This is your raddest guest since the off-grid monk living in the Italian Alps. I absolutely love this gentleman, great energy, and he inspired me to go on the hunt for a used inversion therapy machine. I hope he lives forever, what an inspiration.

Curious how the inversion therapy machine turns out. My daughter taught me a backbend that I do nightly to crack my back which feels good after a day of mediocre posture, but I'd imagine hanging upside down would be more fun.

Lloyd is a legend! In 1989 I built a house in Freestone on 5 1/2 acres with my ex husband. We paid $159,000.00 for the land. We lived on the property in a 27’ travel trailer. It took us 4 years to build a 2,800 square foot house. Like Lloyd, we learned as we went along. A neighbor that was also an owner/builder was a contractor. He helped us frame for 3 weeks. There were 5 owner builders on our hill. I learned so much - it was one of the best experiences of my 70 years. Great interview with Lloyd. Good to see he’s still kicking around. ❤

We recently bought a run down cabin in the Santa Cruz mountains. The house is a wreck but the utilities are all good including the well and septic. Oh my, oh my....
Lloyd to say how much I appreciate you, your body of work and your approach to lifestyle would be a mere understatement. Over four decades ago, I experienced a whole lotta life, tremendous inspiration, love and joy at Pacfic High. Countless sweet dreams, as a symphony of rainfall and the melodious wood fire delighted my heart and spirit while cozied up in the loft of your geodesic dome on that sacred land in the Oaks...... Any who dwelled there or visited, were gifted a very precious gift of place, an experience and time, along with an essence of beauty that carried on influencing the decades to follow. My time on the land was post Pacific High School days, but the intentions, curiosities, creativity, freedom and joy of design/building and my appreciation for conscious habits and lifestyles most certainly carry on.
Heartfelt gratitude for your influence and the ripple effects that continue on.
    Smiles,
    Tara

This is the type of people that were around in the 1970's. Back then people could survive anything. Now-a-days very few could survive without the govt's help.

Stretching yoga and skating are all great things to fit in the routine.
I’m close to 68 this just adds fuel to the fire to keep going and not back down.
Longboarding skateboarding and growing my own food Anand saving rare seeds are things I relate to in this video. Needed to see this, we need reminders sometimes to stay on track and not fall into the traps of sedentary living.

This is amazing as a DIY construction the knowledge he is giving is incredible the cost now and what he has done in his build is incredible especially the septic build and how city zones and permits defraud people of thousands in buying a home now

Lloyd Kahn is epic! so good to see him here. I have many of his books, including the stretching book. You can really feel his character in his books which I see as about creative living and yes movement is the answer. I was sorry to hear about Lesley, a creative lady.

I have or had his books also, I just used to love alternative architecture and 'wood butcher' homes, but very difficult to build in this way in the UK :-( .

Great tip on if you want to start something, just start doing. That's how I got started too. Wanted chickens but didn't want to spend $1000 at TSC on a small crappy coop. So I bought a drill and built something. Twelve years later I'm building my own house

I live in Marin and absolutely love hearing stories like this!! He's such a rad dude. I would love to longboard with him! As a 30 year old who feels "too old" for skating/long boarding, sometimes this makes me feel great!

Loved learning about Lloyd! Reminds me of my dad who designed the Sikorsky helicopter and was always doing stuff with his hands.. taught me so many things as a kid. Nice video, amazing person! I’m going to ck out his books.

Lloyd. You are an inspiration and guide to the good life. Thankyou
I wrote this today, feeling inspired. Enjoy
    A poem for the traveller.
    my legs are strong
they take me where I want to go
my legs provide foundation to see this world and grow
I thank my legs often for the freedom that they give me
my mind grows stronger with these steady legs beneath me
the direction of my walking does not matter in time
what’s important is I have my legs to rely on
    ocean cliffs
    city pavement
    rocky goat track
    alpine hill
    dusty boots to treadmill
    all is functioning and well
    on the travellers path again
    familiar with the flowstate
the wild rose finds her sunlight
    out beyond the garden gate

I enjoyed this very much. I kind of did the same thing in 1990 in the Gulf Islands. My building process was very similar to Lloyds.I found some cheap land and started to build a house. I had no idea what I was getting into. It all fell into place,( I think) by not thinking too much about the process. It is almost impossible to self build today.

@@billhayward1585 It’s so interesting what he said about building permits (and the cost) and self built septic systems. It is atrocious trying to build on Vancouver Island now - there’s roadblocks non stop for people trying to self build. I would like to see the correlation between stricter building permits & higher permit costs with the number of homes built - in particular modest homes. It’s great you did it & enjoyed it while you could!

Lloyd is such an inspiring character. I've been a fan ever since listening to a conversation between and Chris Ryan about a decade ago. If I have even a fraction of his type of energy as I age, I'll be happy.. Really sad to hear about Leslie, also. Condolences Lloyd.
