Probably nothing because the divers for the marina are down there most of the day replacing and fixing mooring lines and so on.
Gorgeous as these yachts are, the Bayesian has put me off forever 😂
Unless you've got at least $100 million I don't think you have to worry. I've been on cruise ships (reluctantly) and I own a sailboat and I've crossed the Pacific in a 12m catamaran, four of us. I like this channel, but when I see these super yachts... they just look like cruise ships to me. Cruise ships are like malls 'near the ocean, but not actually in it', and all the stores are closed. So if you don't like drinking, overeating or stage shows.... incredibly boring. Time on land is 8 hours, but actually about 5 because you have to get off the boat, and then get back on with enough time if the taxi breaks down the ship doesn't leave without you.
The Bayesian is looking like, people who don't do safety drills, a design with some problems - the sliding door and problem multipliers, that incredible tall mast and retracted keel. My 46' (14m) sailboat would've just leaned over and popped right back up. (The catamaran we crossed the Pacific in... that would've flipped like a pancake. But storm? I'd have been up watching it. Even flipped it wouldn't have sunk. I've seen a storm on the Mediterranean, pretty intense.
Some of the key reasons I became a sailor when I did is safety. There is now excellent weather reports. No one ever has to be in the middle of a typhoon, hurricane or major storm. You can get information in enough time that you can get out to the edge. A little rough, no risk. Communications: Starlink. I brought mine and we had full internet 400 miles from land and any other humans. The astronauts on the Space Station were the closest other people.
These super yachts? It's like going to a car show and it's all buses.

What size are the tender boats? I was disappointed to see a very average boat aboard one of these yachts. I build 52' powerboats capable of 75 knots in luxury with offshore stability.
Ours would look so much better aboard a yacht than what I saw in this video.

That lifeboat rule about both sides came about after the Andrea Doria sinking. She began to severely list almost immediately rendering her lifeboats on one side inoperable.

I worked at the Sydney International Boat Show for a few years in the early eighties, selling electronics, well before the Monaco show started, but I had no idea anything could grow to be this big. This is unbelievable, I'm not sure I could afford a coffee at this joint. Thanks for taking us along, it has been a real eye opener. But I think I'm going to have to stick with my 5M Mustang for now, maybe I could tow my guests behind me in an inflatable dingy and call it my support vessel.🤣
Kismet is gorgeous, and I love a navy hull, but oi, I always pity the crew keeping it clean.

Sigh... There's never enough time at a boat show. The 'Sport Fishing' Yacht is a joke. Money will never buy sensibility nevertheless, if the $$$ are on the table, the builders really don't care.
Sports fishing yachts make a statement because they're not sensible.

It's just a theme. Sport fishing is as good as any other.
Thanks for sharing! I really hope to get some video/pictures from the flybridge deck... I had a lot of fun working for Royal Huisman on Special One, specifically in 2 main area's outdoor helm/control stations (flybridge deck and observation deck, the upper two levels) and a lot of the equipment/systems of the fishcockpit. The last one is quite easy to see in video's but those helms/control stations I have not seen finished yet.
I'll keep my fingers crossed that someone gets a better view on these decks and is able to share it!
I was expecting a massive deity of a fighting armchair but it looks like the same size as a normal sportfisher's
@@visionist7 Yep, person sitting in it doesn't grow with the size of the yacht after all. :) all features and gadgets are hidden from sight but are easily reachable/usable while fishing.
Sailing just means you're repairing the boat in exotic places. 🇨🇦

Are there ever any multi-hulls at shows like the one you are at? I have vertigo so I have never been on a boat of any sort but think they look good. Also, why the trend of the front of the
boat (bow?) being vertical as opposed to angled?
The straight stem increases the waterline length relative to the overall length, allowing a higher hull speed.
To calculate the hull (cruising) speed of a full displacement yacht, simply work out the square root of the waterline length, and then multiply that by 1.34 to get the maximum speed. So a 100 foot waterline length gives you a 10 knot efficient cruise and a 13.4 knot maximum speed.
Planing hulls can ride their own bow wave and go much much faster, but need a lot, lot more power to do so, and they aren't as comfortable when moored (which is where most yachts spend 90% of their lives) as the same hull shape designed to ride its own bow wave catches any other wave, too. Semi displacement yachts are a mix of the two types, and very popular but need even more energy than a planing yacht to go anywhere near as fast.
Edit: planing hulls with a "deep vee" shaped hull can be relatively comfortable at high speed as the hull can bite down into the water with less resistance after hitting each wave.

This was a great video! Very interesting and informative. It was eerie looking at the Perini Navi...can't help but think the Bayesian tragedy being the gargantuan elephant in the room. Anyway that hydration station was funny! I'd be filling up too, lol! Plus, the coffee bit is spot on! We coffee snobs gotta maintain our standards! 😉

I'm curious as to why the vents on the Bayesian are situated so low. Considering that it heels on it's side when it sails it seems that water could pour in during a normal sailing day.

I guess it only needs one vent open at a time so if it's heeling the one on that side would be closed, remember automatic

Im curious, these days do you get a ticket/entry to the show because of your work on super yachts, or as a press pass because of the channel? Wondering which takes precedence - I guess press pass, so it allows you to film and report more extensively/freely?

Existing at the top of car audio... I am surprised non of these ultra rich have a killer sound system. Everyone in Monaco and several kms. beyond would know me, if I turned it on.
Well I have some good news, "Special One" (20:45) is very well outfitted. high quality speakers and amps everywhere on the ship (if you look closely you can see speakers everywhere in the ceilings, walls etc.). And the cherry on top can be found up front.
@@zapcos80 Not sure what you’re on, there is a whole industry that caters to yacht audio systems 🤷 and in regard to your second point, you’d immediately be put in jail and your car would be impounded. Police here don’t dance around and neither do the courts, though they are a little softer on residents. Every summer people come here to try - and fail.
@@Mazeboxx at the same time you can get away with parking in the marina car park and amazingly it's completely free. Just gotta luck-out finding a space like we did. A LaFerrari on one side, a Kahn Range Rover on the other (whose driver assured us parking was free) and our entry level old A class in the middle 😅
@@visionist7 There are two in Port Hercule, one along Kennedy and another one on Jules Soccal, not sure which one you were on, but good on you for finding it. Once the yacht show finishes on Sunday and they clean up, you can also park along the swimming pool all the way up to Rascasse. There are a lot of normal people here, who drive completely normal cars. So the pairing you describe you do see in a number of parking garages. Though, most people here actually walk. As you saw, parking is painful.
I just see them all in terms of how many seconds or minutes to sink compared to the Bayesian's 90 seconds...and how millionaires are lost and trapped to spend spend spend and get sucked into a funnel for expensive trivia...
Bayesian was a freak, extreme weather event which seems to have been lost on many. Like a sink hole, or an earth quake in Italy or volcano in Pompeii.

Like the smell of coffee, don't like coffee, unless it has enough whisky in it. Guess my standards mean i'll be searching for the Under 3M Self-propelled Yacht channel. I hear they are doing wonderful designs with oars these days!
One thing that I've been trying to find is the type and layout of anemometers on the Bayesian. No luck, so it'd be interesting to know what the Fidelis has. The same builder, so perhaps it has a similar configuration? Unfortunately, modern anemometers don't advertise themselves in the same way that "cup and vane" instruments do, so it may not be obvious from just looking at the masts. Assuming Bayesian had multiple anemometers from deck level to the tip of the mast, if the data has been stored, it should be very helpful to the enquiry in determining the forces on the mast. In a microburst scenario (with abrupt changes in wind velocity, i.e. both direction and speed with height) it may have encouraged a tilt.🤔
