  • After having the car for a few years, it's time to make a couple of tweaks that I have been considering for a long time. I have been running Superior's entire catalogue throughout the rest of the car. Including their Hyperflex Arms, Rear UCA's, Panhards, Steering Arms, Extended Shock Towers, & Coil Retention. Last fortnight we installed their LONG ARMS & now it's time for the hydraulic bump stops! Then it's time to JUMP..

    Another great video Tim, one question mate and if I missed it by bad, did you drop the rig down to full compression in order to get an idea of the height of the hydro stops? I plan on putting a set of these all round on my S4 GU wagon. Like you I don't want the thing jacked into the air but low and flexy.

    • @timmyhasheart
      @timmyhasheart  Год назад +1

      Yeah in a way, the instructions say to discharge the nitrogen out of them and drop it to closed length to get a gauge on full bump but I didn’t want to have to fill them back up. Luckily with these style bumps as opposed to rubber which don’t have an exact compressed length, these do because they’re a solid tube so you can know the closed length without discharging them, all I did was drop it until there was 85mm of shock shaft exposed, because the hydros are 75mm travel and so I want the bumps bottomed when there is 10mm shock left? I hope that makes sense, that gets them pretty dialled and then during my first trip with them I had cable ties on all 4 shocks and slowly wound them up until every cable tie was 10mm from the bottom. Even with jumping it and hitting stuff hard.
      Hope that makes sense and hope it helps mate 👍🏻

    Do you find them much harsher since you say you are currently bouncing off the bumps with your setup?
    I am constantly on mine too, mainly due to 150lb/in front coils and 'comfort valved' ironman shocks. I put dobinson hydros in mine knowing I would be hitting the bumps more often but really wish I didn't. They are bloody noisy and really feel them through the floor of the car.

    • @timmyhasheart
      @timmyhasheart  Год назад

      Ahhh to start with I had them set to low, and so I felt them tapping the diff frequently however I wouldn’t say it’s harsh I just felt the Teflon tapping the diff, but I’ve got them a lot more dialled now and I’m not on them unless I need to be..
      Put some cable ties on your shock shafts and hit some stuff real hard to see how much shock travel you have left, I kept adjusting mine until the cable tie stopped 10mm from the end of the shock. If you reach out on Insta I can help you dial them in a bit.
      But I mean, if you really can’t stand them go back to rubber? They’re not for everyone for sure

    • @bennyjahmin3953
      @bennyjahmin3953 Год назад

      @@timmyhasheart
      Sorry I don't have insta or bookface.
      Pretty sure I've got them setup as high as possible before the shock bottoms out. At full bump they are pretty much at factory bump height.
      Other than changing shocks and or coils the only thing I could possibly do is pull the bump apart and machine a spacer so they have less travel.
      Also the dobinsons bumps have a rubber as well as the nylon ends. And they are still pretty clunky.
      Also they are fully welded in so going back to rubber bumps will need to machine something to thread into the sleeves that I can bolt a bump stop to.
      How much gap do you have from striker pad to bottom of bump at ride height? I have a little over 100mm

    • @timmyhasheart
      @timmyhasheart  Год назад

      Yeah probably about 100-125 at ride height with 12” travel shocks, and yeah wouldn’t be hard to get an aluminium boss turned up in the lathe to receive a factory rubber bump in the bottom, but I mean yeah I dunno I rate em so far, only done a few jumps and seems to handle well.
      And yeah could pull them apart and add a spacer for sure.

    • @bennyjahmin3953
      @bennyjahmin3953 Год назад

      @@timmyhasheart
      Any idea what what spring rate and free height your coils are? And how much did you raise the shock towers?
      Mine are 150lb/in with a free height of 515mm. Shocks are only 10" travel, (ironmans 6") and raised towers 25mm. The coils stay seated at full droop.
      I also made a swaybar from a torsion bar (I think it was a Ford courier) for about $100. Works a treat and super easy to disconnect for offroad.
      Also running the superflex rear swaybar, but clamped some brackets at the factory location along the swaybar arm so it is as stiff as a whiteline 24mm bar or just move the links to the end and get full flex out of it.
      Not poo, pooing your content but I'm sure I'm not the only one hungry for some 'out of the box' ideas rather than throwing the superior catalogue at their patrols.

    • @timmyhasheart
      @timmyhasheart  Год назад +1

      Na not at all no offence taken dude I get what you’re saying, but I’ve bought superior in the past because it’s always been a dream of mine to have full superior, I dunno why there is this innate need to go custom when someone smarter than us has done it better, not to mention my suspension wouldn’t be engineered if it was anything but superior, my engineer went tick tick tick because all of the approvals were there.. I work hard, earn money, spend it where I see fit.
      I dunno the coil rates off the top of my head sorry dude all I know is it’s sitting at about 70mm. Shocks are 7” all round which equates to 12” travel front and 13” travel rear. Front shock towers are well and truly into the engine bay I could only just just fit them in before, since the hydro plate on top I had to cut more out though.
      There is lots of people out there doing fully custom suspension, and so if this sorta stuff isn’t for you that’s all g I can tell you a couple channels that do great custom stuff but in Tasmania I can only legally put in gear that’s been through the VSB14 testing, and even that aside, I rate the superior stuff and have dreamed of having superior gear under a solid axle car even back when I had a Navara, and the factory Nissan geometry works just fine to the degree I can get to both ends of a 13” travel shock so I haven’t had a need to go custom.
