The ease with which Jon could shift from classical to blues to fusion to hard rock while never losing or diminishing his unique style and expression is amazing. There was literally nothing he couldn't play and play astoundingly well

I've been all my life (from the age of 12) a Deep purple fan....And Jon Lord (and Ian Gillan) where my heroes....Jon for the sound he produce and later on when youtube came up his kindness and human being...Gillan for his voice and screams.
The best rock blues organ player there ever was I'm glad he went back to a Leslie rotating cabinet he used Marshall stacks back in the day so he can play along with Ritchie
Jon could be quite the quick witted comedian when he wanted to be. He once told a story of his conversation with Mick Jagger about growing older- his response to Jagger was hilarious.
Awesome video... but please, dude... drop the "h" from Jon Lord's name. He's British Protestant, not Irish Catholic! You can easily go back into the video and edit the title and description. No real excuse for getting that wrong, if you know the musician well enough to be posting such great music to your channel. Now let's straighten up the small details, and it will be perfect.
Fact checked on Wikipedia, and son of a gun... you're right. I stand corrected. He was born "John" with an H. I have only ever seen it written as "Jon" w/o the H. I now wonder why the discrepancy? Anyway, sorry about that. I guess either is technically correct... though most Deep Purple discographies will omit the H.
He was named John Douglas Lord when he was born in 1941. He changed the spelling in about 1963-64. I don't know if Jon was just a stage or "show biz" name or if he legally changed it. His gravestone does in fact read "Jon". But for my dollar either Jon or John is correct.
Rhythmically, the original version by Booker T. is FAR better, way more interesting to play and actually rocks more, funnily enough (plus, it's also in F and not in D). However, because of Jon's growling Hammond tone and that amazing middle section, which starts at 3:37, it's still a very enjoyable version.

I'm sorry, but his birth name is John Douglas Lord, so I don't think to write "John Lord" must be wrong.

In a way you're both right, but you're also both wrong :-)
His name is, or rather was, Jonathan Douglas Lord. Hence the natural use of Jon.

What was the slam of Manfred Mann leading to? Did Jon/John Lord not like him?
Manfred was banging Jons wife whilst Jon was with Deep purple
@@simpsimpson5175 Hah! That sure does explain a lot! LOL
What about his slighter quip with Don Wilson? Maybe not a big Beach Boys fan?
