In the book, they don't end up together! That "5 years later" is not in the book, soooo happy they changed it!! But the book explain more about why Olli is the way he is and it's much worst when the relationship went public, and also the book is more explicit (if you know what I mean 😏)
I kept seeing people ask if it ended the same way as the end of the book.
So happy to hear the movie has a better ending because tbh we would have been LIVID

@PettyPumpkins I read the book and i LOVED it but my god the end DESTROYED ME!!! I was so angry, it really felt like somebody stabbed me in the heart and twisted it around. The book is phenomenal but i hate the ending, i was waiting months for the release of the movie and i am beyond happy the movie ending is different and i finally got my happily ever after.
Book is well worth a read, but just prepare for the ending with tissues and comfort food and whatever makes ya feel better.

One of the things I find really interesting about the movie is all of the little hidden messages and sub-text that are in it. Two examples: Through most of the movie, we see Hayes writing the song "Dance Before we Walk," which is supposed to be his first solo song, as he's beginning to move away from August Moon. If you notice the lyrics, they reflect this ("Off the moon and I'm hittin' the ground like a rocket"). He's literally getting off August Moon and doing a solo. The line "Took a shot and I'm puttin' it right in the pocket," is a reference to his "taking a shot" by going solo and he's hoping to "pocket" a solo career. After all, if he's 24 now and he auditioned at 14, that means that August Moon is nearly 10 years old, which is kind of "long in the tooth" for a boyband, so I don't think he expects it to last much longer. The second little example I want to bring up is when Daniel knocks on the door and Hayes answers it. As Daniel looks into the house, having just been dumped by the woman he dumped Solène for, he sees Hayse, shirtless, walking toward him, putting on a shirt. This is a stark reminder that he dumped a woman that a 24-year-old pop star finds attractive. So, he has to see this young stud who's bedding his ex-wife coming to answer the door. Think you messed up, Daniel? But the movie is full of little things like this that I found so interesting, and the book has even more (though fair warning on the book, it's great until the end, but the ending is terrible, so stick with the movie ending).
Check out the interviews with Savan Kotecha, who produced the music and wanted to give August Moon a proper musical storyline. They are great, and really explain the process; as well as being full of praise for Galitzine.

My thoughts on the 5 years is Hayes spends those years growing into the man he will be beyond the regimented world of the boy band from age 14. She gave him the courage to develop his talent solo and she thought it was over forever, he always knew he would come for her in 5 years.

I didn't had it (and it would have been Backstreet Boys) but as a bisexual, I feel like more than watching a movie, I stared in wonderment at their faces for two hours straight, while partially aware of a story happening. Like, I had to concentrate to engage with it; truly two of the most insanely beautiful people on the planet.
Not gonna lie, Mr. Galitzine one is one lucky guy. As a Bisexual woman…I’m jealous. The lucky mother effer got to kiss Annie Hathaway.

I thought the exact same thing but as a parent I 100% got why she had to do that. I would’ve not been okay if it didn’t end happy….but agree not quite as happy as I wanted.
Agreed not quite as happy as i wanted either but at least it's better than the book ending, cos to me it's devastatingly sad 😭
You might call it bittersweet perfection as the film offers hope and reward for their earlier self sacrifice for Izzy's sake, whereas the book ending offers nothing but a harsh closure that is more than cruel after the build up to it.

You both have such genuine appreciation for great storytelling and appreciation for not just a "love story" but for love in real life. There are a couple of scenes in the book where he does give off submissive vibes so... There's that.... Like one of the first times they fuck he only pleasures her...and he's " too tired" to get himself off or have her get him off.... That's some fucking submissive behavior, Hayes.. Jesus Christ 👀 especially since he's meant to be 20, in the book.
Izzy didnt sign up for this so Solen can't just be like who cares. It makes sense to me. Also her daughter asked to go to the dad's bc she didnt wanna deal w the paparazzi outside their house
At Nick's audition, he was to bring a song to use to convince Annie to dance with him. He chose Always Alright by Alabama Shakes, which worked great, but they also did it to Dance Hall Days.

Thank you Anne Hathaway for staring in this movie and playing the love interest of the adorable and sexy baby blue eyed Nicholas Galitzine. And helping me to no longer feel guilty for having serious lusty cougar feelings for Nicholas ever since I first saw him. Cause seriously, I'll be 40 in 3 years. And I honestly didn't expect him to have a on sceen love in her 40's. But hey, they look great together.

I love this story. I saw two people falling for each other. Their age difference was totally irrelevant to me!!
Alas, most of the general public will always be.....very narrow-minded! The question is, why?
Many women going out with younger men are usually crucified mainly by other women!!
Many younger men in love with older interesting women are also... mocked endlessly.
I don't think people will ever learn to mind their own business.
They have got to do number 2. I loved it. The music is outstanding. Ann is always real and totally natural. Their chemistry is phenomenal. Nick is an old soul. He is so versatile. His future shall fly to unlimited leaps.
I liked the movie, but it definitely has a very different feel to the book. In the book, he's the one who makes a point to follow her to art events, rather than her going on tour with the band. He tries to learn more about art. It's a really important part of her story that her ex-husband never showed an interest in her work, whereas Hayes tries to understand and appreciate her passion. That’s how she moves from seeing their relationship as just a fling, to falling in love with him. He also fucks things up several times by doing things like hauling her out of an important art show, and that highlights their different levels of emotional maturity.
I liked the film too, but I think it would be better if they hadn't sacrificed this part of the story. Now we just get "two beautiful people fall in love because reasons". It would've been so easy to just include a little scene where he walks past a piece of art and correctly identifies the artist, to show us (and her) how much effort he's putting in.
It's a fun movie, but it's just missing a bit of the depth that would've made it a great movie.
I wasn't going to watch this, but then i saw you guys did a reaction so I made time for it tonight. Very sweet, enjoyed both of them in this so much, but I am so glad you were both furious about the 5 year time jump. I already saw that it wasn't even in the book, so I'm glad they at least did that much for us, but I was screaming at my TV there for a good 5 minutes. I understand her concerns about her daughter and needing to put her first. Ok, very valid, HOWEVER...why did we have not only a scene with Izzy telling her she was fine with her dating him and pointing out the hypocrisy of the press, but we also had the pow wow of Izzy & her friends all teaming up to ignore the haters because they were going to be strong and get through it. Cut to the very next scene (I'm sure the timeline was consolidated, but that hurts the final cut here) and it makes it look like Izzy had a breakdown after one day. Yes, teenagers can be the worst, but at no point did it cut back to Izzy finding out that her mom dumped him AGAIN just to protect her and have her say woah, hey, yeah what happened sucked but you still deserve to be with the person you love. Especially once she went away to school??? No.

i watched a couple of book youtubers really making a big deal out of nothing. they said the book and this movie is really about grooming a young guy into having sexual relations with her. it's so ridiculous. it's not like the character was below 18....he was 24, a grown ass man.
And he pointed out, it wasn't as if it was the first time he had had sex, or even with an older woman. No grooming going on, just Woke reaction.

So what I'm hearing is...... DON'T READ THE BOOK😂!Yeah...... Imma skip it. Who wants to be sad after watching a good ole throwback to the early 2000s romantic dramedy I guess? It's not really a rom-com. This hellish world is sad enough! Give me the 40 year old single mom who this could ONLY happen to in Hollywoodland.

Unfortunately, I have to say that it was a complete disappointment. If you haven't read the book, you can accept the movie as a soap opera romance movie with a happy ending, but it was the most terrible adaptation that could be made from the book!
Acting without any emotion to grab your feelings! the most important sentences and scenes of the book were removed. after Solen resisted several times, And rejecting Hayes' invitation, she agrees to meet him at the hotel restaurant. but in the movie Solen tells him "let's go to my house, I'll make you a sandwich"!!! Whatt????!!!!!
In the last scene of the book, I cried a lot! But in movie, Hayes says to her, "Don't you want to fight for us?" And leave! that's it???!!!!
The role of her daughter is very weak and the worst thing in this romantic comedy movie was the ending! They see each other again after five years!
You know, I really like and looking forward to watch movies that made from books and novels. But this one..
