The best review video of a HS720E by far even with all the videos that are out with just the HS720. I have the HS720 and bought it when it first came out. I really like the fact how you showed you doing the settings. I only seen one other person show the settings and using them "but not as well as you" after watching about 300 + drone videos. HolyStone told me last night the max range was 200M. They actually told me a couple of wrong things that went to their disadvantage that discouraged me from buying it until you proved them wrong. It might have just been the one person who happen to answer. Also I did watch a distance test video you made for this drone. They should be paying you because I was holding off but now I'm going to buy it right now!
Thankyou Fred, much appreciated. I try my best with limited time available to do a video I would want to watch myself. The app is ruining the drone but they will have to address it even if in the newest update if they put limit back on again. if people complain they will have no choice. They advertise the drone as 900m max range with transmitter and 500m max range with video feed.

Hi Micheal, firstly glad you found it. Was you using the official app? And is it an android app. It seems that android apps are causing a problem with some users. You can try the M RC PRO app which seems to work better. The new updated official app does have a find my drone feature but didn't work for me.
Is the drone ok? This is why I'm afraid to use the follow me mode and orbit mode! I had my 2nd flight this weekend as I just got the 720E and I'm being extra cautious as I had the HS175 before which I lost.
@@2CatMedia Do you think that the abnormal behavior of the drone is caused by the Ophelia Pro ? My 720E also flew into the wall on its own with the M RC PRO . You can fly visually without an app or a smartphone at all.
Hmmm. I have the HS720 and I had no idea that there was a new app. I was just trying to get a map to show up in the old Ophelia app. All I get is a dot indicating the drone on a totally blank map, so I have never tried any of the auto modes. Anyone that used both have any advice? I may add it on an older device just to try it, I've learned my lesson updating perfectly functioning software.
Hello Steve, great that you did the 3 test flights. I also did some test flights today. In beginner status it flew 15 meters away and then didn't react anymore, I could only steer the drone up and down, nothing more was possible. Fortunately, I was able to land without any problems. On the 2nd try everything worked as it should. Everything was fine in manual mode. The display of altitude and distance was also almost digital, i.e. at the same time as the transmitter and phone display. Why does your phone show altitude and distance the same? By the way on December 30th there was an update going to install it. greetings from Germany my friend
Yes Felix i just updated and made a quick video to let people know apparently it is better in flight and hopefully they fix that height and distance glitch
You couldn’t rotate the drone either? we could only rotate only occasionally and usually cut out and we were only left up going up and down. Wasn’t sure what was going on.
@@spazchicken1 Hello, turning on the spot was possibility and also went up and down. On the second try everything worked as usual. I have now installed the new update. But today I couldn't test it, we had rainy weather. I'm from Germany
You said -------->In beginner status it flew 15 meters away and then didn't react anymore, I could only steer the drone up and down, nothing more was possible. Same thing happen with my HS720 so now that it happen to all three of us I now know it's normal.
Hello Steve, thanks for the video. Do you know if are there some extenders or amplifiers of signal for remote controller antennas Holy Stone 720E, like DJI has? If there are, do you have some recomendation? Thanks
@@2CatMedia Thks Steve, all Yagui antennas offer for DJI are 5,8 Ghz not 5 G. There are not in the Market normal amplifiers for 5 G Controllers. Do you know how can I find them? Thanks a lot.
No I ment 5.8ghz but when searching they sometimes just get referred to as 5 ghz even though it 5.8 ghz. But 5.8 you can plug into a power bank and then connect your phone to that then that to the drone should be better stability.
Thank you for this video from the USA! The manual does NOT address this and there is a lot of confusion out there saying whether it matters when you switch from beginners mode to out of beginners mode during the setup and flight and that if you do it our of order it won't take.
Hi Steve, I believe you are familiar with the Yagi antenna or parabolic signal enhancers? This is the most common enhancer for DJI controllers, would you be able to test this for our HS720E controller? Thanks ya
Thank you for your excellent videos which as a beginner I find very helpful. I've just progressed from my sub 250g beginner drone to a Holy Stone 720E which is why I came across this video of yours on a search. I've been advised not to use Ophelia Go with my 720E but to use M RC PRO instead because it's more stable and less 'laggy'. M RC PRO is on the Play Store for Android and iOS and I've downloaded it but I'm reluctant as a beginner not to use the recommended Ophelia GO with the 720E. So I wonder if you have any experience of the M RC PRO App, or maybe even compared the two of them. Thanks.
Glad you had issues on beginners mod as well. I thought it was my drone. What is also strange is I did not turn on beginners mode so must of come on automatically.
Hi Steve, I’ve had my new HS720 for a week now and finding that when I take off and hover, after a few minutes the drone starts to circle, and as I try to correct it’s flight it becomes uncontrollable and then crashes. Do you have any suggestions why this is occurring please? Kind regards Ian
Same thing is happening to me, I’m not sure if my settings are off, I’ve looked at a lot of videos and tried to do the proper set up, but there has to be something that I’m overlooking
I did the test today on max height without setting and beginner mode off and it maxed at 117 meters. So it appears with beginner off and the setting not set it goes to max (max would be 120) but no further. Oh well. I guess 120 meters up is high enough but I was hoping for higher. I haven't tested max distance in the same way yet but I imagine it's the same.
well i not sure about where you live but 120m is max in Uk unless you have permission. Plus i dont think i would want to take that drone much higher anyway lol
I my first 2 flights this weekend here in NY state and I also didn't get past around 120 meters. I was hoping to get close to 400 feet. Do you have to dial in your settings before you take off OR can you make changes while the drone is in flight? NOTE: I am also from Jersey.
Hi, I have not seen this discussed anywhere while researching the 720E drone but if you hold the Unlock button while powering on the Controller (with the drone turned off) then long press and release the Photo/Video button, what appears to be a channel menu appears where the distance and height display is normally located. There are 3 menu "headers" labeled "FCC", "Fch" & "ALL". Short pressing the Photo/Video button will step through the available choices for each "header". Do you have any idea what this is for? Perhaps something for a new test?
Great job! I truly enjoy your videos, they are always very informative! I downloaded the updated app last night but haven't done a flight yet. I'll let you know what my experience is when I do my next flight.
Mike, there is yet another new update at least for android that came out a day ago, I uploading a video to inform, so check your app version as i think the new app version has fixed some issues
@@2CatMedia so, I am running iOS so when everyone was talking about an app update, I never saw anything. Before last night, my last update to the app was over 3 weeks ago. I just got back from a flight and it seemed pretty smooth. Of course, I screwed up and did not properly format my SD card so the video on the drone is lost...hoping to recover something though. UPDATE: Looks like my card is fine and the video is there. My iMac didn't like it I guess. My windows laptop read it just fine though.
Good day. Do you find when you're turning the drone(this is in mode 2,i didn't try mode 1 and see) even if you're trying to do it smoothly the video comes out jerky?
I have the HS720, and in wifi mode on the iPhone 8 (not sure if the phone makes a difference) only allows me to travel a distance of 20-30 meters and it just stops moving. How can I make that further ? Am I doing something wrong? Or is the drone faulty do you think? In non wifi mode it travels very far. 800 meters or so. Any ideas ?
Hi Phillip, in the app go to settings (the cog in top right corner) double check if it is in beginners mode. If it is slide it off and adjust sliders if required to distances you want.
Useful information. Thanks. Question. The video we are seeing from the drone. That's taken from recording to the SD card on the drone right? Not video recorded on the phone right? I bought a microSD card for another drone which I returned but it looks like this drone takes a different card? Do you know what kind of SD card I need to get for it? Finally, on the lag. I think the thing to do in that case is restart the drone and maybe restart the phone too. I think it's just a poor wifi connection to the drone. Keep the videos coming mate. Very helpful. 151 fans now :)
Hi John, The restarting will not work as it app based. Any Micro SD card would fit, but you need a class 10 card so it will support 4k recording. Ok, so the recording you see initially on first flight is my screen recording hence reason you can see stats and app. The 2nd and 3rd flights I still used the screen recording but placed the HD footage inside it so it was better quality. so if you look closely you will see the 2nd and 3rd flights I think it was are pretty clear in the centre and some of the outer edges are less clear as they from the screen recording which is about 720p I think
I tried flying my drone for the first time and all I did was crush haha… it seemed to not want to respond, I did the calibration with the drone, do I have to do a calibration with the app as well..?
Hi, that is the height it will return at, if RTH is activated. If the drone is below 50m then if activated it will rise to 50m and then fly back home. If however, the drone is already higher than 50m it will stay at the higher height and not descend. If using the drone under a tree canopy etc be careful that RTH does not activate and shoot up into the trees etc. In that case you would set RTH height as a lower value
@@2CatMedia Okay but I don't know why you would set the RTH at a certain height? So it will only RTH when it hits that height? Why would you want it to go up higher before it returns home? I don't quite understand what the setting is for? Does it mean when it reaches 50m it will just automatically return home?
No, RTH activates when either you press it yourself or the battery or signal is low, regardless of whatever height you are at, at the time. The reason I usually set it at 50m or higher is because when the drone automatically returns home and it rises to that height before returning. It should usually be high enough to go over any trees or buildings it may or could encounter on the way back. Usually before flying I will send a drone in the air above me to survey my surroundings and to see what height is a comfortable height to return. The RTH height is just the height the drone goes up to as a safety net when return to home is activated. If you set it to 20m and whilst on the way back while in RTH mode there was a building that was 25m tall then you will hit it. As I said before, the drone only goes to that height you set when RTH is activated, when you are below the set height when it activates. It will stop and go up to that height as a safety feature before returning home in a straight line. If you are already above the RTH height you have set then it will usually keep the height it is at. Hope that makes some sense. So you have your flight height to can go up and down on whilst flying your drone and then the safety net feature RTH height. That's why I said to set it low or turn it off if you are flying your drone underneath a roof or a tree because otherwise if RTH is activated then it will stop them go up to the height you preset and possibly hit the tree.
So just to clarify, RTH does not mean that when you hit the height you have set whilst flying, that it comes home. It is a safety feature to go up to a safe height before returning due to either you activating it yourself or it goes out of the transmitter range or if the battery is low. It is better to set it higher than you need so you have room for error.
Hi Reginald, welcome. Tripod mode will be just speed 1 which you can get by pressing and holding the top right button on the transmitter. You shoukd hear a beep and on the display on the transmitter it should say either speed high or speed 2 then change to speed 1
Do you see the message on bottom that says RTH altitude can't be higher than flying altitude? My unit does exactly that. It doesn't let me increase my RTH alt if I leave flying height and distance at minimums. 🤔🤔 Weird, how is it yours let's you do that?
because if your flying altitude is set lower than your RTH then you could potentially crash it in the evet say you didn't want the altitude to go any higher than 15 metres in general whether that be due to obstructions above or you are a beginner and need the confidence then you don't want the drone RTH and just shooting up to say 50 M. So its there as a safety feature. Plus the reason I was able to put the RTH above the minimum value of 15 metres for altitude was because as video is trying to state that once out of beginners mode the values of default are not the minimum but unlimited until of course you adjust say the altitude to 30 m then if you did so then it would not allow the RTH to go above 30 also. So leave the distance and altitude as they are at the default settings and they are unlimited.
@@2CatMedia Yes, I completely understand. What I am trying to say is that mine won't let me do what you did. I can take it off beginner and leave all as default but then it will not physically allow me to raise my RTH altitude like it allowed you. Very weird that it allowed you to do that. I had to go back and see if you altered anything else...but no nothing. 🤔
@@2CatMedia I am having the same issue as @Eric Bravo. I have a Samsung Note 8 and have the same exact problem. I watched this video a few days ago and finally got the chance to try to use it today. When I turn off the Beginners Mode switch in the Ophelia GO app I can't adjust the RTH Altitude slider unless I first manually adjust the 'max flight altitude' slider. You had a very special app update I think! :) I'm in USA and use the Imperial Units. My max distance today was around 615 feet or so. We had a sunny day in Michigan and 37F temp with 7-8mph wind. I'm very disappointed with the distance test. My phone was losing WiFi signal which was fine I suppose, but the drone didn't seem to be making any progress using the transmitter once it reached that distance. Plus, I could not rotate the drone either at that point. I had to use the RTH button on the transmitter to regain signal. I purchased this drone Nov. 26 2020 just before the new app updates ruined everything. I downloaded the M RC PRO app tonight, so I'm really hoping that will allow me to fly 1000 meters or more with the transmitter once I can get out again. I appreciate your great videos and information and subscribed about 2 weeks ago! I'm looking forward to a follow-up video from you about the M RC PRO app if you get a chance to try it for yourself. I see others are asking you for it also, haha. By chance, do you know if this 720E drone is compatible with any true FPV goggles? If not, is there a worthwhile FPV/VR Headset that would be recommended? I communicated with Holy Stone, but they unfortunately had a difficult time giving a clear answer. Thanks once again Steve; you are a very relatable and informative person. I appreciate the effort and time you take to make these videos for us all!

I don't mean a 5g phone. 5g is the Internet speed. I ment 5.8 ghz which is the WiFi connection just like the WiFi at home which is normally 2.4 or 5.8 ghz.
Thanks for all the knowledge! Question...my drone will only turn within 15 ft of me....out side of that...I can move the drone up and down and back and forward. I just can turn it around. But when I get within 15 ft I can turn it. Help please.
are you in beginner mode? as beginner mode restricts you to 15 metres and what ever that is in feet. I found the same that you could only spin around when it close to you but fursther towards the barrier of the 15 metres it was more limited. Double check in setting to see if beginners mode is on
Before I buy the hs720e, I've noticed recently some complaints with issues regarding android phones and the latest app which could be a deal breaker for me. Can anyone shed some light on this? Also the ophelia app has some pretty negative reviews lately?
John the latest! update a couple of weeks ago was good in theory but very laggy, but i have heard and saw that it has since again been updated today i think or yesterday and from what i hear it seems fine.
@@2CatMedia ideal steve, I was literally about to buy the hs720e earlier today when I saw some of the comments re android phones and the app not being great, u reckon its still worth a try? Seems a cracking drone for the price
Well after being impressed by the drones flight stability, but very questionable video quality, the app has started crashing on me too. Appreciate this is a sub £300 drone, but that's still a lot of money either way. If the developer can seemingly release an app that stops us using it on a modern phone (oneplus Nord) I don't think this ecosystem is for me and I'd rather return and consider DJI or not have one at all.
We tried to fly for the second time and husband was having a tough time rotating the drone and was moving around on its own. He then tried the different points he added on the map but didn’t realize one he added was in trees and ran into them getting it stuck. He disabled the motor and it dropped and broke 2 arms... waiting on parts and hoping that’s all that’s wrong :/ Have a Happy New year! 🎊
Oh yea tell him don’t do that unless over soft grass ground it can break it falls from too high height. You can switch the gps on then off while it’s still in the air even fix the WiFi connection to the from if you have to. Tell him don’t worry all will be fine soon
So the height and distance display are always showing the same value on both. That's not good. I am guessing it's only showing distance and you have no idea what the height is.
It is fixed now which is good. Height on the transmitter was accurate but not the app at the time. Come join my new Facebook group I created called "Budget & Fun Drone Community" @ facebook.com/groups/2catmedia and say hi and share your journey.
you will see in flights 2 and 3 i think that I overlayed the 4k footage in the window so you can still see the stats such as height and distance etc but have a better view in 4k. unfortunately my 4k upload failed so i uploaded in 1080p
@@2CatMedia How do you find the focus? I got mine for Christmas and to be honest have been utterly disappointed with the video quality. I tested yesterday for the 1st time in similar conditions here in Toronto at 1080 @ 60fps as I do not have a 4K TV and the image was just not sharp. When I compared to some footage I took in the summer on my S9 Plus (1080P @ 60fps) the quality of my phone was a million times better. To be honest I didn't expect the drone's camera to be as good as that on my Samsung but it is no where near what I was expecting. I had higher hopes for this drone
@@2CatMedia Definitely from the micro SD card. I know it is only 1080P but like I said it should be better. It is just not sharp. I think you will see night and day difference with the Mavic Mini 2

Yes it was an issue. Not what I expected from beginners mode. Feels like there problems, maybe thus new update for Androidst least will help
Thanks
I don't have them specifically but if you can get a 5ghz WiFi extender/amplifier then the fpv should be more stable and maybe go little further.
Thankyou Evan to you and the USA for your support. Glad it helps
@@2CatMedia ruclips.net/video/tlZMJ2hjmbI/видео.html This was my first flight this weekend with the 720E
Hi Steve, I believe you are familiar with the Yagi antenna or parabolic signal enhancers? This is the most common enhancer for DJI controllers, would you be able to test this for our HS720E controller? Thanks ya
Hi engr, thankyou for commenting, yes I am familiar and hopefully will purchase some soon and test it.
Thanks.
Hi Nosk, if you look on my channel I did a video or 2 on mrc pro
Ah, OK, I missed that when I searched for m rc pro, but found it now. Thanks, gives me confidence to try it when the weather decides to cooperate!
Like your videos. You mention a 3rd party fast charger for the HS 720E. Who are they and can I buy it in the US?
Hi there, here is link to UK amazon, should also be available in US.

Glad you had issues on beginners mod as well. I thought it was my drone.
What is also strange is I did not turn on beginners mode so must of come on automatically.
It does unfortunately, even on the latest update it comes on also as default and also does not save your settings
I’m having some trouble being able to rotate the HS720 to the left and right. Any thoughts?
Is it in beginners mode by any chance?
Good question. I’ll double check that the next time I have it up, which could be today if it’s not too windy. Thanks
Always double Check that as some updates can reset it etc
@@2CatMedia Many thanks. I’ll check in with you later to let you know this worked. User error is generally the problem with just about everything!
Hi Steve,
I’ve had my new HS720 for a week now and finding that when I take off and hover, after a few minutes the drone starts to circle, and as I try to correct it’s flight it becomes uncontrollable and then crashes. Do you have any suggestions why this is occurring please?
Kind regards
Ian
Hi there, i would suggest you make sure you fully calibrate it.
True but I'm an astronaut at heart ;)
Love it
I my first 2 flights this weekend here in NY state and I also didn't get past around 120 meters. I was hoping to get close to 400 feet. Do you have to dial in your settings before you take off OR can you make changes while the drone is in flight? NOTE: I am also from Jersey.
Evan I think you can change them mid flight but just set the max distance to max anyway if you confident.
I was wondering why your distance and height gage on the the screen are the same. When you go up it doesn't change
Hi lon, yes that was an issue with a certain update but seems its fixed now.
Do you have a video on how to use the follow mode?
Hi,
I have not seen this discussed anywhere while researching the 720E drone but if you hold the Unlock button while powering on the Controller (with the drone turned off) then long press and release the Photo/Video button, what appears to be a channel menu appears where the distance and height display is normally located. There are 3 menu "headers" labeled "FCC", "Fch" & "ALL". Short pressing the Photo/Video button will step through the available choices for each "header". Do you have any idea what this is for? Perhaps something for a new test?
Fantastic, I'll look into that.
@@2CatMedia And what was that? what are the service settings?
Fantastic Mike
Hi Steve, the telemetry height value seems to be wrong (it’s the same as the distance).
I know i think it was the new update. I just went off the transmitter readings instead
Thankyou Tony but I belive it was fixed an update or two ago.
Sounds just like me lol 😂
Good day.
Do you find when you're turning the drone(this is in mode 2,i didn't try mode 1 and see) even if you're trying to do it smoothly the video comes out jerky?
It can do, it not a smooth turn but you are only paying around 250 fitbit as a combo pack. Mode 1 will be smooth as its the slower mode
@@2CatMedia yea I know it's the best you could probably get for a budget drone...i will try it in mode 1 and see if there's a noticeable difference.
@@2CatMedia worked a treat! Not in the manual anywhere. Well, I couldn’t see it. Cheers . Massive help
It was added in the app update a couple if updates ago.
thanks
Useful information. Thanks. Question. The video we are seeing from the drone. That's taken from recording to the SD card on the drone right? Not video recorded on the phone right? I bought a microSD card for another drone which I returned but it looks like this drone takes a different card? Do you know what kind of SD card I need to get for it? Finally, on the lag. I think the thing to do in that case is restart the drone and maybe restart the phone too. I think it's just a poor wifi connection to the drone. Keep the videos coming mate. Very helpful. 151 fans now :)
Do you think the lag would be shown in the recording of those flights or is it just during the live feed?
Hi John, The restarting will not work as it app based. Any Micro SD card would fit, but you need a class 10 card so it will support 4k recording. Ok, so the recording you see initially on first flight is my screen recording hence reason you can see stats and app. The 2nd and 3rd flights I still used the screen recording but placed the HD footage inside it so it was better quality. so if you look closely you will see the 2nd and 3rd flights I think it was are pretty clear in the centre and some of the outer edges are less clear as they from the screen recording which is about 720p I think
I ran mine today in about 2 degrees and was fine. I'm using an Iphone and the app seems to be working fine. Are you using Android or Apple IOS?
I using android Peter, but there a new app update yet again so hopefully will fix a few issues
@@2CatMedia We got the latest IOS update yesterday, hence trying it out. Perhaps it's an Android issue then rather than the drone/controller
You could be right Peter
I tried flying my drone for the first time and all I did was crush haha… it seemed to not want to respond, I did the calibration with the drone, do I have to do a calibration with the app as well..?
No, you can do both via the transmitter controller. But make sure you do both
You should put the ophelia go app version you are using in your description.
I thought I did, I'll have a look and add it.
My new friend
ahh thankyou
Steve, what is the version number of the new app?
1.01.66(72)
Can I ask why do you set the drone at 50m return to home? What does that mean?
@@2CatMedia oh okay I understand now thanks. So when it is activated it goes to 50m to return home then comes down. I get it.
Ophelia still hasn’t fixed the problem video viewing in the app ? Only the photos work
Thankyou for letting me know. Hopefully you will be using the alternative app for now, if you not watched the video then take a look.

2cat I got my hs720e no idea how long will the battery charge can you tell me how many hours to charge it?
If you use the included charger it charges them one at a time at a rate of 1 battery every 5 - 7 hours
Thank you :)
Your welcome
@@2CatMedia Yesterday I had my 2nd flight and the battery was only half used. I put it back in the charger and it still took over 5 hours to charge?
How can I put the 720E in Tripod mode?
Weird
I appreciate the effort and time you take to make these videos for us all!

are you in beginner mode? as beginner mode restricts you to 15 metres and what ever that is in feet. I found the same that you could only spin around when it close to you but fursther towards the barrier of the 15 metres it was more limited. Double check in setting to see if beginners mode is on

I'll try my best
He disabled the motor and it dropped and broke 2 arms... waiting on parts and hoping that’s all that’s wrong :/
Have a Happy New year! 🎊
Oh dear colleen I would contact holy stone and explain the drone was not controllable. Yes the tap to fly you need to avoid trees lol

Can the holystone be set up to a lenovo tablet please
Yes as long as you can download the apps
I can download the app on the tablet ,, but i cant get it to go on wifi
The drone connects via 5.8ghz WiFi so need to see if your tablet has that. If it dies it should connect.
why is the video so laggy?
I believe it was due to an update on the Ophelia go app at the time.
Height has wrong value equaling to distance

Incredibly jerky/lagging at the beginning of take off
It was Clifford ..... It was
Awful video lag.. fortunately mine doesn’t lag like that
Thankfully
Very choppy video quality. I want a better drone already. Lol
That's screen recording from the phone not from the video from the sd card in 4k.
you will see in flights 2 and 3 i think that I overlayed the 4k footage in the window so you can still see the stats such as height and distance etc but have a better view in 4k. unfortunately my 4k upload failed so i uploaded in 1080p
Was it the footage straight from phone you looked at which is 720p or the footage from sd card which is where 1080p etc is stored. It records twice.
@@2CatMedia Definitely from the micro SD card. I know it is only 1080P but like I said it should be better. It is just not sharp. I think you will see night and day difference with the Mavic Mini 2
