hurray! we're back in the studio! the chair returns! (this week's feature was made to a tight deadline so there's just a lil' sample of studio-shot goodness - but look out for a fuller return to the studio over the coming days) much love, OX
Boop
Is this why the Mario Golf-stream that was scheduled for today at 4 PM hasn't happened?
@@gustavselin1197 it got postponed to tuesday because it’s too hot 🥵
Praise for the studio being back.
Congrats!
Hot damn people THE CHAIR is back!!
The underappreciated cast member.
I hate to say it, but it felt weird to see them in the studio after all this time.
Welcome back, chair! We missed you!
So beautiful.
When we see the couch again we shall rejoice
I never thought I'll be glad to see something resembling Mike's "gaming chair", but here we are! Grats on getting back in the studio guys!
Local multiplayer needs a comeback! So many couples would love to play a game together, whether one screen, split screen, or switching characters between runs, but so few games allow this to be an option.
This is true
“A way out”
Is a fun split screen only game, Kinda like “it takes two” but more Serious, obviously!
Monster Prom
Fun, funny, competitive
There are alot of good local multiplayers
There are several nintendo games with local multi-player. Also I'm late.
I like the genre of games where you buy the game and it includes everything. All the skins. All the difficulty levels. All the optional areas. An expansion pack type DLC a few months down the road is fine.
What, you one of those people who like complete games!? Well EA says... nevermind
This 1000%
That genre is sadly dead and buried.
And remember when being online and connected to the servers wasn't needed to play single player? Now, once a game's servers shut down, the game will be useless, and you'll never be able to play it again, it would seem, because games won't even start if you're not connected to the internet. Buying a game now is just renting it until the makers of the game take their ball and go home with it. I want my non-online single player experiences back!
Ok boomer. Lol jk
I also miss buying the whole game when you initially buy it.
The studio! The chair! The white void! CHEWY WE’RE HOME !
The chair! The studio! The whole crew is back! Hooray! 🥳🥳🥳
Being completely aware that they weren't that popular, I loved the old learning company games, like Carmen sandiego and cluefinders. It's kind of sad how dumbed down kids games have gotten when they used to be so good.
Haha, I actually just played the entirety of Carmen Sandiego on Internet Archive. That site and Retro Reload are great for the old school windows 3.1 era. Oregon Trail and all that are usually there too.
Carmen Sandiego is AMAZING
it is so hard to find a way to play the great version they did of where in time is carmen sandiago these days, they have the classic one but i cannot find the one with the set story and levels
My guy, you have answered a question that I have been asking myself for years. The Cluefinder games have been hazy memories for so long that I was starting to wonder if they were just my own imagination. I could never remember what they were called, or really anything other than a vague image of a single screen. I know it's been a year since your comment, but you've given my fevered searches some much-nedded closure.
1 year ago but we had the same thoughts after seeing this video 😁
I have to disagree with Andy saying the keyboard was unnecessary, it allowed me, a physically impaired gamer, to play a rhythm action game for the first time since Guitar Hero: Aerosmith when they had controller support 😔
Same! I have nothing against accesories and such for those who can use them of course, but when everything started being all about Wii Remote, guitars and the likes, I missed a complete generation (or two) of gaming consoles until Switch started having a bunch of old style Tunr Based and Tactical RPGs again...
While I respect your struggle, that means you only had 400 rhythm action games to choose from?
@DevilboyScooby @Lunamaria Thank you for sharing. Especially in light of the Troll World we live in. I had not even once considered your point. You demonstrate the lack of inclusivity in gaming. More than ever! They gotta have it their way.
He meant unnecessary for the average gamer obviously.
I played DDR with a controller for years after getting injured in the military myself, I was thankful for that option!~
Romance options in a fishing sim game is *not* what is meant by "sleeping with the fishes"
And let’s not give game developers any ideas.
"I thought you said Troy McClure was dead!"
"No, what I said was that he 'sleeps with the fishes'."
Well now I have to make one called that...
@@dweebicusmaximus to late they have the idea.
Ow my brain
"bunny hopping around like the floor was myxomatosis" is a fantastically obscure joke, and I love it
A graphics buffed Twisted Metal: Black would be worth $60 easy
•
would personally prefer a vigilante 8 type vehicular upgrade system though.
Twisted metal man it was just something else
Until that arrives, maybe look to get "Gas Guzzlers Extreme" for cheap in a Steam sale.
that was actually one of the first games I played that I saw run at 60fps. even for a PS2 the gameplay was so smooth.
A CHAIR!!!!!
Holy cow, I missed the chair so much.
Wait!!, they're back in the studio?!?, YESSSSSS THE PURPLE COUCH WILL RETURN!!!
Congrats on the heart!
@@IamaPERSON thx!

Car combat, yes! The amount of hours I’ve spent in Vigilante 8… god I loved that game
So glad someone else mentioned that gem
Just posted about V8! Loved it!
For me the car combat game was streets of Sim city
@@RichardDuryea lol I remember that! The helicopter one too!
Lightning!
Playing Unreal Tournament was a BLAST when it came out. Played so much with a friend on the PS2. Turning it into a drinking game when you get killed was part of the fun too.
Godlike
It was Quake for me, the computer support department were I worked had convinced the bosses it was a good way to stress test our company intranet, some nights there'd be scores of us staying late after work to play the arena matches, with groups from other site locations hooked in as well 😁 good times.
@@pelinoregeryon6593 That. Sounds. Amazing…
I’m not one for arena shooters myself, but an after work games night sounds incredible.
I didn't realize how much I missed you all yelling at each other from off-camera until now
I did realize that, and it's so so good to have this little funny bit back!!
It finally feels "normal" again.
How come they stopped?

THE STUDIO. THE STUDIO IS BACK. THE CHAIR IS BACK. Oh how I've missed them
To quote Corazon: "Chair!"
The Return of the King…
Can't say how happy I am that they didn't decide to not go back to the studio.
Found an arcade emulator and a longgone childhood memory I had from the Genesis: Pigskin AD. Basically football with medieval traps and hilarious deaths.
Pigskin Footbrawl- "Troll!Troll!Troll!"
Such a great gem very few have heard of.
Flight simulators, especially sci-fi style. I miss X-wing, Wing Commander and, best of all Colony wars. As well as mercenary mech games. Mech warrior, Armor core.
Did someone miss the release of Star Wars Squadrons?
And Mechwarrior 5 :)
I couldn't get my head around 3-d movement and got shot to shit over and over until, like, Battlefront 2
Colony Wars was fantastic!!
COLONY WARS! 🥰 OH THE MEMORIES!
That Rock Band intro makes me want a racing game played entirely on rhythm action peripherals.
"Press Play On Tape" are an *actual* band that use controllers to play their (simulated) instruments. Same same?..
Yes- fury road tie-in ftw! Basically add Carmageddon to Rock Band, it would be awesome 😎
Rhythm action racing sounds rad
Some one did it with dark souls
I notice a theme here, where more creative and fun versions of things have been traded for realism and accuracy.
Exactly.
That's because all you people care about is realism and graphics
@@airidhsj302A , why the aggression, man? I believe you've mistakenly replied to the main comment and probably me when I believe we're the ones who aren't about realism and graphics. Heck, I'd rather have Resident Evil 4 graphics or even Quake graphics in my games.
yeah, I think it made sense for things to go in this direction for a while because the tech and know-how was finally there, but I feel like it also lead to bigger investments which got stuck, be it because of profit/risk assessment, focus group / feature list design, or even being limited by the new technology which was built with realism in mind.
That being said, there have actually never been as many wack games being made as now. They're just not the hugest productions.
The real answer is that now video games have become real money makers so brands are paying to be included in the video game (gun manufacturers pay to have their guns in realistic shooters and sports franchises pay for the video game development as marketing for the real thing)
Couch co-op games need to be a thing again. Or make more online story driven games that have multiplayer
A way out on Xbox one and PS4 is a couch co-op game that requires two people to play and beat!!
But I agree couch co-op needs to make a return!!
@@turismofoegaming8806 that's one game. Almost every game in the 2000s that had multi-player had local couch co-op. This video is about genres that need to return, I see you on so many comments unhelpfully recommending one very well known game to people who remember an entire console generation worth of games with local multi-player
@@KuueenKumi I was only recommending it because I thought it was a pretty cool game that went against the norm for today..
@@KuueenKumi Whatever you say beard
I love that the car battling games has what I believe is Fear Factory's "Demanufacture" playing in the background, or at least something very similar. Brilliant!
It's the instrumental version from the Carmageddon soundtrack. Which also had instrumental versions of Zero Signal and Body Hammer.
I'll always be thankful to the Mortal Kombat movie for introducing me to FF.
I don’t know if Jak X would count, since Mario kart doesn’t, but man it is by far my favorite racing game ever, but I am biased because I love the jak series, and it does include a death match mode
THE GLORIOUS RETURN!!!!!
Oh man, we need a new car fighting game. I was explaining Twisted Metal to my kids, and realized it’s been so long since one released that I don’t think we even have a system that will play the most recent one anymore.
My dream game is a Twisted Metal reboot by NetherRealm Studios (Mortal Kombat and Injustice)
They better rerelease the older games on newer consoles. Maybe even the Switch and PC for more longevity and access.
Twisted Metal Black is on PS4
@@gbrinkert And the others?
@@gbrinkert sounds like I need to make a purchase.
"Arena" shooters are alive and well: people still play Team Fortress 2 and Quake 3. Nothing better has been made since for some reason.
RTS and TBS also deserve love. HoMM3 have a great surge of popularity in the recent years because its a great game and there is nothing like it. In RTS people a lot of people still play StarCraft2 despite its numerous flaws and abandonment by the devs since no good game was made in this genre since.
Regarding mini-games - missed opportunity to mention Alley Cat.
Certain RTS titles are making a comeback - just look at the recent release of Command & Conquer Remastered. If not that, thriving modding communities have sprung up around genre mainstays (like the aforementioned C&C or Dawn Of War 1) to keep the games alive after their abandonment. TBS games, particularly 4X titles, also seem to have devoted audiences if the popularity of things like Stellaris or the excitement of the up-and-coming Dune: Spice Wars is anything to go by.
Actually, the FMV game "At Dead of Night" that came out not too long ago (Markiplier did a complete playthrough). Was actually really, REALLY good and showed just what they could/can do with FMV if they decide to bring it back. It was much more immersive and engaging than the old style ones with horrible acting and barely any interaction from the player. If you haven't heard of it, I highly recommend giving Markiplier's playthrough a look just to see what it's like. It's really impressive!
*eats large slab of blood*
"Ewww this tastes like blood!"
🤦🏼♂️
I have no idea what she thought it was. Huge block of frozen tomato sauce?
Maybe she thought it was a fruit roll-up?
I mean I thought it was a watermelon slice
Hmm, yes, the blood tastes just like blood.
"Hope it wasn't Chris' blood!"
"I swear Toad I will End you"
Sounds like jane has some unfinished business with Toad in mario party XD
Who doesn't?
Perhaps she actually has a problem with Toad in Mario Strikers...a mildly violent sports game, might I add.
I think musical instruments should be integrated into games… particularly mmos Make an expanded gear set… amps, pedals… cymbals and and kit variety etc… make the programming dynamics so players can even create tunes and be an in game band that tours the open world bars and clubs
Wiimote for the warrior so they can swing a sword
Motion capture for the wizard so they can do magic hand gestures
And a guitar hero controller for the bard
When the Bard class requires key transposition, I'm out.
There was this Chinese mmo (if it could be called that) life after. They had this in game event. They placed this playable baby grand piano at one of the kiosks. I mean, almost every player in that instance swarmed that piano fighting over a chance to play it. Talk about a telling social experiment.
@@wesleythomas7125 lol… some of you are just genius comedians
@@xristosdomini7249 🤦♂️lol smh…
Traditional lightguns require a CRT - a modern version (outside of VR, which tracks lots of things by default) would require external hardware, like on the Wii or Kinect. I think? Or just much better inside-out peripheral tracking!
Wave shooters kick ass in VR. Drop Dead is just House of the Dead. There's a Time Crisis clone on AppLab too.
I thought the same thing as what I started to say to the guy above her posted something about why they did away with it…
Like how the PS one required do you have this thing called the multiAV out which was an additional connector that hooks between your composite in the system that had three additional yellow red and white inputs for the gun to plug into.. I had point blank for the PlayStation one back in the day and it was so fun!!
The beautiful white void returns 😭🙌
Congrats on the heart
@@IamaPERSON Thanks! 😁

Decently-developed lite-gun games would probably thrive well on VR.
VR is certainly a place where those these can thrive. The PSVR aim controller is a lot of fun for gun games like Borderlands, Firewall, Farpoint, etc. Beat Saber and others do virtual versions of peripheral rhythm action games too. But man, I want some new Twisted Metal and NFL Blitz iin my life.
@@TopTierKnees yeah, light guns were finicky and I think what happened is that developers decided motion sensing controls were more versatile and ultimately better.
@Wayne Smith yeah, I remember some movies I saw in the 90s about what film makers imagined video game technology to be in the future. And yeah, it was basically what VR is now.
This may be incorrect, but I thought that Light-gun games only worked with CRT televisions due to how the display outputs and only recently has the technology of modern HDTVs caught up, hence why the genre died out during the switchover to HD gaming.
@@marhawkman303 yeah... Problem is, they're wrong. I'd rather use light guns than those motion sensors
rocksmith 2014 uses an actual electric guitar, and has unlimited add on songs. still playing in 2021
Minigame genre gets revived every time Nintendo decides to bless us
My gran bought me Bassmaster 2021, after I expressed my dream of becoming a DJ
Lol
Mentioning games with FMV and not dropping a clip of " SPACE!" in there, such a missed opportunity
RA3 is still a weak entry in the C&C series though.
Doesnt change the fact that RA3's FMV is wacky and great.
have heard the of The Dead of Night game made around this year
@@michaelandreipalon359 RA3 was amazing you take that back!
RA is still not an FMV game, cinematic scenes between missions does not equal an FMV game.
And yeah RA3 was weak.
A big thing overlooked in light gun games going pfft is when TV went digital. All those nifty light gun games worked on the big, bulky cathode ray tube (CRT) screens, not the flat ones. If you want to enjoy Virtua Cop or Duck Hunt in its original form, you’d better hope and pray Grandma or Grandpa hasn’t thrown out the old Curtis Mathes set yet.
I really miss the good old turn-based (rpg) games. X-com 2 was one of the latest in that genre, but these type of games seem rare these days. Hoping Jagged Alliance 3 will be worth waiting for. A shame the Final Fantasy VII remake is no longer turn-based.
Preach it, Brother! If you don't mind the change in tone, the PS2 game Phantom Brave was an equally engaging take on the turn-based strategy game like XCOM 2 that is WELL worth a look!
Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous has the option to be played in either "real-time with pause" or turn-based mode.
For real! The only reason I won't play the FF7 remake, besides the loony changes made by the KH director, is the awful A-JRPG battle system they've been using since 13. Turn based is magical. Even a hybrid turn based system like that in X-2 would be welcome for me in place of the clumsy and graceless nontactical battle system in place now. Indie games know the way, thankfully, but I do miss big budget games utilizing turn based tactical style combat
I would love to see car combat making a return, I played a lot of Twisted Metal as a kid.
Its kinda pay to win but there's a free to play called Crossout. You build and customize your own cars and either face off other players in a 8v8 arena or team up with players against AI controlled cars in different mission modes.
There's demolition derbies in The Crew 2. I know it's not a whole game of them but they're fun
Have a look at wreckfest! No real weapons on the cars but plenty of demolition to do nonetheless!
Wreckfest just released a carmageddon DLC...Zombies, not pedestrians, though.
Carmaggedon was underrated.
Must feel great to be back in the chair!
If for no other reason than it being unused for over a year meant it was the last cold seat available
I would love it if mech shooters like Armored Core came back. I miss those games so much 😢
Wish MechWarrior Online came to PS4/5, but no, they make excuses for not doing so.
@@RazyrDiarmait I never played those, but if one came to next gen I would be all over it.
@@miquellopez7185 They're, in my opinion, the best mech shooter series, but Armored Core is good also. Used to play MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries on PC and had a lot of fun, but my rig couldn't handle MWO.
@@RazyrDiarmait I imagine on PC that it probably was incredible. I hate computers (and they hate me) so I've never dabbled into PC gaming.
@@miquellopez7185 I stopped PC gaming as soon as Wndows 10.1 came out, as it's riddled with issues, such as random double clicking, among other things. But I used to game on PC and PS3 at the same time. But it was fun either way.
I still remember playing DK64 multiplayer as a kid. The arena shooter game where screen peaking was an actual game mechanic, because the render distance was so short, you couldn't even see each other from more across the map. The render distance was actually a wieldable weapon for stealth and camouflage.
If a new Twisted Metal came out, I’d be a happy man.
Needs to have someone like Calypso from the sequel, he made the cutscenes very entertaining every time he showed up with his vile grin
there was a bunch of twisted metal type games back then, V8 vigilante was 1 & there was something called rogue trip.
i have the last twisted metal game on PS3 but it looked awful.
@@OugaBoogaShockwave v8 and twisted metal were my go to games

car combat needs to come back. So many countless hours playing "Streets of Sim City" on the weekends as a kid.
Contradiction, The Infectious Madnes of Dr. Dekker, and The Shapeshifting Detective are three amazing FMV games
I was waiting for someone to bring up Shapeshifting Detective.
Hard hard hard agree on Dr Dekker. Some good twisty stuff that takes itself seriously enough to be well worth multiple playthroughs. Super recommend for fans of surreal horror/Lovecraftian horror
New video idea: features in games that faded from existence! like the little face in the corner in wolfenstein or that racing/fighting game in this video
Or the “Game Over” screen
@@blanktom6049 game over screens are far from dead
That game is Carmageddon. Also, my pick would be water disguised as lava and acid (just like from the Turok duology).

1: Burnout Revenge Remastered
2 : Take me Home by Ken Ashcorp as a track in said remaster
Midnight Club 😔
Yeah.
@@caro7048 best racing series gone too soon.
I think you meant Burnout: Takedown. Also had the sickest soundtrack. On par with Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2.
@@SlashGriever Takedown also should get a remaster. That said, I can only assume it'd be a 2 for 1 deal if they were remastered (similar to THPS 1+2)
A remaster of Interstate 76 would just be sweet (but they'd make in a reboot-thing, and waste it).
I'd second that comment
Man, I used to play Modern Warfare & World at War competitively on the Wii with a team of really good players. The motion controls were so much better than thumbstick controllers or mouse & keyboard. It was amazing; I just wish Nintendo would have kept the pointer aiming ability on the Switch.
I only really experienced that setup with Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, but my God that was a fantastic game with a great control scheme.
Me: I’ve never been so happy seeing a chair before!
My chair at home: *sad squeaking noises*
🤣🤣🤣
So, a fmv that’s also a car based, lightshooter with an over the top violent take on the world of cricket?
I’m in, but only if Hulk Hogan’s Magic Boat is offered as DLC
Shut up and take my money!
@@biscuitsandgroovy3286 You guessed it!
FMV games are not SO rare nowadays though. "The Shapeshifting Detective" is my favorite, I think. I like "The Bunker" a lot too.
Wales Interactive has TONS of new FMV games and they're all a lot of fun. My favorite is the Infectious Madness of Dr Dekkar which has you in the role of a psychologist trying to figure out which of your patients killed the last guy, all while an eldritch horror slowly corrupts you and them. The gameplay mechanic of asking questions is novel, though sometimes obtuse. It's ok to use a guide if you get stuck!
That sounds really interesting. I have The Shapeshifting Detective, and I love it's creativity and the shapeshifting mechanic.
That Mike was the one to narrate "car combat games" immediatley made me smile. :D
You know I hoped “violent sports game” would make this list. I just didn’t know how to describe it lol. I mean come on the speedball 2 theme song is a BOP.
I mean, Blood Bowl still exists, or rather, Blood Bowl 2 on PC. and is probably the longest lived of these games. Admittedly, it was a tabletop game first, but both the OG chaos edition and Blood bowl 2 both play great.
man I miss the "mutant league" series soooo much.
Deathrow was my favourite of this genre, such a great game that nobody has heard of.
I know Mario Strikers technically isn't quite as violent as most of the games described here, but still, it probably should be considered in the same genre.
Also Mario Strikers really needs to be re-released/remade/have another sequel.
Not really a sport as such but anyone remember combat chess?
Speaking of FMV games, my Step Dad gave me a game called “Phantasmagoria” a while ago which was supposedly one of the earliest FMV games and I actually think it’s pretty fun, but the graphics are so far behind I had to use my Windows Vista laptop instead of my Windows 6 computer. A little… different, but it’s a quite fun point-and-click, slightly cheesy horror game. And it’s pretty good.
Crazy Taxi is another awesome genre (albeit small one), that deserves a come back. Those type of games were awesome!
I agree that light guns should come back. I think I bought everyone of those games for my console. I was so disappointed when I learned the next generation consoles didn't have them.
I bought my Sega Dreamcast with crazy taxi!!!
I currently own it on Xbox one and have all the achievements!!
The problem with Crazy Taxi as a genre is that the entire premise of Crazy Taxi is patented by Sega. Radical Entertainment developed a Simpsons-themed knockoff, The Simpsons: Road Rage, for Fox, and Sega sued Fox over it. They settled out of court, with Fox paying Sega.
"bunny hopping like the floor is mixamotosis" is the best line I've heard in years
Agreed
Light guns died out due to improvement to tvs, the refresh rate of modern tvs is too much for them to handle. Though somebody has come up with a modern work around which basically replaces the light sensor with a camera. There was/is a kickstarter to release it for pc, but hopefully with there being the tech out there now, we could see console versions.
I wouldn’t even say light guns disappeared?! because the PlayStation move the Nintendo Wii they’re basically versions of the same thing or at least they work in a very similar way to where that, it’s good enough-
Light guns worked in most cases by using the scanlines on the TV. Led/lcd/oled don't have them so they just don't work. The other methods are just not as effective really.
@@bionicgeekgrrl don't I know it! Still got my Dreamcast with 2 light guns, but haven't been able to play House of the Dead 2 since we got a (second-hand) flatscreen around 2012-ish...! And yes, we could get an old CRT TV, but those are objectively inferior in EVERY way except for "being able to use a Dreamcast light gun", which just isn't enough reason to actually get one and dedicate space to it...
PSVR with the aim or move controller depending on game is a much better replacement for a light gun. I'd imagine same for VR on PC as well though I haven't played those.
The Sinden light gun guy has specifically said, and even shown off prototype footage of, console adaptors have always been an objective.
I have always been disappointed that Rock Simulators weren’t set up in a way that helped people learn how to play actual instruments, what a missed opportunity 😔
Well yes, but now I can play a plastic Fender Stratocaster like a boss!
Actually, I’ve heard that skills from the drum set simulators translate to the real thing pretty well. After all, it’s just hitting the drum at the right time with the beat.
Doing it well enough to make a living off it? Okay, that’s a whole ‘nother ball o’ wax.
They did inspire some people to take real guitar lessons though, so there's that.
RockSmith did that. It had an interface similar to guitar hero, but you used an actual guitar
It wasnt perfect but I do feel my skills increased exponentially after playing for a while
@@1manwalkingfreakshow Yup! Only thing short is a pedal for the highhat and another crash cymbal and you would've been playing the most common drumset. Biggest issue was that it didnt matter what pressure you hit notes for different sounds but other than that the tracking was accurate
Him:we need more beet games like guitar hero
FNF: hold my non alcoholic beverage
I wanna see Andy on DDR that would be amazing
@The Gaming Meta i think you may be remmebering the kareoke video, that one is on their shorts channel if anyones intrested
Got me shedding a tear, with how much I miss Twisted Metal and want it to come back...
Saaaame, me and my little brother would play for hours playing Twisted Metal 2012
Playing the very first one at 11 years old on the original PlayStation had such a big impact coming from tothe sprite based games and the generation prior!!
And then twisted metal two was amazing although it ditch the first person view… and even twisted metal three while being made by a separate studio 989 studios was a good game also, they were all so fun up until four..
If we're talking FMV games, I've got one that proves you can do wonders with it. An FMV horror game called "At Dead Of Night"
There's only one threat, but it's constantly on your back, genuinely creepy, and extremely tense as the threat walks into your room trying to find you.
There are mysteries to uncover as you explore the environment and figure out what happened to the poor souls trapped in the building. With some point and click style puzzling it out where you combine items you found with statements from NPC's to progress in the story and a brilliant twist at the end that cranks the intensity up to 11, especially since by that point, most players think they've figured out how to deal with the threat.
(I'm being intentionally vague yo not give away any secrets in the chance anyone reading this decides to play it)
It's a fascinating game to play and watch, terrifically terrifying atmosphere, and some grisly tales to tell. If you put an FMV game in the hands of someone who knows what they're doing, it can be absolutely amazing.
I went to Dave and Busters before covid (for the first time in forever) and they had a Halo light gun game on rails that was neat. It was crazy seeing a NEW / modern one that also happened to be Halo (but based off the Halo 5 concept of Spartans / spartan squads)
Facts I played that game too. Even tho that genre of games fits in Dave and Buster, I was surprised they used Halo 5 for it. I kinda assumed it would’ve been based on Halo 4 only because I didn’t expect for them to care enough to make a version with the newer game
Facts I played that game too. Even tho that genre of games fits in Dave and Buster, I was surprised they used Halo 5 for it. I kinda assumed it would’ve been based on Halo 4 only because I didn’t expect for them to care enough to make a version with the newer game
Point and click adventure games! Those were my jam growing up but now there's so little.
i just want a new Monkey Island, is that too much to ask?
There are still quite a few. I'd recommend Unavowed to start with.
I think that the point and click genre is too big to ever really die, but there are definitely sub genres that have replaced classic games and types.
In the pick up/talk to/use X on Y games, we still have Thimbleweed Park and various Telltale Adventures games, but the new ones seem to be focused on making a moral choice or executing a quick time event. We definitely don’t have the classic Sierra and ICOM games where one false move kills your character, and the game mocks your foolishness.
I also haven’t seen much of the isolation/exploration games like the Myst series. Come to think of it, I’ve never seen anything else like Myst at all.
@@niagargoyle Riven? 😀 Though I always preferred Zork: Nemesis.
There are a lot of other shorter old-school point and click adventures from the last few years, particularly from European indie studios. Usually with a heavy Lucasarts influence, but often quite short due to limited budgets.
Daedalic Entertainment has been releasing their Deponia adventure series for several years now, and it’s quite popular.
Y'all ever heard of anka's adventure or escape of rosecliff island? Those games were my childhood
Disco Elysium is kind like a point and click game. Highly recommended.
I think another Vigilante 8 game would be pretty fun. Always digged the 70s setting it had.
Amen, glad to see someone mention that game :) Played my V8 disc to unplayable state
Vigilante 8 > Twisted Metal
Same, both the first and 2nd offense were soo good and fun. And the soundtrack was awesome.
@@MrGrunja yeah, music was great. I used to rock tunes from the 2nd Offence like regular music
I always wanted to remake Interstate 76. Remember that one?
1:42 They live on with the likes of Frets on Fire, Phase Shift and Clone Hero. May be a fan community project, but not dead.
Twisted Metal, Carmageddon, Destruction Derby, Vigilante 8...
Was actually chatting with a friend of mine who is a developer. We tossed around the idea of a new rockband style game.... with multiplayer capabilities (distance is no issue anymore).... VR capabilities (see everything from the stage)... Cross platform and PC made.. and for modern streamers a spectator view mode and a battle of the bands mode where people can vote for a winner like in America's got talent, or boo and cheer and such. not to mention the lovely modern mods/add songs ability like in beatsaber. Heck if enough people comment and like this maybe I'll even fund the development.
"Guitar Hero" genre peaked with Rocksmith. Can't get more real than a real guitar (and bass guitar). With modding on PC you get unlimited songs. It still needs drums and vocals tho.
I think the reason it's wasn't mentioned is that it's more of a learning aid than a full on game. I still find it fun as a game tho as I can play. Still easier than some of the bloody finger contorsion you had to do on afew songs in GH
Still playing it to this day.
I have somewhat of a backwards way of seeing this. I have been playing guitar, bass, and drums for over 20 years. Guitar hero and rock band are great because they are more gamey and fun. If I wanted to play a real guitar, I would just learn the actual song on my real gear.
@@rdavis787 EXACTLY!!
it seems like fmv has been making a (slow, indie) comeback in the last few years! i'd definitely encourage any enthusiasts to check out 'telling lies' or any of the d'avekki games. so much glorious weirdness, and occasionally some genuine quality storytelling!
also welcome back to the studio, you guys 😊
The FMV game that I remember best was Wing Commander III, would love to see a modern take on the Wing Commander games ^^; though I guess those were kinda part FMV, part Space Sim, and I would love to see some new space simulator games that are actually good and single player, because I hate PvP.
I'd also like to mention Not For Broadcast, an FMV game that I would recommend.
I would love to see a car combat game based on Steve Jackson's Car Wars. Have co-op multiplayer where you have driver's and gunners able to work together in cars built to include a gunner, for example.
Level your way up from a rustbucket Killer Kart all the way to a Gundam that shoots exploding beards made out of bees that are on fire
I remember giving my uncle my Rock Band, along with the guitar and drum kit for it, for Madden 08
Scott wozniac that you?
"I'll just end up in DanceDanceRevolution and nobody wants to see that"
>SuperNOVA gameplay
Well, to be fair, it's a shame DDR V is a terrible game.
Pump it up was my favorite.
I'm not sure the minigame compilation genre is entirely dead, although it probably seen better days. Still had a reasonable amount of party fun with the likes of "What the golf" and "Move or Die", for instance. Not a completely random selection of minigames, but still, the core mechanic of figuring out what you are supposed to do unitl somebody accidentally wins is there
Beetle Adventure Racing had an amazing Battle Mode, I completely forgot about it until playing it with a friend a couple years ago....ended up being the most fun I'd had with a game in years. We definitely need more stuff like that.
Dude beetle adventure racing was one of my most favorite and beloved N64 games!!
Right there beside San Francisco rush!!
What's interesting about the Guitar Hero-style rhythm action game (not including prior arcade releases like Beatmania or Guitar Freaks) is that it started life as something a bit more abstract (like Frequency and Amplitude in the case of Harmonix, which used notes scrolling towards you like in Guitar Hero). Marketers specifically told Harmonix that the only way this information would make sense to consumers was with some kind of bespoke peripheral - thus, much like the humble plastic dance mat before it, the plug-in plastic guitar controller was brought out of the arcades and into the home.
After the collapse of the genre in the early 2010s (and before the mid-2010s comeback of Rock Band 4 and the never-mentioned Guitar Hero Live), independently-developed rhythm games appear to have mostly gone back to the more abstract user interfaces so that they can be more easily played with keyboards or controllers - just look at A Dance Of Ice And Fire, which sees you controlling two spheres which orbit each other, and which you must use to pseudo-platform your way through songs.
Adjacent to "vehicular combat", another Split/Second would be some fun
I second this motion.
To this day I will never forgive Disney for closing down Black Rock Studios.
THAT WAS MY JAM!!!!!!!!!!
Favorite racing game in history, HANDS DOWN!!
and also another Blur Title
Ah, yes. Carmageddon and Twisted metal. My favorites.
You might enjoy Crossout, TheRussianBadger described it as Mad Max meets Minecraft/Mad Max with Spiders. Build your own car/tank/whatever and have fun.
@@thetalantonx
I’ll take a look.
@@thetalantonx Sounds neat.
@@thetalantonx Heh. Crossout. AKA Lego car combat.
@@RazyrDiarmait Yep, exactly! I played way too much of it so I'm on a break from it right now, but as you likely know it's stupidly fun.
Call of Duty “painstakingly recreating every rivet on an officially licensed assault rifle”? Jane is clearly not a fan ofJonathan Ferguson, curator of firearms and artillery at the Royal Armouries Museum.
11:30-13:25 NO MENTION OF SLUGFEST? Getting into brawls was the best part of that baseball game! Getting “hot” had that player literally ON FIRE in the batter’s box, playing as the Detroit tigers let you player AS TIGERS! Even had Matadors, and the ability to make QUITE the home plate collision with a FLYING KICK TO THE CATCHER’S FACE!
Why I'm here : partly the games
Why I'm really here : for all the puns
That "i swear toad, I will end you" was so genuine
I really miss playing Rock Band drums.
My kit broke and it's nigh impossible to find replacement parts.
What I'd give for a quality full rubberized drum kit.
Edit: For a better guitar experience, check out Rocksmith. Probably the pinnacle of "rhythm" games on the market.
Mikes face at the end was like they might imprison his entire family for that small mistake.
Speaking of DDR, someone has to bring back the dance pad. We haven't had a console release since 2010.
Andamiro needs to release Pump It Up on a new system.
"No no, that would be wrong"
Yeah sure, like that ever stops them
Or at least stops Mike
I think out of all of those Car Combat takes the cake for me AND you didn't even mention the best one of the bunch (imo) Vigilante 8 and Vigilante 8 - 2nd offence. That was basically an "Arena" Car combat game with "environmental" interactions as well as ability to upgrade cars ( even visually ) and each weapon even had "secret" combos to shoot new "type". God when I first found out you could do interesting combos I wanted to keep playing forever.
With the new Anthony Mackie led Twisted Metal series coming to Peacock, I have a tiny (very tiny) flame of hope that we can see a comeback to the game series itself. It had some bizarre endings, enjoyable combat, and until Black screwed it up, a great control scheme~
Twisted Metal was so fun, I wish they could bring that back for sure
Yeah. You might want to kill for a compilation rerelease in modern consoles and the PC.
@@michaelandreipalon359 Agreed.
I really enjoyed Vigilante 8 and Destruction Derby on the N64.
Isn't Vigilante 8 out for PC?
Sorry: that's "Interstate '76". Same same?..
don't forget "rogue trip" on psx, it's like v8 & TM
Hell, I still play Unreal Tournament with bots. They're not the smartest, but it's still really fun. Tons of creative maps out there. Nothing will match the sheer chaos & nostalgia of it though.
Same. They can still kick my arse with auto-adjust difficulty.
"There's no comicallly violent sports games"
Looks at Blood Bowl.
"Guess you don't exist."
I resent the implication that I ever enjoyed a peripheral rhythm action game. Release Tudor-era lutenist hero or gtfo.
they had that in Fable 2 and 3...
Jim Carrey’s Lyre Lyre
FMV games could actually work really well with modern tech, just look at how well Bandersnatch did on netflix, and that wasn't far off being one
There kinda still around just not well promoted. Games like The Bunker or Late Shift just to name a few that you can find on the PS4/5
Though Twisted Metal was what made the genre huge in the late ‘90’s, Combat Cars for the Sega Genesis in 1994 was what arguably kickstarted the vehicle combat genre in the first place. It has a lot of what made Twisted Metal unique.
There actually is a newer video clip horror puzzle game that is also a throwback to the 7th guest. Its called the 13th doll in 2019. If you are a fan of the original check it out.
