wrong tax bracket to afford this stuff.
Love the swords. Matt I believe in you man, put your mind to it and get that Mastersmith stamp!
Quick Note: There's some overlapping audio at around the 17:28 mark and lasts about 5 seconds.
Weird.
i got it too
Ha, I just thought it was Ilya talking over Matt again
Ilya is one of the most humble, and yet most OP bladesmith's I think i've ever witnessed. The guy can do no wrong with his sheer level of skill and knowledge. Theres being passionate for a craft, and then theres Ilya's level of passion way at the end.
Dang Ilya. The Heretic there looks great. You deserve that Best Sword.
I love the banter between the two of you, I've missed it hahahaha.
The win was more than deserved congrats
26:40 Ilya: "its not hard for me to make Damascus but you kept asking so out of spite i made some mosaic Damascus" while holding some of the best pattern Damascus I've ever seen...
this man truly deserves the title of Master blacksmith
You'll do great, Matt. That Journeyman Smith stamp is yours, when you go for it.
Congradufuckinglations boys, Matt that thing is insane man the polish, grind, and hand guard is just wow no other words but wow. Ilya once again, your themes engraving, jem settings overall design is breathtaking. Both these sword are only deserving to be wielded by gods. We all bow in aww of your mastery. Love you guys, thanks for bringing entertainment and aspirations into all of our lives
Thank you so much!
Pretty cool to see Will pop up in this vid. He makes some pretty incredible and beautiful chef knives. Very talented young man.
Ilya is arguably one of the best master smiths in the world! I am sure he forged Excalibur in one of his previous incarnations. Simply amazing. Thank you so much for the video.
Infact pretty sure he really did this before...
@@MrWTPunk I am very certain as well. Some skills in life are carried with us through space and time. This is why some people are born with their skills…Thank you and be safe
@@BabakPATotally agree. Maybe there is also something more than karma, like a type of energy which is simply destined to craft, one to hunt, one to manage... People who are craftsmen are imo really ancient spirits. Like, we dont forge because we have hands, but we have hands because we need to hold the hammer, according to the core of our being.
Wish you the best
@@MrWTPunk Thank you my friend. You said it so beautifully. I agree totally. Every time I see Ilya or Matt forge I can almost feel how they go into a trance and access the akashic records within their soul. I think this world is in desperate need for these fantastic people with their magic and how readily they can access their power through dimensions, and time.
This was indeed a pleasure. I look forward to your future videos. God Bless
Congratulations Ilya. That is stunning and well deserved. And the fact that your PEERS picked you. Just amazing
Well done and congrats! Loved seeing the callout of Will being a good human.
As someone sitting on my couch: Iliya you have worked with Wootz Steel / True Damascus before. That would be something really awesome for next year that not many people have.
Yes! I only know of one Smith that knows how to make true wootz. Would love to see what he could do with it.
I thought the process for making wootz steel from india used in the original damascus died out in the 1800?
@@wpjohn91 it did however since then some Smith's have figured it out. There were nine that figured it out but one died and one retired. Most of the others make it in small quantities because the process is still intensive
Man Ilya, that is one gorgeous sword. I cannot wait to see the full video on the Heretic. What little you showed of it took my breath away. I really, really love how you blended form and function. It takes real skill to be able to make something that ornate without making it gaudy. I can only imagine how pleased the owner is. Seriously, incredible work.
Matt, that hilt is amazing. It's very elegant without being overdone. It makes me wonder what you could have done if you spent more time working on your project. I'll be looking forward to seeing what you come up with for next Bladeshow. I'm terrible at managing my time, so I have no room to talk, but I hope you'll spend more time working on whatever you choose to make for the show next year.
I love the way both of your pieces reflect your strengths as bladesmiths, Ilya of course has a beautifully engraved work of art, and Matt has a piece that only a grinder of his skill could pull of in 3 weeks the man is a surgeon with a belt grinder
It's so lovely to see artists smiling from behind their art.
CONGRATS Ilya - that’s absolutely fantastic!!! Very well deserved!!!
The memory of most of us lasts as long as those that know our stories.
Yours, my friend is etched in steel.
I admire the amount of admiration and respect @thatworks has for their peers of all skill levels at such shows. The community seems very positive and supportive of each other.
This video makes my heart happy. You guys are amazing makers, as well as people. Wishing you all the wellness and inspiration on your journey to Blade Show 2022 and beyond!!!
@Ilya, congrats for winning Best Sword! That sword is absolutely stunning!
Man Ilyas sword is something fit for a Primarch, definitely would suit the Blood Angels motif, not just because of the ruby, the whole engraving just screams Baal. One might guess by what they were inspired
I can see Sanguinius rocking that. Although it’s very pretty so I can also see it in Fulgrims hands too.
lmao, so Alec Steele misses another blade show because he's out of the country. Cool seeing Will Stelter, he honestly just seems like a really nice person, love watching his newer videos now that he has his own shop.
Hahaha Matt and Ilya bickering like an old married couple is the best thing ever 😆 Gorgeous sword as always Ilya!
Both of your guys' swords are absolutely stunning. They rightfully belong in some serious collections to be admired for generations. Looking forward to more gents!
Congrats to Ilya for the win, you earned it. And Matt you made a really nice sword in the time you took to work on it.
Also is it just me or is Ilya kinda like Matt's "forge dad" or "forge wife" always encouraging/nagging at him to "do better" or "you should have listened", lol. You can see that he really wants you to do better and improve yourself thought which is awesome to have in a friend.
Matt, that flamberge is gorgeous!!! The blade almost looks like crystal... 🤯
Ilya, congratulations on the "Best Blade" award! I think an award like that from your peers is worth more than some "the audience thinks you're pretty"
From what I saw so far that sword's an absolute stunner, Ilya. No need to undersell your work. It's a deserved win.
So nice to see you guys back at it again! Makes me inspired to finish a few blades that have been languishing in my shop for the last 12 months.
Each time I see this level of skill and craftsmanship my brain always says "fit for a King". Even in these modern times I can't really think of a higher compliment. Incredible work guys, thanks for inspiring artist everywhere.
beautiful Swords
and thanks again for forging the Castlevania's Morning Star Epic chain of honor
Love watching process videos. Beautiful pieces! Love the traditional Smithing, and the breakdown of historical techniques.
got to love Ilya his love of history and its inspirations is really enjoyable to listen to
Seeing the progression of Ilya's sword if there were anything I would ever feel was a sure bet would be betting on that sword winning. Finding out he won was like someone telling me what color my own car is... Like yeah I know lol. Matt's Sword is nothing short of a masterpiece in it's own right too.
It was great to see your swords in person, and I was honored to hold Matt's sword.
I really love the way you credited the other craftsmen you saw there ! Classy move.
Really looking forward to the videos on these two swords! Excellent job fellas!
I've been following you two for years. So glad you guys had a good time at bladeshow. Keep up the good work. Congratulations illya, you deserve that award. Love your blade too Matt. Take care guys
Ya'll have really outdone yourselves this year. Those are some truly incredible pieces, and really reflect both of your individual strengths and styles. Honestly Matt, I have no idea how you made such a beautiful sword in just three weeks.
No way! I wait every year for your blade show videos. Always look forward to seeing your work guys, awesome stuff
Congratulations Ilya!!! About time. Keep up the great work!
A well deserved win! Congratulations Ilya!
Awesome work guys! thanks for sharing.
17:28 had me looking to see what other tab I had open talking about S shaped guards.
Congratulations Ilya! Beautiful piece.
I can't believe the skill and craftsmanship you guys have ..just jaw dropping work ..
Great work ya'll. It's so cool to see how far yall have come.
I didn't even consider how the pandemic affecting things for makers such as yourselves, glad yall have weathered the storm so far.
I'm drinking a cold beer after a long day of work to your future successes. Inspiring!
I'm so proud of both of you, just an incredible achievement. ♥️
Congrats Ilya!!! Amazing work both of you!
Congratulations Ilya, looking forward to the build video.
Congratulations to Iliya on his win at Blade Show 2021. It's an absolutely gorgeous piece.
Can I become an apprentice with forging
The swords you bladessmiths presented are absolute masterpieces !!! such attention too detail, Just Amazing !!
Matt, I saw your sword at the show. The camera does not do it justice. Had I known that was done in a matter of weeks I'd likely fell on the floor. Fantastic job!
Thank you! You are far too kind
Congratulations Ilya, that's a beautiful sword. Can't wait to see the making of video.
Look forward to a best sword and best dagger next year! It was cool of you guys to highlight a bunch of other smiths in your video.
I wanna see Ilya make a German executioner sword in the style of heretic/inquisitor with nice Damaskus and a lot of engraving as it has a lot of space on the blade
Congrats Ilya its well deserved my man!! Your work is always top notch!
Nice to see you guys having some nice words for Will. I found him through his work time with Alec, and enjoyed his work as much as his amazing personality. Good guy!
Also I'm happy to have found you two here. I missed your old blacksmithing show, and sometimes wondered where you went. It's good to know you are still going strong!
Have just seen Kyle Royer's vid, with shout out to Ilya's hammer...!
beautiful swards! Thank You!
It pisses me off that this doesn't have over a million views. These swords are nothing short of masterpieces.
The making of Ilya's Sword does have over a mil if that makes you feel good
Congratulations Ilya, well earned, beautiful work.
wow Illya congratulations your work truly speaks for itself
Congratulations to y'all and those are masterpieces to me. You guys rock and there were all nice pieces on the video! Rock on!
Gents that historical info has left me wanting much MORE. looking forward to watching that build 😀
Awesome congratulations and well done both of you very excited to see the historic rapier make can’t wait 🤘
Congrats for Ilya, The Heretic is simply an amazing looking sword, totally deserved its win for SOTY.
I am so glad that you guys planning on making a much more historically accurate or a proper functional/we proportion design weapons. Hopefully maybe even redesigning some Over The Top Design weapons to a much more appropriate ones or taking weird design historical weapons into you guys own twists.
26:24 Ilya "Remember No Russian"
Sebastian look incredible! You should really be proud, Matt! Wow! And, of course, Ilya, your work is stunning. Can't wait for the full video on it!
Beautiful swords, and congrats Ilya!
Awesome video! Also 2 exceptional swords. I am looking forward to the historical Rapier build.
Поздравляю, Илья!!!! Заслуженная награда-заслуженному мастеру!!!!
I'm not surprised Ilia won. It was a matter of time. I've been watching him for years and knew he would win if he submitted a few times
I love sassy Ilya nagging Matt
All day....every day
Ilya is an absolute legend for wearing that hoodie there.
Congratulations Ilya!! I can't wait to see the video on your sword.
Ilya showing off his true colors @14:22 is one of many reasons we love him so :P
La verdad es que los dos sois increíbles! Enhorabuena a los dos!!!!
Congratulations Illya!! Both swords are amazing!!
Those kitchen knives from Still Waters Forge are really lovely. Kitchen knives are a somewhat under represented aspect of the knife community. I suspect that part of this is due simply to how annoying they can be to make, since the thickness of the blade going into the quench has to be anywhere from half to a third the thickness that you can get away with on bushcraft and utility knives, which leads to a lot of headaches with them warping, cracking, or not tempering properly. Once someone in a culinary community gets their hands on something from a maker who does quality work in semi-stainless and high carbon steel, if it proves to be a good knife, then they tend to tell all of their compatriots about it and you've got yourself a customer base. Chefs love equipment that makes their lives easier and a good knife is top of that list, just edging out their trusty high carbon steel pan and the sous vide circulator.
