    You are all so lucky, must be heaven to live in a Country with a proper Summer. Unfortunately i live in hell called "Northern Ireland" all we get here is Rain & Storm 300+ days a year. If you try to plant something in your Garden , it will be destroyed within a week by another storm. Everything has to be done indoors here . That's why my Home is full of Plants and Terrariums . I recently started to grow Fly Traps

    Try “landscaping cloth” or weed barrier sold to prevent weeds getting into a landscaped area! It allows the water through and retains all the potting soil!! Way more efficient than using sphagnum moss, just saying 👍🏼

    Why don't use some fiber glass fly screen at the bottom? I use just peat to get mine started. I boil the peat and I use soft drink bottles cut in two to make terrariums. I drill holes at the bottom where the bottom of the bottles hit the ground, so I can sit them in shallow dishes. The tops of the bottle can be removed more and more after time too, to acclimate them to the house humidity, which is above 70 percent because of my fish tanks. Once they acclimated fully then I can plant them up to their permanent homes.

    Thank you for your video, I’ve tried following all your videos from cold stratification to growth. Does it matter if I place my seedlings under one of those pink/purple t8 lights the whole time or should I switch it to a white full spectrum light after germinating? Thank you.

    • @TheFlytrapGarden
      @TheFlytrapGarden  3 года назад +1

      I think those lights are a personal preference. Best to make sure they’re give off enough lumens and correct wavelengths. I’m not very good with lights i never use them

      @@TheFlytrapGarden would it be too much to ask for assistance with growing sundews? I’ve seen all your videos and just can’t seem to understand why my sundews aren’t creating dew when I have them in the same amount of water that you showed us and with a humidifier and air circulation inside my terrarium.
      I have the same exact substrate of peat moss, perlite and sand with long fiber sphagnum moss and only use clean drinking filtered water.

    Do you think adding Springtails to a seeded (not yet germinating) Capensis terrarium would be alright? They'd have approx 4' of peat/perlite before the drainage layer. Would they possibly eat or otherwise compromise the seeds at the surface? I know people have positive (or at least, not negative) results with Springtails in terrariums housing both Venus and Sundews... But I'm a little concerned about how small the Capensis seeds are. BUT....on the other hand, the Springtails really only want "decaying" stuff and mold, so the seeds might be safe as long as I don't overwater/mold them ( which would be bad anyway) I'm thinking? Perhaps it would be a good idea to supplement the Springtails diet with some Nutrional Yeast in areas not full of seeds, to keep them happy and reduce any chances that the seeds would be consumed?? Also, don't feel bad for not being able to spot the seeds in that pile of sand, lol. I got an order of pure seeds this week and it looks like a bag of dust haha!

    • @TheFlytrapGarden
      @TheFlytrapGarden  4 года назад

      You are spot on! The seeds are alive, they will not get damaged by springtails. However I would wait it out a bit until the seedling have grown a little just to be on the safe side, but not like this will actually make much of a difference. And yes! Drosera seeds are literally like dust 😂

    If you spray the soil after having sown the seeds, don't you risk blowing away the seeds, especially when they are very tiny?

    • @TheFlytrapGarden
      @TheFlytrapGarden  4 года назад +1

      If your soil is moist enough, the seeds should stick to the soil and the spray on top must also be fairly gentle too :)
